A Much-Needed WinTuscaloosa is buzzing following a 42-17 win over Michigan State.
Tuscaloosa- The Tide open the season with many question marks; particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Some of those questions are still unanswered, but thats a story for another day. The offense for Bama put up descent numbers, but the running game was dismal as far as the Coach is concerned. In previous season, The Coach had a runer he could depend on to get the job done. This season will be a little different, as The Tide will look to "Run by committee" due to each back offering different skill sets to help the offense move the ball. A good find in the game however was true freshman QB, Justin Smith. With starter Tim Jones struggling with consistency, Coach Forever pulled him in favor of Smith and he didn't disappoint. Smith ended the game completing 7 of his 8 passes for 133yds including a td pass early in the 4th quarter. Next up for The Tide, a battle with once conference foe Coach CA and his new look Nebraska Cornhuskers.

COLORADO WINS ROCKY MOUNTAIN SHOWDOWN IN OT
After last year's heartbreaking 3OT loss to rival Colorado State, Colorado had revenge on its mind. For the better part of 4 qtrs, it looked as if CU would get that. HB Brad Butler got the scoring started with a 5 yard TD run near the end of the 1st. The 2nd qtr saw the fireworks begin as the teams traded TD's and combined for 28 points. CU reestablished its run game in the third and kept the CSU offense off the field. A 6 yard TD run by HB Bennett gave the Buffs a 28-14 lead heading into the 4th.
CSU stormed back to tie the game with 18 seconds left to send the game to OT. CU was able to strike 1st with a 11 yard TD pass from Nelson to TE Ford and the D came up with 2 sacks to put CSU in a 4th and 23 hole. A 15 yard completion and immediate tackle sealed the deal for Colorado.
No rest for the Buffs as they must face #15 Oregon week 2.
Texas begins defense of Title with 44-10 victory
WR Brennan Bailey breaks away from a New Mexico defender
New Mexico had no shot versus the Longhorns today, as Texas was amped to start the season. Early on the Lobos took a 3-0 lead, but it wouldn't be long before Heisman Hopeful QB Jeff Tanner started working the NMU secondary. He's main target was 6'7" Freshman WR Brennan Bailey who caught 7 passes for a 138 on the afternoon. Despite his lack of speed, Bailey was easily the tallest guy on the field. It was a day for freshman on the offensive side of the ball. Freshman K Kevin Rhoden was 3/3 on the afternoon. The other freshman sensation HB Kenny Phillips scored twice on 8 carries in the second half. Phillips was a late addition to the Longhorn squad this past offseason. On defense, the stellar DE Marcus Hill led the way with 7 tackles, 1 sack and 1 FF. Hill led all NCAA last year with 14.5 sacks. Next up for Texas is a home game vs the Boise State Broncos..
