    Utes Roll Over UCLA
    Utah Blows Out Bruins 66-24

Salt Lake City, UT- Utah destroyed UCLA Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium behind a true freshman QB who was dazzling all day. Matt Harris was a highly touted athlete coming out of San Bruno, CA and figured to be an excellent prospect at the college level. Most pundits believed he would need some seasoning to be able to play well, and that’s what the original plan was. But after last week’s season ending injury to Brandon Cox his timetable was accelerated and he showed he may have been ready the whole time.

Coach Jenkins says the staff has had confidence in Harris since he stepped on campus, “He’s an athletic freak at the QB position. With his speed and throwing ability he could be an excellent player for us for the next several years. We are very excited about him getting on the field and showing what he can do.”
Utah’s offense looked more explosive on the ground this week than they have all season. Matt Harris showed his break away ability several times, and broke some long runs against a UCLA defense that obviously wasn’t prepared for him. Harris played better than just about anyone could have reasonably expected throwing for 200 yards on 16/22 passing for 3 TD’s and 1 interception. He also carried 18 times for 114 yards, but was unable to break into the end zone. Troy McCormick picked up the slack on that end though carrying 17 times for 162 yards and 2 scores and scored on a 17 yard screen pass as well.

Utah’s passing attack seems to go with the hot hand for the week and this week is was Peter Haley. Haley led all receivers with 7 catches for 93 yards and 2 TD’s. Nick Coe also caught a TD pass from Harris, and he has begun turning into the player Utah coaches thought he could be when he committed. He is showing an excellent ability to catch and run, and is a tough cover for defensive backs and line backers.
