QB Controversy in Athens, Bobcats Roll

Ohio traveled to Oxford this weekend for the battle of the bricks. Turnovers plagued both teams, but for Ohio it was freshman QB Mike Smith that threw three picks and had one fumble. Ohio was able to pull of a win over rival Miami-Ohio but will be looking at starting a new QB this coming Saturday as Ohio plays host to Akron. Poor play by the Bobcats however did not affect the outcome of this game as Ohio rolled 45-26 led by sophomore RB Jermaine Davis who had 139 yards on 19 touches with 4 TD's for the Bobcats.

Statement from the head coach: "I'm not sure what is going on at the QB position we will assess the situation this week in practice and we may be making some changes but for now Smith is still QB 1."

Ohio have been relying on Davis when their passing game isn't clicking but he can't carry this team. Ohio has two other options at the QB position in senior QB Greg Windham and sophomore QB Joe Haynes, Haynes is more mobile than Smith or Windham and fits Browns offense the best, Haynes may serve almost as an interim QB until Brown can sign a stellar mobile QB that his offense needs.

Ohio improves to 3-1 and 1-0 in MAC play. Ohio will host Akron next Saturday as they push for another MAC title.

    Until next time, Go Cats!

    Utah Stuns Arizona
    Ute's win 40-13

Salt Lake City, UT- Utah was given their first chance to rebound from a loss under their new coach, and they came out with their hair on fire. Utah gained more yards on the ground than Arizona's high powered offense put up total and for the second time this season had 3 runners top the 100 yard mark.

Utah is still having trouble getting the passing game to work consistently, but their success on the ground is more than making up for it. Brian Cox struggled again in the redzone throwing 2 interceptions in the end zone. The first interception happened at the end of the first half with Utah running the 2 minute drill. The left slot WR took off on a streak, and broke open, but Cox floated the ball a little too much and the 6'7" WR got out jumped by Arizona's 5'10" safety. The second interception was a poor read, and an even worse throw.

Utah's defense was spectacular and played the best game they have all season. Arizona was held under 300 yards and finshed with 259 total, and only 42 yards rushing on 28 attempts.

The Mean Green played an excellent all around game as the defense pitched a shutout. The defense recorded 9 sacks including 2 from DE T. Beanum. On offense it was a good balance of run and pass as 4 players scored on the ground and 2 through the air. NT scored 35 in the 1st half including 28 in the 2nd Qtr. Here's what Coach Lump Lump had to say after the game " This is the type of game we like to play everybody doing their job and it was a total team effort. We don't worry about who makes the plays as long as somebody makes it. This is an good win for our program."
