recchem2000, Are we going back to traditional recruiting restrictions or continuing with what we have? Just wondering.
FSU - we've got at least 17 scholarships to fill and will have just 1 returning scholarship D-tackle next year. Gary McDuffie T (77 OVR) from Oregon- 81 pass block, 82 run, 84 impact Tyler Dahl T (77) from Florida- 77 pass, 86 run, 76 impact. He's good but a terrible pass blocker. He'll play mostly in running and heavy formations Mark Horne DT (79) from Texas- Big position of need, he's got a good chance at starting next year. He'll be a good pass rusher. Lucas Beck SS (76) from Arkansas- We like him a lot. Decent speed, 85 zone coverage, 93 hit power, 81 block shedding. And he's 6'7" 203. We were able to get him from Boom29 thanks to timing of scheduling visits. I'm not sure how big of a deal being tall will be defensively, so it'll be interesting to see what he does in his career.
Yeah, I really wanted him. You were slowly gaining 40 points per week, so I don't know that I would have been able to keep him in the long run.
Virginia Tech first recruits Lamar Christian (#9 WR) - 6'0", 213 lbs Lamar has above average athleticism (91/89/79) and is a solid receiver all-around (CTH 78, CIT 76, RTR 78). Scott Bailey (#7 G) - 6'7", 299 lbs Scott is not as good a pass blocker (79 PBK, 82 RBK) as the coaching staff would like, but since he will not see the field immediately, he will get a chance to improve. Overall, he is a balanced player, but lacks strength (72 IMP, 84 STR) at the point of attack. Christian Thomas (MLB #22) - 6'0", 228 lbs With both starting MLBs graduating, Christian is a big get for the Hokies. While not a great athlete (77/86/62), his football instincts should serve him well on the field (82 PRC, 84 TAK, 76 BSH). Look for him to see the field from day one. Mark Taylor (#19 DE) - 6'6", 247 lbs Mark will be an impact player on the D-Line for years to come. While he is not a speed rusher (70/85/61), his physicality will pose problems for opposing lines (82 PMV, 80 BSH, 81 TAK). DJ Gordon (#15 ATH) - 6'0", 180 lbs Great athleticism (92/93/87)and game-breaking ability (92 ELU, 92 JUK) is what DJ brings to the table. While a good safety in High School, look for him to play exclusively on the offensive side of the ball, likely as the receiving HB (72 CTH) that Coach Boom has been looking for.
FSU - 16 seniors, 1 walkon, probably 5 to the NFL Here's who we got in order of importance. (79) DT Mark Horne. Good power moves and finesse moves. He'll start his freshman year. (79) DT Trey Allen. Good tackler and will see decent playing time year 1. (76) SS Lucas Beck. 6'7" 85 zone coverage, 93 hit power. Uncertain if he will redshirt. (78) DT Omar Hodge. Good overall DT. He'll be one of the 3 to see PT year 1. (77) T Tyler Dahl. Fantastic run blocker. Just added depth to the O-Line (77) T Gary McDuffie. Balanced blocker who will see a year or two of starting. (78) DE Matt Holt. Pretty good D-lineman, will redshirt. (77) G Antwan Holley. Run blocker, lots of depth already on the line. (79) TE JUCO Steve Singleton. Sophomore blocking TE with size. Will redshirt. (76) CB Will Mason. Good coverage overall. Will redshirt. (77) CB Lance Moore. He's better in man coverage which means he'll sit for a year or two. (75) TE Dwyane Riley. Receiving TE who will come in with the JUCO blocker. Will redshirt. (77) P Barrett Meyer. Power guy that'll start as a freshman at punter. (75) DE Michael Whitaker. He'll move to DT and redshirt if he fits the build, gotta check. (79) HB JUCO Bryan Bailey. 6'0" 244 Sophomore. 84 trucking, will redshirt. (68) OLB Jon Burch. 6'7" and may play as a user LB in 3-4 years. And 4 other guys who aren't anything special. We have really good recruits we're still pursuing: 3 O-Lineman, 1 LB, and 2 DE's
