Mack Brown's Monster Day Leads to Comfortable Gator Win
    Florida
Another week another SEC opponent as Florida looked to win their second consecutive SEC game in a row as they played host to Kentucky. The first quarter was a defensive affair as both teams were only able to put up a field goal each as the first quarter ended in a 3-3 tie.
The second quarter saw the Gators explode in terms of points scored. After Kentucky tied the game in the 1st quarter off a field goal with time expiring, they kicked it off to start the 2nd quarter. That's when the Mack Brown show started as he took that kickoff back 105 yards back for the score. 3 minutes later Terrell Carr would throw his only touchdown of the day as he found Adrian Coxson for a 57 yard score as the Kentucky defense sold out against the run and they were burned. Mack Brown was able to add a couple more touchdowns through the ground, from 11 and 1 yard out, to close the half with the Gators up comfortably, 31-3.
With the big lead the Gators decided to keep the ball on the ground for the most part in the 2nd quarter, but were still able to add to their lead in the 4th quarter as Mack Brown stepped in for a tired Marcus Martin to score his 4th touchdown of the day from 5 yards out. The Florida defense was able to step up and stop Kentucky cold, limiting them to 111 yards through the air (46 of those coming on 1 play) and giving up a mind boggling .68 yards per run on 19 attempts. The engine that is Florida seems to be churning at the moment, and the defense is playing lights out, giving up less than 7 points a game (26 points allowed in 4 games). The defense has allowed for some of the "weaker" spots on the team to go unnoticed by others, but Coach Zikry definitely knows that some things still need to be worked on if this team is to be considered one of the best in the SEC.
    Florida Player Stats:
QB Terrel Carr: 5-13, 96 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
HB Mack Brown: 27 rush attempts, 213 yards, 3 TDs
WR Adrian Coxson: 2 catches, 70 yards, 1 TD.

#20 Mississippi State Shocks #2 LSU, Wins 31-27

After an early season defeat to LSU last year, coach nrg_qbz and his MSU Bulldogs were looking to redeem themselves in front of a sell-out home crowd. The first quarter was a back and forth affair, as MSU mimicked everything that LSU did. After forcing the Tigers to punt, the Bulldogs did the same. After forcing a fumble by the Tigers, the Bulldogs lost the ball on a fumble as well. The only difference in the first quarter was that LSU was able to punch the ball into the endzone.

Trailing 0-7, MSU striked back on the first play of the second quarter on a 28-yard TD catch by WR Malcolm Johnson. After multiple punts being exchanged, the Bulldogs found themselves in FG range with less then a minute to go. Amazingly, the kicker hooked it left as the stunned crowd looked on. "That was unacceptable. What was that, a 10 yard kick?," said a bewildered coach nrg_qbz. LSU would move the ball down the field quickly to a kick a fg and would head to halftime up 10-7. "Coach really called us out at the half," said HB Casey McCall. "A lot of guys were patting themselves on the back that we were still in the game. Coached was wondering why we weren't ahead."

After MSU tied up the game with a fg, the LSU Tigers finally capitalized on their longest play of the game. TE Travis Dickson shrugged off a few tacklers and rumbled 73 yards for the TD. LSU would lead 17-10 heading into the final quarter.

Once again MSU found a way to strike early at the beginning of the quarter, this time with WR Ryan Elliott on a 7-yard TD catch in the 4th quarter. Just when it looked like the Bulldogs were turning the corner, they ended up fumbling the ball on back to back possessions. The LSU Tigers would make them pay dearly by scoring on a TD and a FG off of those turnovers. "We were sloppy and perhaps playing a little bit tentative," said QB Daniel Stegall. Down 17-27 with three minutes remaining, Steegal directed a quick scoring drive to cut the deficit down to 24-27. After kicking off the ball to LSU, the Bulldogs forced the Tigers to a 3rd and 3 situation. LSU ran an option that would have resulted in a big gain, but the Bulldogs closed in perfectly and stuffed the opposition before any damage could be done. "That could be the play of the game, no doubt," said coach nrg_qbz. "We had no timeouts left after that down. We really needed that."

With the ball on their own 37 and 1 minute left on the clock, backup qb Daniel Stegall would lead the drive of his life. On his very first throw, he threw a 53-yard bomb to his top WR Michael Carr, whom made an incredible over the shoulder catch in stride. On the LSU 11 yard line at this point, Stegall would throw an 11-yard dart to Malcom Johnson that sent the Bulldog faithfuls into a frenzy. LSU would throw 4 straight incompletions as the Bulldogs did the improbable and giving college football its first upset of the season.

Gameball goes to QB Daniel Stegall. Starting QB Tyler Russell had 12 TD's vs 1INT and was leading the nation in passing before he went down last week. Stegall stepped into a pressure-packed situation and threw for 416 yards and had 4TD's vs 1INT. More incredibly was the fact that Stegall remained poised despite 11 drops by his wide receivers. That's right...11. In addition, the Bulldogs had a total of four turnovers (1 int, 3 fumbles) resulting in 17 LSU points. Come to think of it, the MSU defense was pretty stout!

The game was much closer then the score indicated as UTEP scored 27 points in last 1/3 of the game including an interception that was returned 101 yards for a score by the second team defense with just :13 left in the game. UTEP improves to 2-2 (2-0) and will need to continue to play at a high level as they eye their first C-USA appearance under coach Chaotic.

Nice win for the program. It looks like both their qbs were horrible! 0% conversions on third downs for you?! Did you never get to 3rd down or did you never convert?

I didn't convert a 3rd down, it was one of those games that felt like I could do whatever I wanted to, and then next thing I know it's third down, and my qb is throwing the ball ten yards passed my qb, I definetly have some issues on offense.

When I played ASU last week they gave me a good game and their QB played good. He wasn't much of a passer but he was a good runner.

Lobos 42 San Diego State Aztecs 21

In what started as a tight defensive battle, New Mexico wouldblow the game wide open in the 3rd quarter to cruise to a victory against San Diego State. Game would go into the half tied at 14, the Lobos would get the ball first in the second half, drive down the field, Lobo QB Darian Godfrey would hit WR Josh Ford across the middle for a 27yd strike, to put the Lobos ahead 21-14. The Aztecs would have an answer driving 75 yards in their ensuing drive, but Aztec HB Muema would be stripped by LB Mike Black, the ball would be pick up by FS Derel Caro and returned 95 yards for the score. The Aztecs would not get close again, Godfrey would throw for another score as the third quarter ended, and would be taken out the game for the final 7 minutes. The victory improves the Lobos to 5-0 as they march to be the first non-AQ team to play for a national championship.
