    AIR FORCE 34 - TEXAS 31

My balanced offense came out the gate fighting against Texas. I was able to gain 3-5 yards hear and there which created a lot of 3 and short. I think this helped open up my playbook a bit. The story of the day is FB Johnson finally had a breakout game. The SR (RS) fullback destroyed Texas. When Texas would contain the outside for the option Johnson would get the ball. Sophomore QB Smith picked up where he left off last season throwing 11/16 202 yards, 3 total TDs, and 51 rushing yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Texas no-huddle hurt my defense. Being the first game of the season in 85 degree weather the Defense did all it could to try and slow down the no huddle. Texas was able to move the ball easily at times. Coach Noffke was not happy with his defense before half time when Air Force was up 21-7 and Texas came marching back tieing the game right before halftime. However, the defense was able to make several stops on 3rd down either forcing Texas to punt or the attempt FGs. Texas suffered to key inuries to their WR and DT who are out more half the season.

Player of the Game: FB Johnson - 19 carries, 103 yards rushing, 2 total TDs.

DARRELL BRADLEY GOES FROM ZERO TO HERO!

Bradley got the start at QB but was rotated out before he even got to throw his first pass. In stepped Aaron Andrews, who looked sharp. After moving down the field, the Aztecs got into the redzone and stalled out, where we quickly were reminded that I HAVE NO KICKER. Bradley stepped in to kick and it wasnt pretty but the 28 yard FG was good.
But on the 2nd drive, Bradley threw a slant pass way off the mark and the coach pulled him for what was expected to be the rest of the game. Andrews looked sharp formost of the game, throwing for over 300 yards and 3 TDs but he has one major weakness; INJURIES! three seperate times he was knocked off the field including a crucial drive at the end of the game while down 7 in which he couldnt return. Bradley was forced back into the pressure situation and handled it great but it was exciting to say the least. His first three passes were way off the mark, bringing up a 4th and 10 in which he found Russell for 17 yards and moved the sticks. A few plays later, he found Hill for 19 more to get inside the 30. with under two minutes, he hit Russell to get inside the five and two plays later Bradley hit the freshman Scott Anderson on his second score of the day.

With 90 seconds to play, the Hokies took over at the 20 with a chance to drive and win it. With great pass coverage all game long, there was noone to throw to and Everett Beed comes up with a huge sack followed by two passes batted down by the DBs.
With just under a minute to play, Bradley took back over only 65 yards away from the endzone. The first play he finally got a chance to showcase his athleticism (on thing Andrews lacked severely) and he broke free on a 22 yard scramble and got out of bounds. After a quick draw, Bradley then was sacked and the ball was brought back to the 38 and the 2nd timeout was used. A beautiful throw to Ruffin got the offense 24 yards and a hurry up offense set up another quick pass to Banks to get to the 3 yard line with 10 seconds to go but Banks was just short of the 1st down so I used my final TO.
Thinking hard, I elected to QB sneak the ball and Bradley just got enough and I hurried the offense to the ball for a quick pass, rather then a spike. The decision almost was killer as no receivers got open and a pass to Hudson was batted down with just 2 seconds to play.
It all came down to the leg of Darrell Bradley (who was 1/2 already having come up well short on a 40 yard attempt). RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE!

This game was more then an offensive showing though, the Aztec defense was phenomenal! Both Beed and Galea recorded two sacks each and the freshman Kenny Carroll added a 5th. Senior leader Mahbu Keels and freshman Justin Dunbar recorded interceptions. Freshman Stewart Vaughn led the team in tackles and also forced a fumble while transfer Khalif fry and Dunbar each recovered fumbles.
The Hokie Offense was entirely set up by touchdown runs from Rogers of 55 yards and 77 yards. Removing those two plays from the statbooks and the Hokies would be held to 80 yards rushing on 30 attempts while still begin held to 106 yards passing. The pass defense is a polar opposite of the nations worse air defense last season. The main weakness of the team was obviously the offensive line, who gave up 9 sacks and where flagged 4 times.

A great win to open the season and already knocking off 1 of the teams goals.

    COLORADO STATE 24 - COLORADO 13

ROCKY MOUNTAIN SHOWDOWN - Was finally able to snap the 4 game losing streak and knotch my first career win over my rival Colorado. The first drive CU QB Travis Beck was intercepted and CSU got it down to the 1 yard line. Oregon RB transfer Dontae Williams would end up punching it in for the score. All-American RB Tony Drake went off on 3 carries for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns. He took a sweep and a dive play to the house for six to give Colorado State a 21-3 lead in the first. CU fought back but was unable to hold CSU as K Ben Jackson nailed a 24-13 yard field goal with 1:37 left in to ice the game and secure the rivalry victory for the Rams.

UNLV OPENS 2015 WITH A TIGHT WIN VS LOUISVILLE
After a long offseason with many questions, Coach Wildcat got his team together and lead them to a solid 35-33 Win over a highly talented Louisville team.
    How the Game Was Won:

This game was a tight contest and a back and forth match-up between two very hungry teams on the verge of greatness. The Rebels had it's most promising season under Coach Wildcat, and the Cardinals were on the hunt for a Big East title. The game was one by solid defensive stands in the fourth quarter after a UNLV 42 yard field goal which put the Rebels up by 2.

    Turning Point:

The turning point of this affair was the final drive the Cardinals had. After a defensive pass interference occurred on 4th and long and gave Louisville a first down, Ian Bobak stepped up and got a huge sack on Louisville's Dominique Brown. This in turn gave the defense a lot of fire and on 3rd and long, Lawrence Bullock got a sack which put Louisville in a 4th and 25 position.
    Stat of the Game:
The stat of the game was the dominance of Senior Tight End Jordan Sparkman. With 9 receptions, he tallied 138 yards and a score. He definitely looks to be a favorite target of Taylor Barnhill for games to come.
    What UNLV Learned:
UNLV learned they could win the close ones. After a season where they lost 3 games with in the last :10 seconds of the game, UNLV showed they could close out a good team and maybe even dominate on the lines. Even though they got only 2 sacks, Dominique Brown had pressure in his face all day long. And when UNLV ran, they were effective. A 3.3 average for Senior RB Tim Cornett shows they aren't just a one dimensional team.
    What it Means:
UNLV starts 1-0 for the third straight season. The improvement throughout 5 seasons definitely makes the AD's in Las Vegas very happy with the work and effort put in by Coach Wildcat. UNLV has a tough test against #18 Nebraska next week and expect the Rebels to show a lot of fight like they did today in a hard contest in Las Vegas. A win here could be the signature win Coach Wildcat needs to keep his job for the Rebels.

The BYU Cougars stunned the nation this week with a huge upset over #8 Ohio State in Provo. Senior MLB Zac Stout set the tone for the game as he intercepted a pass on the Buckeyes opening possession. BYU had no problem scoring off of the turnover, as WR Marcus Matthews caught a 17 yard pass from Jake Heaps. Matthews had 3 total catches for 48 yds and 2 TDs on the day. The Cougars never looked back that point, as the defense remained on point and Heaps torched the Buckeyes, his stats: 17/31 314 yds 3 TDs 1 INT. The new face at tailback, Junior Corey Doyle had 23 rushing attempts for 116 yds and 1 TD. A solid day for the Junior. BYU will face Utah State in week 2, and starts the season 1-0.

    WEEK ONE GAME SUMMARY

    Final

    Utah-49
    BC-14

In a much anticipated season-opener for two equally matched teams, the Utah Utes were able to run away with a score of 49-14 behind the arm of new starting QB Andrew Montgomery (8-13, 162 Yds, 3 TD's, 1 INT). RB Donald Carey also carried his share of the load, turning in an impressive 192-yard, 2 TD performance.

The defense, which has been much maligned the first two years of Coach DMan's tenure at Utah, held BC to 293 yards of total offense and gave up only 14 points. In a performance that Coach DMan termed, "...tough, scrappy, and blue-collar," there is hope that the D can finally turn the corner and continue to improve on this week's performance.

The play of the game happened on the last play of the first half, when BC decided to attempt a FG that was obviously out of their kicker's range. WR Mo Lee recieved the attempt at the three yard line, picked his way to the right sideline, and then outraced the entire BC kick unit to the house, securing a 21-7 halftime lead that wouldn't be relinquished.

All in all, a very solid game on all fronts for Utah. Consistency has plaqued them under Coach DMan, as often the offense or defense would show up one week while the other wouldn't. This is hopefully a good sign for the future of Utah football, as they will need it next week when they host #19 Cal in Salt Lake City.

    Season 5 - Week 2

What a bittersweet game. Coach Noffke got his 50th win in 5 seasons and the Air Force defense has never played a more perfect game. It does not happen often for a team to shutout another team and Michigan came close to scoring but couldn't convert on 3rd down or 4th down. On a negative note my starting RB Jones and starting FB Johnson both suffered season ending injuries in the first quarter of the game. Air Force will have to rely on other guys to fill in the void and Coach Noffke is confident that some guys will step up.

On offense Air Force threw a lot of shotgun and Maryland-I at UofM's defense since they would crash the box often with 8-9 defenders. Many RBs seen carries. RB Parker seen a career day running the ball for 125 yards and 1 TD. Coach Noffke was proud of his performance and stepping up big. QB Smith continued to shine throwing for 202 Yds with a TD and rushing for 150 yards and 2 TDs.

The story of the game came on the defensive side of the ball. The defense stepped up big once two offensive captains went down to season ending injuries. Air Force only allowed 5 first downs the whole game to UofM. Air Force held UofM to 2-10 on 3rd down and forced a TO on downs in the redzone in the fourth quarter. UofM didn't help their cause as they totaled 5 drops.

UNLV Fires on All Cylinders Vs. Nebraska and Comes Out With A Blow Out Win

UNLV had been waiting and excited all week for a match-up to put themselves on the map. And they definitely showed it in a 52-17 win over #16 Nebraska. Defense played excellent, offense didn't miss a beat, and special teams even had a play or two.
    How the Game Was Won:

The game was won with an emotional defensive showing. After getting thrown all over by Louisville, the defense went hard to work practicing stripping and picking the ball off. Coach Wildcat knew that to win, the defense needed to for a turnover or two. Today though, the Rebels got 5 total turnovers and made opposing running back Mitchell Odom have probably his worst career day with 5 fumbles (3 of which were recovered by the defense). Two of the fumbles were also returned for touchdowns. Adam Smith showed his freshman campaign form with 11 solo tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble. Defense won this game. Plain and simple.
    Turning Point:
The turning point was on the first UNLV kick off after a successful scoring drive. The kick-off was short (maybe to the 10 yard line) and Mitchell Odom took the kick and then BOOM! He was blasted and SS Jared Hall and fumbled. This proved to Nebraska that this game would not be an easy out. It showed how the Rebels wouldn't lay down to a Top 25 team like in years past. UNLV showed up and showed up big today.
    Stat of the Game:
The stat of the game is obvious. 5 turnovers for the defense. One of the best defensive outputs for the Rebels. Another bonus stat: Taylor Barnhill already has 701 passing yards on the season. He is proving that his is going to be the Captain of the offense. He has now broken the school records for Yards and Touchdowns in a career. He needs 25 TDs (Has 7 now) and 3778 yards (Has 701 in two games) to take the Season Records.
    What UNLV Learned:
UNLV learned they can now contend with the "Big Boys" of college football. They now need to continue these massive strides and become a team who can have the same momentum into their conference games. Air Force's Coach Mnoffke and Coach Oshiomogho at San Diego St have been a thorn in the Rebels sides, especially after the wins by scoring with less than :20 left, and winnning those two games would bolster the chances of a MWC crown.
    What it Means:
This win puts UNLV in the spot light. After wins vs Louisville and now Nebraska, UNLV should be close to cracking the top 25 for the first time in Coach Wildcat's young Career. This is something that would help in so many facets of the game. Recruiting would sky rocket, National Exposure would rise, the Fan Base would grow, and not only does it help UNLV but the MWC as a whole. UNLV now has the daunting task of going to Boise St and taking on the Broncos on the Blue grass.

Senior QB Tarean Austin leads his Lobos to a 24-17 victory over UTEP

In his head coaching debut with UNM Coach BakerWildcat7 and his Lobos pulled out a 7 point victory against hated rival UTEP. The Lobos, who didn't play to there full potential, banded together and showed the kind of fortitude that a championship team has to show to continue to win. When asked about his teams overall effort Coach BakerWildcat7 said " We definitely didn't play at the level that we were capable of, but I and my staff saw things we could build on in the coming weeks." The highlight of the game was the play of senior QB Tarean Austin, who finished the game with 119 yrds on 10 of 14 passing and added 67 yards and 1 TD on 20 carries. When asked what he felt his team could do better, Austin said " Our team has alot of work left to do, our chemistry was a little off at times and we didn't make all the necessary plays when possible." At the end of the Lobos came away with a victory and solid momentum to carry into next weeks big game against #9 Tennessee.

    Wyoming 37 FCS SE 10

Well now that Wyoming has a new coach, Wyoming thinks they can become quite a problem now. FCS SE traveled to Wyoming for their first game of the season. The crowd had their signs face paint crazy tats to support their beloved Cowboys this game. As they went to the middle of the field for the coin toss Wyoming shook hands with the opposing players and wished their luck. Wyoming won the toss and chose to receive to begin the game. Wyoming gets the ball to start off and their QB Emory Miller Jr came out with a new offense "The Spread." This new style has Wyoming feeling confident this season since of their stellar QB and RB combo. Emory came running the ball with a few options that was getting shut down, and he just started giving the ball to Robert Heron. Heron was able to drive the ball down the field and Emory capped off their drive with a 8 yard run on a Read Option keep. Wyoming kicks it off after their PAT and FCS SE kick returner caught it ran to the 17 got hit and coughed it up. Wyoming got it back and Robert Heron took the hand off for a 10 yard Score. 14-0 Wyoming up. The crowd was roaring with excitement seeing their local team do good. Wyoming Kicked it off again and the return man was stuffed at the 14 yard line. FCS SE gave the ball to their HB and he broke a 76 yard run. For a TD. Wyoming from there on out just shut the offense down for FCS SE. Wyoming was able to capitalize off of turnovers all game. And the final score was 37-10

    Key Players.

    Emory Miller Jr. 19-34 2 TD(1 rush) 1 INT
Robert Heron 99 yards 1 TD

    COLORADO STATE 18 - #11 AUBURN 14

RAMS HANG ON TO WIN BEHIND THE LEG OF JACKSON

Colorado State was lucky to hold down an 18-14 victory in order and escape the #11 ranked Auburn Tigers in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn was really giving the Ram defense fits early with the stout defense & by effectively running the wildcat. After to handoffs for TDs from the Wildcat formation CSU was down in a 3-14 hole but tacked on a field goal to close the gap to a one score game before halftime.

A defensive third quarter was highlighted by a wide open TE Wesley Cody hauling in a 18 yard touchdown pass. After failing to execute the 2 point conversion CSU still trailed 12-14. After a quick three-and-out CSU got into field goal range and finally took the lead. Another stop gave a chance for the Rams to secure a solid lead but settled for another field goal to increase their lead to 18-14. A holding call followed by a sack put Auburn in a deep hole on the last drive of the game and ended up turning it over on downs.

CSU improves to 2-0 and finally cracks the top 25 for the upcoming game against Central Florida.

    Offensive Struggle

In what should have been a huge game for each offense based on the statbooks, turned into a great defensive battle. Unfortunately, the Aztecs' offense was workign against them at times with bad throws and drops which ended drives early and gave the ball back to the Falcons.

Both Bradley and Andrews worked themselves into the game and again, Andrews proved to be the better QB going 8/13 for 121 yards while Bradley only managed to go 6/16 for 61 yards. The receivers 4 drops sure did not help, including one that was dropped into the defense's hands for the teams only turnover in a crucial point in the 4th quarter. the Falcons used their pass game to exploit the only freshman in the secondary and it worked very efficiently. Caleb Smith finished the game 8/13 for 168 yards before he was knocked out in the 4th quarter and could miss extensive time.

The Falcon option was nonexistent today. Other then 1 broken play when Smith ran for 32 yards, he managed 0 yards total on his other 6 carries while the FB dive only could get 8 yards on 4 attempts and HB Matt Ralph was held to a long of 15 yards on the day and finished with only 75 yards on 17 carries. On the flip side for SDSU, Hudson could not get going all game. His only run over 10 yards was called back on a holding penalty.

The lack of a ground game combine with some poor passes meant the Aztecs found it very hard to move the football and had to punt 6 times and went 1/10 on 3rd downs. Overall the Aztec defense played extraordinary all game with Vaughn being the only one to give up any big plays. The final score of 23-10 doesnt do justice to the defensive gameplans of both teams as it could have easily been a low scoring 16-10 game or lower. Both teams will take their losses and move on. With Demetrius Smith as the new starter in the AF option, they shouldnt lose much. It appears Andrews should take the full time starter job before the next game

Brett Smith scores the only TD of the day for the Lobos

After a week one victory, UNM was riding a strong wave of momentum coming into its contest with #9 ranked Tennesse. That moment only carried the Lobos out of the tunnel, as they we trounced by the Vols 34-7. The Lobo offense just didn't make the necessary plays needed to come up with a W. Tennesse dominated both sides of the ball, even running for over 200 + yards with RB Mike Russell who finished with 3 td's as well. The lone bright spot for the Lobos was the play of star WR Martize Barr who finished the game with 6 receptions for 119 yds. The Lobos head to Waco, Tx for a tough matchup with the Baylor Bears.

UNLV Invades the Blue Grass and Gets the Win!
After a good week of practice and some mental preparation for the blue turf that Boise St has, the Rebels dominate. Especially Jordan Sparkman who had a career day.
    How the Game Was Won:
The game was all Barnhill-Sparkman. They were and unstoppable force with with 11 receptions for 214 yards and 4 touchdowns. The passing game all together was quite the show. 32 for 45 and 425 yards for Taylor Barnhill. This is proving to be quite the offensive team. Taylor Barnhill is becoming a complete man and is arguably the best QB in the nation as of right now. There are still 9 more games but as of right now, Taylor is the real deal.
    Turning Point:
The turning point of the game was a huge play by Jordan Sparkman right before the half. With the score 21 to 13 Taylor chucked the ball on a streak and the ball was tipped and caught by Jordan for the score with :05 left in the half. Jordan caught nearly every catchable ball thrown his way. He will be a force to be reckoned with.
    Stat of the Game:
1/10. Boise St converted only one 3rd down all game. The defense for UNLV stepped up big time to help the offense get good field position and keep Boise St off the board in the second half. This shows that the defense has been much improved from seasons past. Look for more big games like this in the defenses future come conference play time.
    What UNLV Learned:
The Rebels now know that not only can the beat the Big Boys at home, but they can go to the toughest places and not only compete, but win. UNLV showed the type of dominance that they did vs Nebraska and the grit and toughness against Louisville. Coming into conference play, UNLV needs to keep the momentum rolling.
    What it Means:
UNLV will now be ranked in the Top 25 (or just outside). This is the first time in Coach Wildcat's tenor that he will have a team ranked in the Top 25. Last week, we thought they would be there but they were just on the outside (30 overall). But now with a huge win @ Boise St, the Rebels should be there along with a good majority of the other MWC teams.

    WEEK TWO GAME SUMMARY

    FINAL-OT

    Utah-27
    Cal-24

In an overtime thriller, Utah was able to win on a FG to pull out a 27-24 win to improve to 2-0 on the season, and ultimately ranked for the first time under Coach DMan (coming in at #25 in the polls). In a back and forth affair, a INT on the first play of OT for California proved to be the decisive play that allowed Utah to make a come-from-behind (trailed 21-13 in the 4th).

The offense had its ups and downs this game. RB Donald Carey, who had 196 yds and 2 TDs last week, was limited to just 21 yds on 12 carries along with 1 TD. The running game overall accounted for a measly 5 yds for the game, leading Coach DMan to comment that it needs to improve for the team to have more success down the line. QB Andrew Montgomery had an up and down game himself, but stepped up late, throwing a 23-yd TD to WR Mo Lee with 1:23 left in the game that would allow it to eventually go to OT.

The defense again played a solid game overall, giving up 296 yds overall. They played another scrappy game, and shut down a Cal offense that talent-wise had an obvious edge. MLB Tony Lilly led the way with 8 tkls, several of them on the opponent's side of the ball.

Special teams was the name of the game, and even went as far to produce the POTG. K Jamie Tate went 4-4 to help keep Utah in the game at several key junctures. Tate has been a steady influence on the program the last three seasons, and it is nice to see him get some recognition for all the work he does (pulls both the punting and kicking duties). He will be sorely missed next year.

Up next brings Fresno STate, playing their first game of the season in week 3. An interesting footnote, Coach DMan leads a ranked team into a game for the first time in his career. It will be interesting to see how this Utah team deals with the accolades that also come with success.

    Week 3

    SDSU 10 Air Force 23

Air Force's rushing attack was not effective as it has been in year's past however Air Force caught SDSU playing the run to much and connected several times to their WRs on option pass. Air Force was productive on offense and landed themselves in decent FG range. Air Force's kicker made a career long 50 yard FG with no wind. Freshman AA Smith will be leading the Air Force team for the rest of the season (if he stays healthy) as QB Caleb Smith went down with an Injury and will be out the next 9 weeks.

On defense Air Force played strong. They limited SDSU all game in the rushing game to just 20 yards and limited SDSU passing game. Air Force will look to build off this momentum as they Utah in week 4.

In recruiting, Air Force has the potential to land a Top 10 recruiting class as several 5 star recruits have Air Force number 1 on their list. Air Force could see a top ranted backfield if they can pull it out in recruiting as the top 3 recruits are considering AF at the RB position.

Not much to say about this one, except Utah State is flat out terrible. They were rated D- on offense and defense I believe. Utah can't support many good teams with recruits, haha. The offensive starters came out in the second half, after BYU was up 28-0. It was a great home game for the crowd, has everyone on offense got some touches. Heaps was 7/11 135 yds and 1 TD/0 INTs. Doyle rushed for 59 yds and 2 TDs on 11 carries. The backup HB had 15 carries for 55 yards. Coach Fuzzy knows things will get a lot more difficult in conference play, so this celebration won't last long before it's time to get back to work.

    WEEK 3 GAME SUMMARY

    FINAL

    Utah-27
    Fresno State-21

In the first ranked game that they have played in awhile, the Utah Utes were able to hang on and win 27-21. It was quite a defensive struggle until the 4th quarter, when 28 of the 48 combined points were scored.

The offense once again had an up and down game, and Coach DMan continues to stress that this unit must improve if Utah is to make a run at the MWC crown this year. QB Andrew Montgomery went down midway through the game, and backup QB Marques Barclay came in and provided a spark. He threw a beautiful 22-yd TD to TE Ryan Green where he fitted the ball perfectly between the LB and the SS. RB Donald Carey continued his early season success as he rushed for 77 yds and scored 2 TDs.

The defense, although stat-wise not as impressive, continued to show that it will fight, fight, and then fight some more as they were able to consistently stop the FSU attack (minus the 4th quarter). They will need to be on top of their game as Noff's always lethal Air Force team is the next foe that they will have to face.

Conference play starts up for Utah this week, and 4-time defending MWC conference champion Air Force is up next. Although Coach DMan was able to notch a win last year in the series, he will no doubt still be considered an underdog against the much accomplished Coach Noff.

UNLV Travels to Laramie and Lose in a Shootout.
UNLV traveled up north for a date with Wyoming and it seemed the defense didn't come with. Taylor's career day was shadowed by some bad throws.
    How the Game Was Won:
This game was won by the Wyoming offense being a steamroller. They could not be stopped. If UNLV didn't score every possession they weren't gonna be victorious. And that's exactly what happened. Taylor Barnhill made some amazing plays but those were shadowed by his intercepts. Two were returned for 6 and that proved to be the difference in the end. Defense didn't do any favors either. No turnovers. Surprising after a +2 turnover margin in the first 3 games. Defense needs to step it up of conference play will be a nightmare.
    Turning Point:
The turning point came in the 4th quarter. After a successful onside kick, which was a gutsy call by Coach Wildcat, the offense drove inside the 10 yard line but couldn't convert on 4th down to tie the game up at 49. This took all the momentum out of the sails of the Rebels and thus lead to the loss. A conversion here would of been a huge victory for the offense and might of given the defense the spark they needed to win the game.
    Stat of the Game:
The biggest stat was the 4 INT thrown by Taylor. Not only were the costly, but two were taking back for six. This was reason today was lost. Yes, the defense did nothing but Taylor needed to be perfect to win and he wasn't. The team is on his shoulders and he needs to settle down when the game is close. He can be calm cool and collective against small guys and when the game is easily in hand but when the game is close, he needs to be at his best.
    What UNLV Learned:
UNLV learned that there are no gimmies in the MWC. Every coach is a fierce competitor and they are going to come out with their best games. Just because you play a 1-11 Wyoming team from last year doesn't mean they will roll over because were are "Big Bad UNLV with a 3-0 record". They will take any challenge they can get and we are one of the best. Focus needs to be recaptured after this one.
    What It Means:
This game now means that a Top 25 ranking will have to wait. You cannot lose games like this. UNLV needed to win but couldn't pull it out. This also hurts in the MWC. You need every win you can get but now starting out 0-1 will not help that title chances. UNLV needs to regain the focus from their first 3 weeks of games in the Nevada rivalry game next week. They cannot afford to lose another game.

Wyoming is able to pull away from 3-0 UNLV 56-42

Wyoming coming off of a 37-10 win in their first week had the crowd feeling confident this season for their beloved Cowboys. Wyoming came out of the tunnel all fired up for their first conference game of the season. They went straight to the coin toss after everything settled down. UNLV won the toss and chose to kick off. Wyoming lined up to get ready for the kick, as UNLV kicked it off White took the kick off and returned it to the 22 yard line. Wyoming went straight to work on their first possession of the game. QB Emory Miller Jr. was able to set up some great plays for his team. They started off running the ball which drove them down the field and Emory finding his receivers driving down the field even more, then Robert Heron was able to run it in for a 1 yard run to put Wyoming up 7-0 the crowd was excited to see Wyoming score so fast and easy. Wyoming's power legged Kicker set the ball on the tee and lined up signaled he was ready and booted the ball deep in the end zone preventing UNLV to return any kicks. UNLV came out with a run which was shut down quickly for a gain of 3. Then what Wyoming expected UNLV stepped to their Shotgun and just gunned the ball down the field. Wyoming's poor zone coverage left many seams and open spots for UNLV receivers to drive the ball down our throat. Coach Duke was upset, he knew UNLV was a straight throwing team and his team still wasn't prepared. 7-7 game was even. 1:37 left in the first quarter Wyoming got the ball back and led by Emory Miller was able to drive the ball down the field on clutch runs and options. Emory Miller was able to score off a QB keep off the read option. Wyoming goes up 14-7. Wyoming's kicker once again boots the ball into the end zone touch back. UNLV came out in the shotgun Coach Duke yelled a audible the Cornerback Thompson shifted to the flats, and Barnhill threw it right to him and Thompson took it back for a Touchdown. The crowd roared with excitement Wyoming was leading 21-7 at the end of the first Quarter. UNLV got the ball from their 20 and once again the pass attack got the better of poor Wyoming, but UNLV got to the 4 yard line and threw it to the flats once again where this time star corner Darren White came and picked the ball off for a 96 yard return! The crowd went utterly ballistic as Coach Duke hugged the Corner smiling. Wyoming led 28-7 feeling good. UNLV came back out on the field and I could see in their coaches eye's he was pissed. UNLV came out with another passing attack but went 3 and out and was forced to punt. Robert Heron got a good return but it was called back with a holding penalty. Emory showed he could throw the ball hitting Drew Martinez on a 56 yard streak for a TD with 29 seconds left before the half, Wyoming was up 35-14. UNLV came out with 15 seconds left and Barnhill hit his receiver on a streak for a TD right before halftime. Score 35-21. UNLV got the ball back and thanks to the arm of Barnhill they drove down the field for another TD 35-28. Robert Heron was able to drive down the field and score on a 9 yard run putting his Cowboys up 42-28. UNLV was able to score right back thanks to the arm of Barnhill throwing it for 37 yards to Lowe. Emory Miller was able to throw his 2nd TD of the day hitting Mitchell for 19 yards. UNLV up 49-35. Barnhill threw a bomb for 80 yards and was able to get back in the game only 49-42. Wyoming just chewed the clock but with 2:05 left Robert Heron broke a 40 yard run for a TD. That sealed the game having Wyoming winning 56-42. The crowd was extremely happy in seeing their Cowboys win yet another game and their conference game opening. To make it better Wyoming had 5 Visitors that game.

    Season 5: Week 4

    Utah 14 Air Force 48

After Air Force got dismantled last season against Utah in their only loss of the season, Air Force came out strong and hard and made sure would not do that again. Air Force jumped out to an early lead and Utah had no answer. Air Force went into halftime with a 24-0 halftime lead.

On the offensive side of the ball, QB Smith lead the team with effective passing and JR RB Ralph dominated the run game 218 yards rushing and a TD. Air Force used a balance attack and showed a lot of shotgun formations. The three injuries on offense are clearly visible but the team refuses to back down and use that as an excuse.

The story of the game came on defense. The Air Force defense held Utah to just 2-9 passing for 4 yards, and 2 INTs. Air Force stuffed the run often and early. However, in the fourth quarter with backups in, Air Force gave up two long runs which gave RB Carey the majority of his yards. The Air Force defense dominated the Utes all game and helped Air Force achieve its 4th win of the season before it heads back home next weekend against rival Navy.

    One Man Wasn't Enough

The play of QB Tarean Austin just wasn't enough, he finished with a monster game on the ground rushing for 261 yards and 3 td's and adding 167 yards passing in a loss to Baylor 35-26.
