Blame it on the Rain (yeah, yeah)

Miami struggles in the rain again. QB Christian smith struggled all game throwing 6 INTs as the hurricanes struggled to get going on offense. Despite 2 INTs robbins played well getting 262 yards on 10 of 15 passing with 3 TD while rushing for 96 yards and 2 scores. Not alot of bright spots for Miami in this one.

    Pre-Game
The Gators (2-0) travel to Knoxville for this conference match-up against the Tennessee Volunteers (2-0).
The Gators will look to get revenge on last years loss.

    First Quarter
I dont remember who started with the ball.
The opening drive for the Gators goes rewarded as Xavier Johnson finds Darrell Dean for a 21yard TD and a quick 7-0 lead.
The remainder of the first quarter goes scoreless and was probably littered with INT's from both teams.

    Second Quarter
HB Patrick Scott gets Tennessee even with a 30yard TD run 7-7.
Later in the quarter, Florida HB Matt Jones punches it in from 1yard out for a 14-7 lead.

Tennessee works the ball downfield and kicks a 47yard FG to bring the game in at the half, 14-10 Gators.

    Third Quarter
The Gators open up the. second half scoring with a 42yard TD pass to Darrell Dean, his second of the day. This time he beat the press coverage and Johnson got the ball off before the blitz. 21-10 Gators.
Looking to the air, Volunteer QB Nathan Peterman, is picked off in the flat by All-American Ronald Hall who takes it back for 6 and a commanding 28-10 Gator lead.

    Fourth Quarter
The Vols, looking to get back in the game go to the air again and this time Peterman finds WR Tim Williams for a 31yard TD pass. However a failed 2pt conversion leaves the score 28-16.
The Gators cap off the scoring with an 18yard FG with 2:19 left to bring the lead to 15, 31-16 Gators.

    Post Game Summary
    • Xavier Johnson
      • 18 of 29, 259yards, 2/4 TD/INT
    • Matt Jones
      • 83yards, 14carries, 1 TD
    • Kent Taylor
      • 96yards, 7catches, 0 TD
    • Darrell Dean
      • 76yards, 3catches, 2 TD
    • Team
      • 9 Total INT's for both teams.
      • Crazy option fumble, run for Tennessee was kinda neat

This is true. I wasn't going to win this game regardless of the weather, but just to mess with me the Rain Gods decided to have my players slip three times on crucial downs while the game was still close.

You had the right calls a number of times when I "gambled" on defense. On offense, I didn't really stay to my script and once the game was getting away from me, I had no idea what to do.

That's why I moved to the 'pass first and pass deep' offense...no matter how a game goes I never have to deviate from the gameplan.;)

    Canes Hold Off Gators
    defeat Florida 35-28

Editor's Note: This game was played in the rain and made all parties involved miserable. On one play early in the first half, two of Florida's receivers slipped at the exact same time ...

The Miami Hurricanes took a 28-7 lead into halftime and had a 35-14 lead midway through the fourth quarter, but were forced to survive multiple onside kicks to come out on top of the Florida Gators 35-28.

With the score tied at seven, the Canes scored 21 points in the final four minutes of the second quarter, keyed by long 4th and 1 TD run and Florida turnovers. With the ball on the Florida 38 yard and facing a 4th and 1, Miami called on HB Randy Johnson to keep the chains moving. Johnson, running off tackle, was able to run untouched into the end zone after initially seeming to have nowhere to go. Florida would go on to throw interceptions on three consecutive possessions, two of which the Canes converted into touchdowns. The first, occurred with just under a minute to go on a 28 yard TD catch from QB Christian Smith to WR Malcolm Lewis. The second, with just two seconds remaining in the half on a wheel route by Johnson.

Miami controlled the majority of the third quarter and appeared on its way to extend the lead as it drove deep into Florida territory with the quarter nearing its end. However, on the last play of the quarter, Florida CB Brian Poole intercepted a bubble screen and with open field in front of him, returned the pick 77 yards for a TD. To begin the fourth, Miami would turn the ball over, giving the Gators hope and the possibility of cutting the once 28-7 score to 28-21. Instead, the Miami defense would step up and return the favor as MLB Raphael Kirby stepped in front of a Xavier Johnson pass and returned the pick 36 yards for a TD. Kirby's touchdown deflated the Gators, but more importantly, gave the Canes a relatively comfortable 35-14 lead.

SatansAngel1104, Good game. I feel the same way about the rain. Despite the last 4 minutes in the first half when I scored 21 points, I think the turning point was the INT TD by my MLB after you had just closed the gap to 14 and had the ball again early in the fourth. Also, I converted a high number of 3rd and longs.

    Notable Stats
    Miami Florida
    QB Christian Smith - 12/18, 193 yards, 3 TD, 4 INT QB Xavier Johnson - 19/27, 322 yards, 3 TD, 5 INT
HB Randy Johnson - 23 car, 87 yards, TD, long 38; 3 rec, 38 yards, TD, long 29 TE Kent Taylor - 7 rec, 151 yards, long 47
WR Malcolm Lewis - 2 rec, 37 yards, TD, long 28 WR Claude Bryant - 5 rec, 81 yards, TD, long 25
WR Angelo Jean Louis - 2 rec, 45 yards, long 31 WR Matt Estes - 3 rec, 48 yards, long 29
MLB Raphael Kirby - 6 tack (2 solo), TFL, .5 sack, 2 INT, TD FS Anthony Wheeler - 4 tack, sack, INT
DT Luke Maxwell - tack, TFL, sack, FF CB Brian Poole - 3 tack, 2 INT

    Mizzou 69
    Vandy 0

Vanderbilt tried desperately to force Mizzou to break the scoring cap in this one as they allowed themselves to be sacked 9 times and threw 8 interceptions while playing terrible defense as well. Mizzou wouldn't be baited though as the Tigers reserves repeatedly ran out of bounds inside the ten in the second half with nobody between them and paydirt. The ugly game will certainly reflect poorly on the Tigers redzone efficiency and punting average as they repeatedly booted the ball out of the endzone on first and goal.

    Canes Overcome Slow Start
    defeat Mississippi 31-7

The Miami Hurricanes struggled throughout the first half as the offense had problems with the Rebel pass rush, leading only 10-7. Yet, fortunes would change near the end of the half as QB Christian Smith found WR Malcolm Lewis on a short crossing pattern that Lewis took for the score 80 yards.

Ole Miss, deflated by the last second score, would be unable to mount much resistance in the second half, allowing he Canes to pull away.

    Notable Stats
    QB Christian Smith - 14/24, 323 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT
HB Randy Johnson - 14 car, 96 yards, TD, long 37
WR Malcolm Lewis - 5 rec, 145 yards, TD, long 80
    WR Lamar Christensen - 5 rec, 124 yards, 2 TD, long 49
MLB Raphael Kirby - 14 tack (8 solo), 2 sack
DT Luke Maxwell - 4 tack, 3 sack

    Arkansas beats up on Baylor

Everybody plays as Arkansas crushes Baylor. 3rd string Athlete qb Ronald Moore got to see the first action of his career on both sides of the ball. Moore who was a top prospect at corner and at qb had a chance to play nickle back tonight when 4th string CB Ross Rawls was injured in the 3rd quarter. Moore didn't waste much time returning a INT for a TD. Then in the 4th quarter Arkansas took out there second string and inserted 3rd and 4th string players, Moore got to play some QB running for 60 yards and throwing for 2 TDs. 3rd string TE Orlando Johnson continues to amaze in late game situations. The 6-7 Johnson has proven to be vacuum for any jump ball over the middle. The receiving specialist Johnson may see more playing time with the starters and will most likely be moved to WR next season.

The Crimson Tide responded after their disappointing loss to FSU by coming out and taking it to the Aggies. After the Aggies scored on a nice 37 yard TD pass from Matt Davis to Thomas Johnson to score first. The Tide scored 22 straight points. Richard Scott threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter. Then the defense got it going by recording a safety with the Tide getting two more field goals. The scored hovered around 22-7 for most of the second half, but the Aggies refused to quit as Trey Williams scored on a 4 yard run and with the two point conversion the score was 22-15. But Bama would seal the deal with a 7 yard TJ Yeldon touchdown run making the final score 29-15.

    Virginia 14

The Crimson Tide flexed its muscles early against Virginia. The Tide scored the first 21 points of the game with Michael Burks scoring on 2 touchdown passes from Richard Scott. TJ Yeldon then added the third touchdown in the second quarter. The Tide tried to put the game away later in the second quarter, but was denied on third down around midfield. It was the first failed third down conversion of the game for the Tide and from that point on the Tide started losing momentum. The Cavs scored a touchdown near the end of the third quarter, and then added a second in the fourth quarter. They had a chance to tie the game, but were shut down on four downs. Their final offensive play was caught at the one, but the receiver could not get in the endzone. On the next play, TJ Yeldon broke a 99 yard run to clinch the game, followed by Jason Watkins running the ball to put the game out of reach.

    FSU 21
    Alabama 14

This was 2 weeks back I think but I've been way too busy so didn't write it till now. Great game, but I do forget some of it.

-After forcing Alabama to punt, returner Marvin Bracy muffs the punt setting up an easy Bama TD: 7-0 Bama.
-FSU gets the ball back, 1st play Jameis Winston scrambles for a huge gain, tries to make a move and fumbles. Picked up by Bama LB for a TD. 14-0 Bama.
-Neither team scores the rest of the half and FSU plays conservative.

But in the 2nd half, FSU kept playing their game and was able to move the ball well with the run and the pass, scoring once in the quarter, to bring it to 14-7. FSU played their slow style and the defense came through, shutting Bama out after those first few plays. FSU tied it with an Eddie Huffman run from 2 yards out, got a quick turnover, and spider 2- wide banana'd it to FB Cole Rodgers for a 1-yard score and the come from behind win.

LSU-Auburn had a little hiccup, but the game went something like this.

Davenport wrung off some huge plays against Auburn's best defender and helped LSU come out to a 21-14 lead. With 5 minutes left in the 3rd of a disconnect, we decided to play another game to the "two minute warning."

Auburn made a furious comeback on the restart, scoring a TD and FG. The LSU defense was being manhandled all of a sudden. With :36 seconds left to play before the "two minute warning", Davenport came up with yet another big play. He took a pass from LSU territory and took it all the way inside the 10. 1 play later, LSU was back up with the theoretical 28-24 lead. Auburn was able to move into FG range, but a break from the IPA's reminded recchem that he was down by 4. So on the last play, he threw it up as far as possible, and it was caught...but then dropped.

Canes Nurse Big Lead to Victory
    defeat Florida State 27-14

The Miami Hurricanes built a 21-0 lead midway through the third quarter of the game which proved to be enough in a 27-14 victory over the Florida State Seminoles.

The game plan for the Canes was simple, keep the ball away from the high-powered Seminole offense and limit mistakes. Though Miami would miss a short field goal on their first possession of the game, they would break through on their second on a 12 yard TD pass from QB Christian Smith to WR Lamar Christensen. While the Canes controlled the ball, the Florida State offense seemed restless and began to press, leading to turnovers and mental mistakes. When the Canes defense wasn't forcing turnovers, the Florida State receivers were dropping passes. Miami would take advantage of the opportunities and would cash in late in the second quarter on a 31 yard TD reception by HB Randy Johnson.

The third quarter saw Miami extend their lead on Christensen's second TD reception of the game, this time from 67 yards out. Down 21, Florida State with a new sense of urgency, marched down the field and scored on a four yard TD pass from QB Jameis Winston to WR Christian Brown. Nevertheless, the Canes would remain true to their game plan and continue to play ball control. The Canes would add two field goals while forcing the Seminoles to drive the length of the field for their other touchdown. In doing so, Miami kept the clock running while preventing Florida State from quickly getting back into the game.

Kapono, Good game. The early going was tough for you with the dropped passes and the turnovers. That's exactly what I needed in order to win the game. The last few times when we've played, once you got the lead I was never really able to adjust and get back in the game. Also, the early lead allowed me to keep on running the ball and throwing short passes, not having to force the ball.

    Notable Stats
    Florida State Miami
QB Jameis Winston - 9/16, 149 yards, TD, 2 INT QB Christian Smith - 12/21, 229 yards, 3 TD, INT
    HB Eddie Huffman - 8 car, 29 yards, long 11 HB Randy Johnson - 13 car, 63 yards, long 26; 2 rec, 63 yards, TD, long 32
WR Christian Brown - 7 rec, 113 yards, TD, long 38 WR Lamar Christensen - 3 rec, 80 yards, 2 TD

    Georgia 27
    TAMU 10

A 3-3 game at halftime, that saw Georgia throw 4 first half INT's and TAMU squander a couple of opportunities at midfield, suddenly expoded in the 3rd quarter with 3 TD drives. Georgia would ultimately come out on top on the strength of the defensive line (each DL starter had 2 sacks on the day) and some stick-um applied to the WR's hands in the 3rd quarter (Georgia WR's had 10 drops on the day). For the Aggies, the running game was solid if unspectacular, but QB Matt Davis struggled in the passing game completing 8-15 for 98 yards with 4 INTs.

Good game Jayrah. Sorry for the pass happy, "fling it deep" mode I was in. About 2 snaps into the game I realized I just wasn't real interested in playing NCAA and was kind of just going through the motions on offense.

I find NCAA gets stale for me if I do not reinvent my offense. Developing new offensive strategies and recruiting keeps me interested. I have been running my current offense for too long.

Eh, for me it's the gameplay itself that has gotten stale. The physics engine on Madden makes that game play so much cleaner than NCAA that coming back to play NCAA is just painful at times. I still enjoy recruiting which is what is keeping me going for now.

4 years ago WR Davenport left Texas and A&M behind to play for the Tigers. With just 2 cathes, he changed the game.

LSU got the running game going early. With that, Davenport caught a pass off play action and ran for 53 yards for his first TD. An interception by Davis would set up another LSU TD. The Aggies would go to the ground for a "Long" 63 yard TD. The Aggies defense, though, would struggle on 3rd and long. Bowman would score from 19 yards out on such a down.

With a chance to extend the score, Clark would throw a pick 6 of a great defensive play by the Aggies. After a LSU FG, A&M had a chance to score before the half. Golden picked off a pass to the endzone, ending the scoring threat. LSU was up 24-14.

Aggies start the 3rd with a FG. Clark fumbled the ball back to A&M, who turned it into 7 points for the tie. The Tigers kick a FG with 2:50 remaining. The Aggies would get all the way to the 5 yard line, but has to kick a FG with 1 second left.

Overtime! LSU starts with a FG. A&M this time drives to the 7, but has to kick a game tyiing FG. A&M starts with the ball, and gets to the 6. But the reoccurring theme of not being able to put the ball in the endzone continues. A&M gets 3. LSU faced another 3rd and long, but Davenport breaks away from the coverage. Clark found him in the endzone, and it was winner winner chicken dinner.

GG Jayrah that had me on the edge of my seat.

GG. I had no problem with your mode in this one. I just didn't adjust all that well to it. Fortunately, your receivers were dropping balls left and right to keep it close. But I couldn't really put together a drive that didn't end in your LE sacking me at a key moment. Until EA fixes line play, the user controlled LE will dominate. Just like I did against Arkansas, I left my TE and RB in to block and they just got passed up for the sack. I guess I might be the only one, but I think the user LE on every play is a distinct AI advantage. (Shrug), oh well though, I guess. GG all the same.

This was probably the funnest game I've ever played in this version. I've had some dog fights, but this fell into the category of "Epic" games. First of all, it was mine and Mexi's second double OT game, so there's that. And then it just boils down to the fact that LSU made one more play. On third down from the 5 on my final drive, I called a perfect hot route against pressure but my usually sure handed TE dropped a stop route before getting hit two steps into the endzone. On the touchdown pass to Davenport, I decided to bring pressure and bump, seeing that it had worked the past couple of drives on key third downs, but the jam was missed by our "best" cb, who just had a TERRIBLE game and is still scraping the black off of his toast.

2 field goals (each to tie the game at the end), skidded inside the uprights for me, one to each side, thanks to the icing of the kicker. I mean BARELY got in. Had my heart pounding when I pushed the stick and it flipped too far to the inside. With a sophomore kicker it was just too close for comfort. We each dropped ints in OT. And on and on. He made great plays, I made great plays. It was just a really good game. Even though I lost, it brought my interest back for this league.

As Dru50 's been saying, while the recruiting is extremely fun, the gameplay at times is totally unbearable. Against Whygod I swear I was about to quit, just because my team played like they were D- rated all around the field. Then against Dru I play good till the 4th quarter. But this game was a boost in moral. I don't mind losing, but I hate losing and feeling like I didn't have any control, as do we all. I simply lost this game on a drop and a horrible game by my top cover cb. What can ya do? :)

It was a great game. On the last play, I figured you were gonna bring the heat. So I was going to look for Bowman over the middle. I just saw Davenport break free and just prayed "Please dont fuck this up" haha.

LSU is making a habit of playing tight games. An early fumble by HB Brothers would give Bama a short field to work with, who punched it in 2 plays later. The next drive Clark was picked off on a third and long. Luckily, a 53 yard FG attempt by K Hennessy was short. Then it was Bama's turn to tunr the ball over. A 5 second rugby scrum ensued on a fumble, in which LSU came away with the ball. HB Louis would take it in from 2 yards out to knot it up. After a LSU FG, QB Scott would throw a perfect pass to Burks and set up a TD right before the half. 14-10 Tide.

At this point, Clark took over the game. He found a wide open Johnson on third down for the go ahead score. A interception by Scott would lead to another Clark TD. But Bama would strike back with 2 TD drives of their own, making it 28-24 Tide. Clark would calmly work the offense down the field and find a wide open WR Wilson for the lead. 2:20 left was too much time to give the Tide, and they took advantage of it. On third down, Scott found no one open. So he just ran it 45 yards straight up the gut for a late lead. With the Tigers down by 4, they couldn't settle for a FG. Once again, Davenport was the go to man of the game. He reeled in an 81 yard pass to put the Tigers inside the 10. Three plays later, FB Mackenzie pounded it in, and a futile comeback for Bama ensued.

GG gowazzucougs like you said last night, you invent new ways to lose.

    Arkansas rides defense to victory

Mizzou gave away 7 points to start the game via a pick 6 on the first drive. After getting stopped on the next drive Missouri came out for its third position down 14 - 0. But Mizzou came back with 10 unanswered to close out the First half down 14-10. Mizzou force an Arkansas FG to start the second half. But at this point the pass rush started to get to the Mizzou QB. Edwards started getting through the line, and while Mauk mostly avoided him, the pressure forced INTs and the few times Edwards did get through the 4 sacks and one Fumble killed off most of the Mizzou drives.

Defensively Mizzou did a good job containing the Offensive Arkansas machine. Preventing big plays and not letting ball carriers past the second level.

Good grief. F'ing cpu gives me a sim loss to MSU at home? Really? MSU must be rated two full letter grades below TAMU in every category. I hate this game.

I was. I still am. I am mad at the cpu for trashing on my season because of my 4-4 record instead of using the ratings of the teams to determine it.
