Cal escapes with a victory on the road.

A week after being held down and forced to eat a fecal sandwich by UCLA, Cal looked to cleanse its palate against a weak WSU team. It wasn't pretty, the Bears will take the win.

QB Allan Bridegeford, perhaps still shell-schocked from last week, was wildly inaccurate. But HB Dasarte Yarnway hoisted the team on his back and carried them to victory. Yarnway finished the day with 19 carries for 141 yards and a TD.

    Cal hosts Washington next week.

    Lobos 35 Utah Utes 17

The Lobos passing game lit up the Utah Ute defense in what turn out to be a no contest in Albuquerque. Utah had no answer for Lobo QB Darian Godfrey as he threw for 388yds and 3tds, Lobo WR Myles Daughtry was the recipient of most of the throws catching 13 balls for 196yds and two scores. The Lobos defense would be in control of the game throughout holding the Utah offense to just 17 points, 7 second half points. Next week, the Lobos welcome the Wyoming Cowboys to Albuquerque.

    Lobo Game Stats
    D. Godfrey 26-37 388yds 3tds, 4car 11yds 1td
    M. Daughtry 13rec 196yds 2tds

Florida Sends a Message, Blasting #9 LSU in Baton Rouge 41-19
After last week's 10-3 win over Ole Miss, Florida came into this game wanting to prove that they were indeed a top 5 team in the nation, and what better way to do that than to go on the road to face a top 10 team in LSU. The first quarter saw LSU drive down the field twice, but were forced to settle for two FGs, and those sandwiched a 70 yard touchdown run by Mack Brown as Florida took a 7-6 lead after 1 quarter.
The second quarter is when Florida took a commanding lead, scoring 24 unanswered points before LSU added two field goals late. Terrel Carr hooked up with Andre Dubose for a 19 yard score, before Cody Riggs returned a 76 yard interception for a touchdown, and that was followed by a fumble return for a touchdown off the first play of LSU's next drive by SS Matt Elam. William Hughes added a 36 yard field goal for the Gators as they took a 31-6 lead with 2:25 left in the half. LSU would add two field goals, one of their ensuing drive from 25 yards out, and another following an interception by Carr, allowing LSU to get another field goal, this one from 28 yards out, as Florida took the 31-12 lead into halftime.
After Mack Brown got injured early in the 3rd (he's out for 4 weeks, really putting a dent in Florida's SEC title hopes) James Franklin stepped in and scored on a 8 yard run in the 3rd to put Florida up 38-12. This is when Coach Zikry decided to bring in the 2nd string, much to the disappointment of the Florida defense who were working on their 3rd straight game not allowing a touchdown, but with bigger fish to fry later on, Zikry could not risk an injury with the game in hand, so in came the 2nd string. After William Hughes added a 34yard field goal, LSU were indeed able to score a touchdown, as Nicholas Pace hit his wide receiver, Kadron Boone on a drag route, and some piss-poor attempts at tackling by the Florida defense allowed Boone to score on a 64 yard catch and run. That would be all the scoring in this one as Florida left Baton Rouge with a 41-19 win.

WR Andre Dubose: 2 catches, 44 yards, 1 TD

SS Matt Elam: 6 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery

    MSU Blasts UAB, Wins 56-6

With their star QB sidelined for another two weeks, the Mississippi State Bulldogs continue to roll on against all-comers. This week, the UAB Blazers had their first taste of SEC darkhorse MSU Bulldogs. With QB Stegall slinging the rock all over the field and HB Casey McCall plowing through the offensive line, the Blazers had no answer as they fell behind 0-34 at the half. Senior WR Michael Carr finished the game with 7 catches for 174 yards and three TD's, all of them being in the first half. "Me and the QB was just playing pitch and catch out there man," said Carr. "It was fun, no doubt." The second half was more of the same for UAB on offense, which meant numerous punts, this time against the 2nd teamers. "I thought our second stringers came in with the same intensity as our first stringers," said coach nrg_qbz. "It was great to see our backups in action and to get them some more playing time."

One of the backup players that stood out was RB Nick Griffin. He ran 17 times for 125 yards and two tds. "Nick was just doing what he does in practice, which was making guys miss," said RB McCall. "Once he is out in the open, it's over for the other team." The MSU faithfuls even had a chance to see Brett Favre's son, Dylan, in action. He completed 2 of 4 passes for 30 yards.

Averaging 49 points a game while giving up an average of 17 points, the MSU Bulldogs are cruising in the early going. They have shown that last year's rise was not a fluke, and that they are even more dangerous this year under 2nd year coach nrg_qbz. "I think the difference compared to last year is that guys are actually expecting to win when they take the field," said coach nrg_qbz. "We've changed our offensive play-calling and dialed it up on defense this year. We still have a long ways to go." Next up for MSU is the Auburn Tigers.
