If old Macdoland had a farm in this game, he would have an interception here, interception there, interception everywhere. A pick by Clark would assist Miami in getting a FG. Clark would come back and score on an 18 yard scramble. LSU would also get a FG and pick of Miami's Vinson before the half.

Both teams began the second half with back to back interceptions. LSU would get a FG out of it. Miami would strike on their first play of the new drive. HB Sutton went untouched 80 yards, and it was 13-10 LSU. The ball would go to HB Green's hands, and he took advantage. He scored on the possession on a 5 yard run. Afetr a defensive stop, LSU looked to end the game right then and there. But a great one on one play by Miami's Sisk gave the ball back for Miami. recchem2000 must have out a curse on Miami's pass catchers tho. They had a case of the dropsies the entire game. The last one dropped right into the hands of SS Smith. LSU got a big run from Brothers on a 30 yard score, and a final interception by Vinson sealed the deal.

    #11 LSU 27 - #3 Miami 10

Your running game just took over after I had that long TD run. I just knew mentioned recchem2000 drops in the Weekly Worst was going to come back and bite me. But then again, we played in the rain, so anything goes there. :/

    34 - Mizzou
    15 - Miami

The Tigers defended their home turk against the visiting Hurricanes. It was the first meeting for SEC coaches boom and wyrmreaver and early on the coaches were feeling each other out, trading punts and possessions through the first quarter. Mizzou seemed to take the Hurricanes measure though and the hurry up attack started creating points. After HB Nick Cannon hauled in an acrobatic 14 yard TD catch early in the second, Mizzou turned it on as 2 more quick TD strikes, aided by a pair of Eugene Hicks INTs gave them a 21-0 advantage with the Half winding down. Miami wasnt content to just lay down though, and WR Lamar Christensen made a leaping, 60 yard catch in between double coverage to set up a late score for his team, narrowing the lead to 21-7.

The Hurricanes got the ball to start the 3rd, but disaster struck quickly as a 3rd down INT was turned into points 2 plays later by the tigers to push the lead to 28-7. Miami failed on a 4th and 7 inside FG range on their next drive, but Mizzou QB Brian Ray made possibly his only mistake of the game, throwing an INT to give the Hurricanes new life when he had a chance to put them down for the count. Miami however, couldn't come through and went 3 and out. The Tigers put together a nice drive that ended in a FG early in the 4th and then recorded an INT (Miami's 4th of the day) on the very next play. A few plays later it was 4th and inches just past midfield, a spot where coach Wyrmreaver virtually always goes for it, but with 4:30 to go the Tigers boomed a punt resulting in a touchback. Miami seemed galvanized by the timid playcall and marched downfield in the no huddle, cashing in with a TD and 2 pt conversion to narrow it to 31-15. After recovering the onside kick Mizzou caught Miami selling out to stop the run and Scott Sullivan took a little slip screen 29 yards and deep into Hurricane territory. Mizzou would add a FG to make the lead 34-15 with 1:40 to go. After a failed 4th down near midfield, the Tigers would take a knee to wrap it up.

    Stats of the Game:
Miami had 4 INTs, Missouri had 2, 1 of which was on a halftime hail mary
Miami was 0-8 on third down and 0-2 on fourth down

    31 - Mizzou
    7 - Auburn

For coach recchem2000 and Auburn, they can't catch a break even when they catch a break! The Auburn D held the Mizzou no huddle to just FGs in the first quarter as their offense struggled against the highly touted Mizzou D. Early in the second though, sophomore Nathan Graham would catch Mizzou in a cover 2 zone and throw a strike on a seam route to slot WR Nate Johnson and put his team up 7-6 in front of the hostile Columbia, Mo crowd. A couple plays later Brian Ray would hit his TE for what appeared to be a key first down around midfield but a big hit from the safety would jar the ball loose for a fumble! Auburn was in business with the lead and the ball, but on the very next play, the HB would cough it up and give it back to Mizzou. Brian Ray would capitalize, finding Marvin Cooper for a 31 yard TD, giving Mizzou a 14-7 lead after the 2 pt conversion. Auburn would march downfield, intent on evening things up, but OLB Larry Scott would make an acrobatic INT in the endzone to snatch points away from the visiting team. Ray again found a rhythm and hooked up with Marvin Cooper for the second time in the day, this one from 17 with Cooper just barely getting a foot down in the back of the endzone. Undeterred, Nathan Graham led his team back downfield looking to slow the Mizzou momentum. Unfortunately for Auburn, disaster struck again as SS Carlos Johnson would pick Graham off at the 1 yard line with time winding down before the half. Mizzou would come out in an empty backfield at the one in an odd bit of strategy. Coach Wyrmreaver, "I felt like they had been getting great push up front against our o-line and I thought the safe bet was to spread them out and just get a quick completion for a couple yards to get to the half. I figured coach Recchem would come out in man and possibly blitz, so we had the quick out dialed up." Instead, Auburn was in zone and the corner was sitting on the out route, Ray threw it anyway and hit the DB in the hands at the goal line for an easy pick 6.... except that the kid dropped it and allowed Mizzou to escape with a 21-7 first half advantage. A TD drive to start the second half by Mizzou culminated in a 12 yard TD run by Nick Cannon where he bounced off of two defenders to find the goal line. A pair of second half INTs sealed the deal and Mizzou added another FG to give the game its final margin.

gg recchem, frustrating one for you. A couple plays go the other way before the half and the whole complexion could have been different

I both love and hate this game..... mostly love though. You could always try a radically new strategy..... run the flex, or a 4WR no huddle air raid, or a single back with 2 TE on the field for almost every set, or a pro style with almost all your sets under center..... I have found mixing it up keeps the game fresh, I am currently in an air raid phase with a bunch of empty and 4WR sets, but I'll switch it up again at some point

The undefeated season for Cheez's final run came to a halt. LSU went up early with a Green TD run. Tennessee came back with their new shiny passing offense and scored on a 41 yard throw from QB Meyer. After a Clark interception The Cults got another TD as LSU failed to stop the goal line stand. The first half consisted of Clark being under duress and being sacked 4 times by the front 4. Tenn took a 17-10 lead into the half.

The lead extended to 20-10 with a Tenn FG. Things began to shift momentum wise for the Tigers. They started to get the passing game going. Then they got pressure on Meyer, who threw a pick and then was injured later. Backup QB Parsons came in and faced the same pressure, leading to his own pick. 47 yard TD runs from Clark and HB Green sealed the win for the Tigers.

GG Cheez. Year in an out our games have been the most fun. You will be missed.

After building a 17-0 lead, the Cocks stiffened up and came roaring back. The running game started clicking, as HB Sanchez totaled 111 yards and help set up 3 straight TDs. K Johnson kicked two straight FGs, the second as time expired for the comeback win.

Big plays were the name of the game. HB Green had scoring TDs of 64 and 66 yards. Auburn's QB Graham kept them in it with some big passing plays, passing for 354 yards and 2 scores. But 2 INT's and a failed onside kick ended the upset bid. GG recchem2000. Fucking Davenport.

#22 CANES COME UP SHORT WHILE AGGIES TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE IN CRUNCH TIME, WIN 14-12

This was an ugly game, as the Aggies prefer, I'm sure they didn't know they could win quite this way though. Miami slugged there way to a 6-0 halftime lead, behind a strong defensive effort and a methodical approach, but should have tacked on 3 more right before the break and came up short on a 38 yard field goal. Steve Sims, the kicker, looked like he slipped on the play (via lag) and certainly didn't get all of it. In the first half TAMU suffered drops from their sure handed TE's and a few miscues but never relented the touchdown.

The second half started a little ho-hum as both teams punted through the 3rd quarter, but then a nice, long drive was engineered by Robert Sampson, converting 2 3rd downs to bail out his O-line, who continued to try and give the game away with a hold, a false start and a missed block leading to a sack on the drive. But Sampson hit the sophomore Casey Smith and then senior John McDonald on post routes to save the drive, before the run game took over and Stanley Holland took in the go-ahead score with 6:57 left.

Now at 7-6, the crowd got loud and caused a total collapse by the Hurricanes. The next play QB Andrew Vinson dropped back and tried to throw a quick screen pass but got hit. The ball looked like it might be an incomplete pass but the ref ruled it a fumble and the Aggies pounced on it and returned it the short distance for 6 more to make it 14-6 Aggies. Miami would throw an interception 3 plays later but their D stiffened to give them one chance for a 94 yard drive after a great punt.

Vinson would lead the charge, throwing as often as he could to his go-to guy, senior Lamar Christensen. The two combined 3 or 4 times on the drive, the last a terrific back shoulder throw that Lamar went high into the air to grab and get a foot down in bounds and in the front corner of the endzone (best real life looking catch I have seen in the game to this point) making the score 14-12. But the story on the play was that Vinson ended up writhing in pain after taking a hard shot on the throw, putting backup Joseph Roberts in for the 2 pt. Roberts struggled to go through his read and threw off his back foot into traffic, as the TAMU defense picked it off to save the day. Miami would try an unseccessful onside, before TAMU picked up 2 first downs and ran it out.

    SIDE NOTES:

OMG My generally strong handed TE Burke nearly single handedly cost me this game. 3 huge drops, including what I thought was going to be an 85 yard TD in the first half on third down, after splitting the safeties, and then a holding penalty on the touchdown drive that took away a 20 yard gain deep into their territory. I was livid at him. Also, like I said, that catch by Christensen (which I've put up on DW) was a fabulous and impressive one. So realistic!

GG Boom29 it was a war. Just 1 play away from a loss but I'm more than happy to go 6-2. :)

I liked the low-scoring game for a change, but not getting a touchdown in the first half was huge. I should have picked a better play for the conversion.

Considering the way this season has already gone for me, I guess it's too bad to get the bad joojoo out of the way.

Coach Wyrmreaver and Coach Satans Angel squared off for the first time in a driving rain storm at the swamp. Early on the teams felt each other out, looking for openings and traded interceptions and punts. Late in the 1st quarter Mizzou got through when Jason Jones hit Kenan Fenner on a seam route for a 37 yard TD. Fenner made an acrobatic catch in the back of the endzone that seemed to galvanize his team. After a quick stop, the Tigers were on the move again and Fenner once again would make a diving catch in the endzone, this one on a go route against one on one coverage from 35 yards out. After getting the ball back again, Jones would take a read option, weave through the D and sprint away from the Gators for a 67 yard QB keeper to give Mizzou a 21-0 lead. Florida would finally get something going, scoring a TD with just under 2 minutes to go to cut the lead to 21-7. UF would get the ball back with a chance to cut the lead once more, but a late interception was followed by 3 quick passes to Fenner setting up a QB sneak from inside the 1 with just 2 seconds left in the half to give the Tigers a 28-7 advantage at the break. Mizzou got the ball first to start the second half and began marching downfield, but a poorly thrown ball would result in an INT and new life for the Gators. The new life was short lived though as an INT in the endzone would give the ball back to the Tigers, who would march it down the other way and cash in on a 27 yd TD catch by Marvin Cooper to make it 35-7. The rest of the game was simply academic as the Tigers cruised to a big divisional win on the road.

    Hurricanes Don't Lose
Make less mistakes than Tennessee, 24-14

It was an ugly game in Miami as the Hurricanes and Volunteers combined for 14 turnovers.

Tennessee threw five first half interceptions yet only trailed by seven going into halftime. After a scoreless third quarter, Miami appeared to put the game away on a one yard TD catch by Lamar Christensen to give the Canes a 21-7 lead, however, Tennessee would return the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to again put the pressure on Miami.

Miami, wanting to give the game away, turned the ball over once again giving Tennessee a chance to score and tie the game. Unfortunately for the Volunteers, much like the game started, a final interception would seal the game for Miami.

Cheez, sorry for the late post, but this game was just wonderfully horrible.

    Notable Stats
    Tennessee Miami
    QB Taylor Daugherty - 7/14, 113 yards, 3 INT QB Andrew Vinson - 14/27, 243 yards, TD, 4 INT
QB Dre Parsons - 3/9, 56 yards, 4 INT HB Keith Sutton - 17 car, 100 yards, TD, long 42
HB Anthony Alexander - 8 car, 29 yards, TD, long 13 WR Lamar Chirstensen - 8 rec, 165 yards, TD, long 52
WR Tony Brown - 6 rec, 110 yards, long 46 FS Kurt Covington - tack, 2 INT
    Turnovers - 9 (7 INT, 2 Fumb) Turnovers - 5 (4 INT, fumb)

    Canes Lock Down Vandals
    Defeat Idaho 35-7

The Canes took a late season breather from the SEC to welcome the Idaho Vandals. Despite the sunny weather in Miami, Idaho did not enjoy their stay as they left Miami with a loss.

The Hurricanes took a 21-0 halftime lead behind three first half TD passes from true FR QB Joseph Roberts, two of which went to WR Eddie Walker. The second half saw Miami extend their lead late in the third quarter as HB Keith Sutton found the end zone from two yards out. Then, Walker would put the exclamation point by returning a punt 72 yards for a touchdown to give the Canes a 35-0 lead. Miami would empty the bench from there, allowing Seniors some playing time in one of their last games in a Canes uniform.

    Notable Stats
    QB Joseph Roberts - 16/27, 262 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT
HB Keith Sutton - 21 car, 108 yards, TD, long 14
WR Eddie Walker - 4 yards, 98 yards, 2 TD, long 56; 72 yard PR TD
WR Lamar Christensen - 5 rec, 84 yards, TD, long 22

Aggies and Tigers Play Another Overtime, This Time Double and It Goes to A&M 29-26

It seems like every other year the Aggies are in an OT game with a Tiger team from Auburn and/or LSU, and once again it was the Tigers of Auburn that gave the Aggies all they could handle. Unfortunately for Auburn, they couldn't ride the home field to a victory, allowing key game changing scrambles in both OT's to Sampson, both on 3rd down. Aggie RB Corey Stephens waltzed untouched around the corner and into the endzone for a game winning score in the second overtime, after the A&M defense held Auburn to a field goal after a first and goal situation.

It was a typical SEC slugfest all the way, as A&M took a 7-3 lead and slowly Auburn mashed their way to a 13-7 headway. A couple Auburn turnovers changed the momentum though and after a series of nerve racking drives, including 3 tough stands by the Auburn D after turnovers to hold the Aggies to field goals, we were tied at 16.

OT #1 saw A&M score that touchdown but recchem2000 's boys marched right back to send it to OT #2. After the first play of the second ended at the 7 though, Texas A&M's defense stood up to the goal-to-go challenge and held Auburn to 3. Auburn's defense then forced 3rd down but couldn't stop the scramble by Sampson until it was inside the 10 and got manhandled on the edge on the winning play to Stephens.

GG Rec, games like these are just how we do it! Really happy to get out of this one victorious because it seems like I blow more OT chances than convert. :)

    Bring on the ZOU!

It was coach Cheez 's last game as the Vols head man, but the Tigers weren't about to let him ride off with a big win into his new full time job as a TMFL coach. The Vols first play from scrimmage was an INT. Mizzou went the other way and scored a TD. Next posession for the Vols was an INT in the endzone on a play where if the ball had been thrown just a touch earlier it could have been 6. Mizzou took over and immediately took a sack as the Vols tried to show that they were there to win. The next play though, Jason Jones hit Chris Jones on an out route, a Tennessee corner missed a tackle and Jones got a nice block from Kenan Fenner downfield, 85 yards later it was 14-0. After a UT punt, Mizzou struck again to go up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. Tennessee finally got on the board, getting a FG to cut the lead to 21-3. Mizzou then failed on a 4th and 1 from the UT 40 and the Vols looked like they could make a game of it once more, but three plays later, boom went the punt. Mizzou would cash in with another TD to go up 28-3 with just over 2 minutes left. Three plays later UT faced a 4th and 1 from their own 30 with less than a minute left. The QB goes under center for a risky conversion attempt and is promptly dropped 10 yards deep for a sack as he ran for his life. Mizzou would tack on a FG to go into the half with an imposing 31-3 advantage.

The Tigers would take the opening kick of the second half, drive the length of the field and cash in with another TD to go up 38-3. The defense continued to make stops and the offense went conservative, getting a pair of 4th quarter FGs to get to 44-3. UT, still trying hard, would call a pass after the second FG (at 2:44 left in the game), but the QB would get hammered, fumble, and Mizzou would recover on the UT 3 yard line, and would punch it in from there for an embarrassing 51-3 win.

Gonna miss you Cheez ! I wish it had been closer for fun's sake, but giving you a swift kick in the ass as you abandon us works too :)

Good luck on the job Market! Take care man!

    MIZZOU 34
    TAMU 7

    sort of.....

So, we had a disconnect early in the third quarter which makes me far less motivated to write a detailed recap.

It was 20-0 at the half, Mizzou hadn't punted and TAMU hadnt crossed midfield. Finally in the third, TAMU forced a Mizzou punt which they promptly took back for a TD to cut the lead to 20-7 and possible get some momentum at home. Mizzou got the ball back, moved to about midfield and we disconnected.

In the restart, Mizzou took possession at the 35. Soon after it was 7-0, er, 27-7..... both teams got a little sloppy and there were a couple turnovers. TAMU failed on a 4th down near midfield, Mizzou scored again to make it 14-0 / 34-7. Tamu threw a pick and Mizzou tried to run up the score throwing an incompletion in the endzone and then just kneeled out the half / game.

The story here was really two things. First, Mizzou has a really good defense and TAMU, like most teams, struggled to consistently move the ball against a scheme of mostly man with a sprinkling of zone and big blitzes from a variety of looks but based out of the 3-3-5 okie most often. The second thing was that TAMU blitzed.... a lot. When they weren't blitzing they were crowding the box and leaving their corners all alone to cover Mizzou's top WRs. Despite the Tigers repeatedly burning them on quick hitch patterns in the face of the blitz (thank you arkansas for kicking my ass the same way for 6 seasons and teaching me something new), they just kept doing it. As a result, Mizzou was able to move the ball well virtually all game and pretty much take care of business start to restart to finish.

GG Jayrah , i wish we could have seen if a momentum shift after your punt return would have made the game tighter..... there's always next season :)

    Arkansas claims the Boot!

Defensive struggle with not alot of offense for either team. Arkansas drove the field only to have their FB fumble into the endzone on a goaline collision. LSU's first scoring chance ended in INT inside the 5 yard line. Arkansas moved into FG range then threw a HB screen interception. LSU stalled in long FG range but converted 4th with a 46 yard TD pass. With a Minute left Arkansas tossed it up to its big man Orlando Johnson who out jumped the Safety for 48 yards then found a hole in the seam to score before the end of the half. First possession of the second half let to another jump ball to Johnson from 28 yards out.

Late in the 3rd LSU drove to the 3 yardline looking for the game tying TD, but on 2nd and goal threw costly 96 yard pick 6 which ended up being the last score of the game.

Mizzou wins an ugly slugfest for their first ever SEC crown.

#1 vs #2. The top 2 defenses in the nation. The best program in the nation (Arkansas) and their perennial little brother. The Tigers and the Razorbacks faced off in the SEC title game in what was a play in game for the BCS title game. Coach Hennessy of Mizzou came into the game ranked #1 in the nation but with an 0-7 all time record against the Hogs and coach WhyGod, including the Tigers only loss of the season, 25-22 way back in week 2.

One thing was for sure, both teams pulled out all the stops, there were fake field goals, fake punts, big hits, interceptions, and goal line stands on both sides of the ball. Ultimately in this one, the top rated Mizzou defense came up big. After watching their QB throw 3 first half INTs including one inside their own 10, the defense got nasty. On the day they recorded 2 INTs and an eye popping 9 sacks. Arkansas could never really get any run game going, including converting only once in 5 tries for run plays with 1 yard to go for a first down. Late in the game the razorbacks had a chance to take control, but the usually sure handed Orlando Johnson dropped a sure TD pass on a critical 3rd down near midfield. Prior to that drop, Mizzou had taken an 18-17 lead when QB Jason Jones made the hot read to hit HB Erik Curry on a wheel route. The Hogs had sent the house and nobody accounted for Curry, who scooted in for the TD from 36 yards out. After that dropped pass, the Hogs would fail on a 4th down try. As time was winding down Arkansas would force a 3rd and 4 from their own 30 with a little over a minute left holding one timeout. Mizzou would elect to play aggressive and spread the field, Senior WR Marvin Cooper would quickly shake the press and Jones would release the ball just before getting clobbered by the blitz, connecting for a 30 yard TD and an 8 point lead. An interception would seal the deal for the Tigers on Arkansas' last gasp, sending Mizzou to the title game.

GG man. Coming back to this game, I don't mean to blitz as much as I do. In fact I called A BUNCH of 4 man rush zone and man plays, but I think the power move, if press too quickly, is also run commit when your sprinting. I have to give up sprint from the D-line position and in 14 they need to take out run commit all together. It's the stupidest thing anyway, if I want to run commit, I'll call a heavy blitz.

Other than that Mizzou is just really strong this year. Interesting matchup next season though, as we return a bunch of key people and get stronger in our secondary.

Orlando Johnson single handedly won me our first matchup and my LSU game. I can't be too mad at him.

I dont think you blitz too much. I blitz often as well :)

The one thing I'll say is that you shift a lot and stack the box with show blitz or coverage adjustments that typically stack the middle of the field making it hard to run, but leaving your corners on islands. Especially when I spread the field with 5 wide your guys seemed out of position. That is, at least in part, the book on you. I'd suggest an adjustment because I typically ignore the run against you because I know you are stacking against it and I rely on the passing game, which has worked pretty well the last few seasons.

I look forward to next season too, I bring a ton of talent back (my defense is going to be loaded!), but I could be a little limited at WR. My top 4 WRs this season were all seniors. The guys behind them are pretty good, but it is a pretty big step back in terms of speed for the group as a whole.
