    Utah Takes Down Bears

    Reeling Cal Falls Again

Salt Lake City, UT- The last 3 games Utah played their defense did an excellent job shutting down high powered offenses from Arizona, Arizona State, and Washington State, but the defense let up against the struggling Golden Bears and let them hang around until the very end.

The offense didn’t help them out very much by turning the ball over 4 times; twice by interceptions and twice on fumbles and managed to be stripped on a kickoff and a punt return. Cal faced a short field on a regular basis, and the turnovers kept the offense from getting into a good rhythm.

The offense still totaled 529 yards, 260 on the ground and 269 through the air. Troy McCormick was the lone bright spot on offense with 19 carries for 158 yards and 4 TD’s. Brandon Cox was 21/30 for 253 yards 0 TD’s and 2 interceptions. Richard Lee keeps making big plays when he gets the ball, and totaled 54 yards and 2 TD’s on only 7 carries.

Defensively, Hunter Dimick continued his assault on the Utah sack record. He tied the single season school record on Saturday with his 14th and 15th sack of the season, and now stands just 5 sacks from setting the all-time Utah record.

The Mean Green rolled into San Antonio and took care of business in a big way. It was an easy day for the starters as they only played for the 1st half, It was a well balanced attack for North Texas. QB J. Gill had a good day throwing for 3 TDs and 196 yards. RB L. Heath ran for 81 yards on the day. The defense had 5 sacks and 4 INTs, The Mean Green improve to 5-3 after a couple of losses to start the season
