    Season 7 Week 2

Advanced to week 2. A couple of user games this week. Is anyone doing the writeups on the week's games?

Texas Tech starts off the Mason Rodgers era with a huge win over Alabama in Lubbock 52-7. This game should be a statistical blueprint for the Red Raiders to live by.

Rodgers is a beast. He has the arm strength and accuracy to make any throw on the field. The presence of a run game for the Raiders was a welcome change, and it opened up some big PA passes for the Freshman phenom. Kelvin Richardson, the (RS)Junior HB, got the starting nod over Rodgers' supposed running mate HB (RS)Freshman Joe Lawson. Lawson showed some flashes of brilliance during mop-up duty and may end up splitting carries with Richardson. Charles is still the go-to WR, and still operates out of the slot. The Texas Tech defense is very similar to last year's, but the secondary is growing up, and true Freshman FS John McBride appears to be even better than advertised. Also, watch out for TTU's #3 HB and PR/KR specialist Joel Ball. He is just plain fast with the agility and acceleration to match.

The Red Raiders are looking at a very rough schedule this season, but they did catch a break considering all of their toughest games will be played in Lubbock.

    M. Rodgers
    19/26 310yd 4TD 0INT

    K. Richardson
    24ATT 138yd 2TD

    J. Lawson
    8ATT 31yd

    C. Charles
    5REC 128yd 1TD

    D. Harris
    4REC 51yd 2TD

    #22 Arizona 38 - #15 Clemson 14

This was a beat down from start to finish. The rumors of my demise might have been greatly exaggerated. This is a different Arizona team no question, but it's one that is a little more dynamic offensively with some different options and is better defensively than in previous seasons.

FR RB Tyrone Ferwerda, a former :2stars: prospect had a great debut carrying the rock 24 times, for 105 yards 3 TD, and catching 4 passes for another 60 yards and another TD. Tyrone gives us something we've never had here, and that is speed in the backfield. He split carries with JUCO transfer Joe Webb who carried 12 times for 50 yards and a TD. Joe is more of a power back and these two compliment each other well.

SR QB Cory Smith who transferred in from Texas had a pretty good debut going 18-25 for 265 0 TD and 1 Int. The Int though was a fluke play where the WR caught the ball was hit and the ball flew up into the air and was picked by a DL. He did make several really nice throws and executed a perfect option pitch for one of Ferwerda's rushing TD's. Smith is a very good athlete and might be the best player on the team.

The Defense played very, very well and looked very promising. Clemson connected on two long pass plays for about 100 yards total and managed a little over 100 yards of total offense other than those two pass plays. All told they put together 200 yards of offense and only managed to hold the ball for about 8 minutes.

If we play this way all year this is a 10 win team for sure.

Not sure, as Murk hasn't been around. We've still got 3 guys with games against the CPU. One is Iowa, and he's out until the 12th. Are we going to have someone play his games or is it just going to be simmed?

I'd be cool with someone playing for me. If no one wants to, then a sim is OK, too.

A&M dominates in season opener, faces big test next week

    1st 2nd 3rd 4th F
    NCSU 0 0 0 0 0
    A&M 21 28 7 0 56

The Big XII will be loaded this year and should be fun to watch the QB and HB numbers. Texas Tech boasts a great passing game, but Allen Bonner and the Aggies show they don't have to throw it that much and still get great production as he was 9 for 12 222 yards 4TDs today and rushing 2 times for 12 yards and a TD. Rob Bryant had 14 carries for 92 yards TD and Eric Mosley had 12 carries for 122 yards. The defense was led by 2nd team SS Brady Washington who collected 12 tackles in a quarter in a half of work .

Texas A&M will host Purdue and Coach Murk next week to try and right the only defeated handed to them last year.

    Purdue barely escapes Virginia

    Team 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Final
    Pur 7 6 0 7 20
    UVA 6 0 10 0 16

The offense had a very tough time getting things going, occasionally getting big plays out of TJ Smith, Brian Robinson, and Mike Pace. It seemed that a missed FG would come back to haunt them as they were down 3 in the 4th quarter, but the Boilermakers were able to take the lead with 2:44 left on a 16 yard TD run by Robinson.

The defense played pretty well - a lot of new faces. Redshirt Freshman defensive end Carl Love broke a school record for sacks in a game with 5, beating the previous record of 4 set in 1980.

Are you guys going to be able to get this in before Friday? Just wondered as the scheduling thread makes it look like the earliest you could play is Friday. Not trying to force anything, just wondering when game time is and when Murk wants the advance done, since it was previously done Sunday night at 10 EST.

I think that's Murk's call. Hopefully you can get things in tonight, though, so then it's a non-issue.

Perry and I cannot go tonight (we're like two ships passing in the night, we can tomorrow but its up to you all what we do, I'm fine with whatever.

Sorry about all of this (the last two weeks being last to play), but, its another reason I wish we'd had a scheduling thread as I was going to ask and plead for week 1 and 2 as bye's or CPU games b/c of my nutso schedule...alas that didn't happen so we deal with it and move on...

Can we wait till friday night for dakota and my game? If not I can get it in tonight if you put him on auto. I would like to play him though he is on a 24hr shift so he can't play tonight.

I'd prefer a sim as opposed to you playing the cpu, its the most fair seeing as we've both been available the past few days, just not at the same time

I say we go back to the 3 day hard advance after this week. We are going on night number 5 tonight and still have two game to be played.

If those games can be played tonight or tomorrow we can ride it out since we're in week 2 and people may not have been aware of their schedule and conflicts. However, for future weeks everyone should know when they have a user game and the scheduling should be easier.

    Thoughts?

yep. I say we wait. hard for me to complain when I've been the one that has held up the advance(s). and if it was me and my game, and I wanted to get it played I'd hope everyone else would be okay with it.

...but after this we should definitely go to some sort of hard advance :p

I think he was saying to wait for these two games, but that we shouldn't be going a week in real life to get a week in the season done. I didn't see anything from Murk regarding a hard advance, so I wasn't going to just advance it on my own. It's Murk's call as commish.

Jman, if I would have known you wanted byes for week 1 and 2, I would have done my best to get that in. If week 15 for the Big 12 wasn't the conference championship, things would have been much easier. Alas, it wasn't, so I had to schedule where I could fit things in the best. Since some squads only had 1 or 2 user games in conference, things were really out of whack. Once I found a schedule that got everyone at least 4 user games, I stuck with it. For future reference, if I'm putting the schedule together and you've got a request, feel free to PM me or post something on your own for scheduling requests.
