Special Teams Jump Start Penn State

    #7 Penn State 54
    #24 Illinois 3

Penn State bounced back in a big way following their tough loss against #2 Michigan with a 51 point win over the #24 Illini. PSU got on the board first with a Wiggins FG to make it 3-0. Illinois was able to get deep in PSU territory but their defense held and forced another FG. On the ensuing kickoff, Markell Cameron zig-zagged through defenders for a 92 yard kick off return for a TD. Penn State added another FG and Moore scored a TD with 30 seconds to go in the half to put the Nittany Lions up 20-3 at half.

The second half was more of the same. The defense held strong and was disruptive - racking up 4 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries and an interception. After another Wiggins FG, and a defensive stop, Robinson received the punt and took it 62 yards for another TD. On their next drive of the quarter, McIntosh hooked up with Wade for an 18 yard TD for his only TD pass of the game. Wiggins made another FG and Derrick Jackson capped the scoring with 2 more TDs to finish out the game.

    Spartans crush Buckeyes
    Michigan State - 52
    Ohio State - 21
QB Perry for the Buckeyes was just horrible today, he was able to pass for over 300 yards but also gave up the ball a whopping 5 times, could have been 6 but the offense recovered the fumble. Michigan State's defense was just on their game today, only 2 times were they caught napping. After last week's showing against Nebraska, this is exactly what we needed, once again the rush defense held the opponent under 50 yards. Our run game still isn't up to Coach Masler's standards with Mitchell coughing up the ball that was taken for a TD, but the passing game is improving vastly. But the best part about this game was we only got sacked ONCE compared to numerous times since I returned.
Michigan State improves to 5-4(2-3) and still hopes to finish 3rd in the Legends division.
    Stats
    C. Cook - 12/17, 243 yards, 3 TD
    B. Richard - 2/4, 32 yards, TD, INT
    J. Caesar - 4 Rec, 70 yards, TD
    J. Cole - 4 Rec, 95 yards, 2 TD
    A. Sims - 3 Rec, 78 yards, TD
    T. Jones - 7 Tackles, 2 TFL, INT, FR-TD
    R. Williamson - 9 Tackles, TFL, INT, FF
    E. Fields - 5 Tackles, INT-TD

Purdue didnt show up again. Wisco cruises to blowout 65-7

After a fast start with an opening KR scoe for Doe, Less then 2 minutes later, Scott Brown took a punt back 70 yards to score. late in the first Rogers broke off a 68 yard run. 1st play fo the next drive, Purdue fumbled in the backfield and Vickers scooped ad scored to go up 28-0 on just 7 offensive plays. Purdue held them to a short FG mid 2nd before Mayo hit Whitlock on a 54 yard catch and run a minute later. Another 90 seconds later, Brown went 61 yards on his 2nd punt return score of the day. The half came to a close with a 49 yard Fg to make it 48-0
Third quarter was all the same. First drive for the Badgers, Mayo hit gordon as he slipped out of the backfield on a screen and he did the rest for 57 yards. First play of the next drive, Gordon went 71 yards to score again. Now up 62-0 the offense shut things down. They managed to run the ball well in cleanup time but limited themselves to just a FG from then on out. with 21 seconds to go, Purdue finally dipped onto the scorebox with a 53 yard fumble recovery score.

Mayo went just 6/10 on the day with 176 yards and 2 scores
Gordon went off for 173 on just 14 carries and Rogers went for 109 on 9 carries. Doe was knocked out and will miss next week as well.
Defense played great again. Mcdonald led the way with 15 tackles and an INT and FF
Fisher did his thing for 3 more sacks while all 3 other DL members recorded 1 each.
the secondary didnt record any INTs but did force 5 fumbles. 6 turnovers for Purdue

Tip of the Cap to Anthony Fields. Boise State's 89 Kick power punter for a 97 yard punt this season!
the 3 other 87 yard punts in the nation are also hella impressive

    Nebraska Escapes Upset Bid 36-26
    Two Seniors Set Records

Lincoln, NE- It was a record breaking day for the Blackshirts "Grandpa's" Saturday afternoon. David White and Todd Peat both set career marks and etched their names into Cornhusker lore. Unfortunately White and Peat reaching their milestones were almost the only 2 high points of the day for Nebraska.
In the 1st quarter Todd peat notched career sack #31and passed Trev Alberts (Really?) in the Husker's record book. On the next play he started to grow his record with a second sack and safety. In the 3rd, White passed Dana Stephenson for the Huskers career mark in interceptions.

Nebraska took a 29-7 lead into the 4th quarter, and assumed that the underclassmen could get some good game time on the field. They did get game time, but it definitely wasn't good. "We came out with a win, but it wasn't pretty. This week the backups will get extra practice." Coach Bulgy was very upset with the way the underlclassmen allowed the underdog Wildcats to claw their way back into a game that was, for all intents and purposes, over. The backups allowed 12 unanswered points and gave the Wildcats an opportunity for a huge comeback upset. The starters came back in with a 29-13 score and Northwestern moving the ball. They allowed a 35 yard TD on their 1st play back in to make the score 29-19. Then they made it worse by giving Northwestern the ball back on an onside kick.

Northwestern QB Jared Sims threw an interception on 4th down to MLB Mike Lamb. When the offense came back on the field the starters re-entered the game on that side of the ball also. Adam Gore picked up 20 yards on his first carry, 28 yards and his only TD of the day on the second. Northwestern burned the defense on the next posession for a 67 yard TD setting up another onside kick. Sr. WR Erick Fountain fell on this one and Nebraska ran out the clock.

Jason Robinson led the WR with 1 catch for 23 yards and a TD. Corey Burns is becoming the player Coach Bulgy thought he could be when he told the :3stars: FS that he would be a dominant SS in his scheme. He finished with 8 tackles, and returned an interception 46 yards for a TD. Peat had 4 sacks, Santos, Ruffin, and Harrison also had one. Freshman Larry Harris' first career interception was wiped out because it happened on a 2 point conversion. Bondi went 2-3 hitting from 58 and 44 and hitting the crossbar on a 63 yarder.

    When it rains it pours:

Turnovers kills drives, morale, and any chance of staying or winning a game. Wake Forest shot themselves in the foot and Clemson took advantage of the short field and scored 21 of their 52 points off of them. In the first quarter the score was dead even, 7-7, but in the second disaster struck for the Demon Decans. The Clemson offense scored 24 points in the second quarter and 14 of them came off back to back fumble recoveries. QB Tony McNeal and RB Shane Jackson both scored quickly using their legs to go a short distance to score. To continue the trend Wake Forest fumbled yet again in the opening kickoff of the third quarter and again Jackson did not have to go far to score, 4 yards.

As mentioned Wake Forest turned the ball over 3 times and FS Freddie Hackett, DT Jonathan Miller, and MLB BJ Goodson would be to blamed for them. These guys helped in the 52-14 blowout and led the defense to a stellar performance. The backups got plenty of coming in the third quarter. The starters and backups allowed only one TD a piece, and dominated. The defense allowed 6 first downs, only one 3rd down conversion, 0.4 yards a carry, caused 3 turnovers and sacked the QB 4 times.

Clemson looks to keep the defensive intensity next week against rival Boston College.
