Mizzou overcomes mistakes to send FSU home with a loss

The Seminoles got the ball first and put together a nice drive as the Mizzou defense tried to adjust to the 4WR look the Noles would present all game. The drive culminated when Allen connected with Ramsour for a 33 yard strike after Ramsour beat the press. The tigers would stall on their first drive after getting to about midfield. A nice punt would give FSU the ball on the 11 yard line (very sportsmanlike decline of a fair catch interference call here by kapono). After a short pass play netted 3 yards the Tigers D would register a pair of sacks to force a punt in the shadow of the goalpost. With good field position, Mizzou would march down and Heisman frontrunner Nick Cannon would score on a 9 yard run, juking a corner at the 2 and throwing a safety down at the goalline to even up the score at 7-7 (highlight on the wire). FSU would drive deep into Missouri territory on the next possession, but Allen just couldnt get the ball off to his hot read on a fourth and 1 inside the ten, taking a sack from a big blitz from the Tigers. Mizzou would come right back at FSU after the big stop. After a long drive, Cannon would score again, this time from 8 yards out. It looked like the DE had a play after Cannon bounced off of a lineman on the draw play, but Nick would shrug off the big fella in the backfield and power through a pair of tacklers into the endzone. After another Noles punt Mizzou would connect on a 61 yard strike to give them a chance to extend the lead, but a William Ryan INT in the endzone would allow FSU to go into the break down just 7.

Mizzou got it first after halftime and used a methodical approach, grinding out yards before hitting an impressive 59 yard FG to give themselves a 10 point lead. After FSU offense once again failed to click, Mizzou would get it back again. Coming out with 2 TEs on a 2nd and 3, FSU expected another run from Cannon. What they got instead was a play action. Ryan would have plenty of time to hit Jake Carr on a deep post route for a 36 yard TD and a 24-7 lead late in the third (highlight on the wire). FSU, sensing that they wouldn't get many more chances, went full throttle with the no huddle, marching down the field more efficiently than they had since the early portion of the game. The Noles would get a number of excellent catches in traffic, the last of which was a 23 yard grab at the pylon by Fuller with the corner and safety all over him. The big play would make it 24-14 with just seconds left in the 3rd quarter. Mizzou would make a disastrous play on the first down of the final period. Ryan would hot read a slant pattern against cushion coverage, but a well disguised defensive call of man cover 2 resulted in an INT when the CB cut in front of the WR and made a play on the ball. With the momentum and the ball near midfield, FSU would go intentional grounding (not sure if this was a bad button press or what, but there was no option to decline), sack, incompletion. On 4th and 28 FSU would elect to put the ball back in Mizzous hands and put the game on the defenses shoulders. Mizzou was just too much on the ground though, gaining yards in chunks as time whittled away. The key play of the drive was a 2nd and 5 near midfield. From a Jumbo set Mizzou would go play action. The defenders were frozen, but the DT shrugged off the guard to get to Ryan, only the QB would somehow throw him to the ground. Scrambling, Ryan would make contact with a linebacker just past the LOS, but Ryan would bounce off of the big hit and keep his feet to gain 16 yards before sliding (highlight on the wire). A few plays later Nick Cannon would put the game all but out of reach with his 3rd rushing TD of the game. An FSU INT on their next drive would seal the deal.

GG Kapono , after those first two drives I thought I was going to be in for a long night on defense! Your WRs are really good, but lucky for me, my CB corps was up to the task and on balance probably got the best of your guys on the day.

    Key Stats:
    • FSU recorded no sacks, Mizzou would get 7
    • Nick Cannon was once again in beast mode, breaking tackles on nearly every touch, he would get 135 yards on 22 carries with 3 TDs and 42 yards receiving on 3 catches.
    • FSU was 1 of 7 on 3rd downs and 1 for 2 on fourth down tries.

Good game Wyrmreaver, the intentional grounding was throwing away on a screen pass that wasn't open, I just hoped they wouldn't call it. Cannon is my choice for Heisman so far.

But most importantly, we connected! ( Jayrah ) So I see a yearly battle with Missouri that I didn't have before

Mizzou spots UF 10 points then roars back for a win!

Florida got the ball first and seemed to have one thing in mind, keep Nick Cannon and the Mizzou offense off the field! Using a grinding drive with 6 first downs to open the game, the gators would eventually punch it in from the 1 with the FB to take a 7-0 lead after eating up over 6 minutes. The Gator's 4-2-5 would stifle Cannon early, holding him to just 34 yards in the first half. The Gators would ride the excellent play of their defense to a 10-0 lead with less than a minute until the break on a 53 yard FG. The Tigers knew they needed to get some momentum before the half and they set out to put some points on the board and get the home crowd back in the game. A few plays later they were near midfield with 20 seconds left. Ryan would drop back and have lots of time, but would face excellent coverage. Finally, sensing the rush pushing through the middle Ryan would scramble a few yards to his right to buy time when he would see TE Shannon Williams running down the field one on one. Ryan would let the ball loose and Williams would just plain outjump the safety to catch a 53 yard TD with 13 seconds left in the half, narrowing the Gators lead to 10-7 at the break.

On the opening possession of the second half, fifth year senior QB William Ryan would once again come up big. On 2nd and 13 after a big loss by Cannon, Ryan would keep a read option play and work upfield. Making a great read on his blockers, Ryan would find space and, after shrugging off a tackle in the secondary he would be off to the races, going 61 yards before being dragged out of bounds at the 1. Cannon would score on the next play, bouncing off of a linebacker behind the line in order to keep chugging for a 1 yard score and a 14-10 lead, the Tiger's first of the game. After forcing a Florida punt, the William Ryan heroics would continue. Reading that Florida was once again selling out to keep a lid on Cannon, Ryan audibled to a pass, sending Jake Carr on a go route against a corner all alone on the outside. Ryan would make a pretty throw and even though Carr was well covered, the corner wouldn't be able to make a play on the ball and Carr would catch it in stride and race in for a 60 yard TD strike to extend the lead to 21-10. Florida would get something going on offense for the first time in the second half, but QB Chauncey Gay, filling in for the injured David Arrington, would throw the ball into coverage deep where SS Greg Tate would come away with an INT. The Tigers would turn to the running game and move the chains a couple times before getting stopped just past midfield.

A touchback would give UF the ball down 11 with plenty of time (4 minutes) to get back in the game. On first down, DE Omar Sutton would shrug off the tackle and make a big sack, his second on the day and 13th on the year. On second down DT Rodney Dickerson would barrel through for a sack at the 3 yard line before the QB could get off the pass. On third down Florida would try to take advantage of the aggressive pass rush with a screen, but Omar Sutton would read the play beautifully and drag down the HB as he cought the ball in the endzone for a safety, extending the lead to 23-10. A couple plays later Nick Cannon would race for a 39 yard TD to put the game out of reach at 30-0.

GG SatansAngel1104 , that jump ball by my TE to close out the half seemed to really shift the momentum. see you next season :)

    Key Stats:
UF had 136 yards of offense, 75 of it came on the opening drive.
Mizzou QB Ryan completed all 8 of his pass attempts for 158 yards and a pair of TDs plus had the big run that set up the go ahead TD.
Mizzou was 0 of 4 on third down attempts, so the real problem for the Gators was apparently stopping them on 2nd down.

    Arkansas Hangs on for Victory

Both teams first drives ended on goalline stands with qb's unable to complete passes to RBs in the flat. After the first drive the razorback offense struggled, with only one TD drive which benefited from blown zone coverage on a 50 pass. Florida opened the second half with a long TD drive to tie the game at 10. Arkansas added a FG to take a 3 point lead and both teams traded punts and turnovers until Florida ended up with the ball down 3 with just under 2 minutes to play. Arkansas CB Gibson stepped infront of a crossing route and ran through a couple tackles for the 41 yard game sealing Pick 6.

After 4 CPU wins following the Arky loss, it was time to get down to business against an underachieving, but clearly super talented LSU team.

Aggies Hold On In Death Valley for Huge Win

In a classic defensive battle in the rain, Texas A&M held on with 3 "goal line" stands for a 4 point victory. The final stand was ended at the 15, but it was a goal to go situation as the clock was ticking down and LSU had used all of its' timeouts just to get to that point. On the drive LSU drove about 45 yards but had a crucial drop on the sidelines just inside the 10 on a corner route that would've given them plenty of time to run their normal pass sets. Instead they barely converted a first down and had to scramble to get in 3 plays in 15 seconds.

The game was a back and forth affair that had both teams in agony several times before the final gun. A&M began with a 4th down conversion to the FB for a touchdown after it looked like they had clearly broke the plane twice on previous plays. LSU would kick a FG and then get the ball back and drive to the 1 (where it looked like their receiver broke the plane but was denied by the officials with 1 second remaining). The play resulted in a first down but LSU was out of timeouts here as well and had to rush a play. The throw from Patrick Holly was nearly intercepted and returned the other way, but as happened much of the evening, it ended in a drop to end the half.

In the second half LSU would drive again after receiving the kick, but an interception would end the threat. It was the first of two costly second half Holly picks. The defense would pick him up though with a little help from A&M receivers, who had receivers drop a couple of passes that may have ended up in the endzone and a big holding penalty that brought back a 30 yard gain. At any rate LSU would finally capitalize after a fumble recovery on a busted screen play. The offense would take four downs inside the 5 but finally a scrambling Holly found his HB West for the go-ahead TD.

Then A&M responded, as dual threat HB Holland made his only 3 catches of the game, accounting for 69 yards on the drive and catching LSU in a big blitz attempt on 3rd and 5 with a 34 yard screen play down the right sidelines for 6. Wit 4:15 to go, LSU would drive the length, down the the Aggie 6, but failed on 4th down as a diving receiver couldn't come up with the pass in the back of the endzone. It was unclear whether or not a DB got a hand on the ball but it fell to the turf. A&M would come up inches short of sealing the game however, and with about a minute to play the Tigers tried again. After the 3rd down drop by the LSU receiver at the 4 as time expired, the Aggies rushed the hostile turf and took home the sweetest victory they've had in at least 5 seasons.

GG MexiRican35 just too many drops by your guys. My DBs dropped about 8 ints too, but in the end it was you who came up one catch short.

#2 Missouri holds on for a close win over #3 Texas A&M

The Aggies came to Columbia in the middle of a snowstorm to take on the Tigers. An Aggies win would likely vault them into the National Title game despite missing out on the conference title game. Missouri would have to play Arkansas in the SEC championship either way, but a win would keep their dreams of a national title alive as well.

Mizzou got it first but was forced to punt. TAMU would put together a nice drive before settling for a redzone FG. The Tigers would respond in kind on the final play of the first quarter to make the game 3-3. On the ensuing kickoff, Stanley Holland would get a nice block and bounce outside before racing 103 yards for a TD and a 10-3 lead for his team. Mizzouri would face a 2nd and 2 on their 36 on the next drive. Coming out with 3 TEs and only 1 WR, the Tigers correctly guessed that TAMU would bring a big rush blitz, keying on Nick Cannon. Jake Carr would run a sweet curl, make the corner miss after the catch and race 64 yards to even un the game at 10-10. After an Aggies punt near midfield, William Ryan would go 5-6 passing in the final 2 minutes, marching his team downfield before Nick Cannon punched in the go ahead TD from the 2 yard line with just 10 ticks left until the break.

Down 17-10, TAMU would get the ball to start the second half. A few plays into the drive, Muhammed would drop back for a quick pass and get drilled by a blitzing linebacker, but somehow he would keep his feet! Then he would coolly hit a WR on a slant who would make a nifty move in the open field and take it to the house for a 62 yard score. Once they got it back, Mizzou would take the lead again. This time with a FG from 49 yards out to make it 20-17. The Aggies would fail to get anything going on their next drive and be forced to punt. Mizzou HB Scott Sullivan would field the kick, set up his blocks and then just flat outrun the kick coverage for a 71 yard PR TD to give his team a 10 point lead! Muhammed would answer with a 68 yard strike off of play action to give his team a first and goal at the Mizzou 6. Muhammed would hit the HB on the checkdown after reading the blitz, but FS Brian Carter would come up and lay the wood on Holland, forcing a fumble and stealing points from the Aggies. Despite the hostile crowd, TAMU wouldn't panic. They would hit on a 34 yard TD strike early in the fourth to make it a 27-24 game. Mizzou would use the next drive to nearly break the TAMU spirit. A methodical, ball control drive would take the clock from 6:44 all the way to less than 2 minutes before they faced a 4th and inches inside the 5. Looking to put the game away once and for all, the Tigers went for it, but TAMU came up huge with a stop! The Aggies would try and trick the Tigers with a sreen play from the shadow of the goal post (they clearly didnt read the Mizzou Florida recap) but Holland would get drug down for a 7 yard loss just outside the endzone. After a short completion it was third and long. Muhammed would drop into his own endzone, sensing pressure from his right he would drift left right into the arms of the DE for a safety! TAMU would get one more possession with 10 seconds remaining, but a Greg Tate interception dashed their slim hopes of a miracle.

GG Jayrah it seemed like the biggest plays that went against you were the big hit fumble I put on you at the 10 and then the safety. You would get a stop and score after the fumble, but I stole time with the turnover which you would need later..... the Safety obviously all but ended things, there were only 10 ticks left when you got it back with 80 yards between you and a win, plus a FG wouldn't help after the 2 points.

    Key Stats
    Rushing Yards:
    • Mizzou had 99..... only 3 yards a carry, but enough success to force TAMU to continue to press the line and overload the strong side, the Aggies consistently shifted their defense around trying to key on Nick Cannon. While this mostly worked to slow him down, it opened them to get gouged off of some quick passes and screen plays.
    • TAMU had just 12 rushing attempts (4 sacks and 1 scramble, so 7 called run plays) for minus 30 yards. Ultimately, the Aggies inability to run made them too one dimensional.

Tigers Fall Flat On Offense to Fall 20-13

What a game it was in College Station, another classic Auburn vs TAMU matchup that came down to the last possession. The Aggies went on the board first and actually looked like they might run away early with a 10-0 start and an interception to set them back up in Auburn territory.

Matt Davis took the first pass of the game 65 yards to set the Aggies up for a Muhammad to Townsend 4 yard touchdown. Then a defensive stop and a field goal, then the pick. But Auburn would get a break as Holland would run into the back of his own player and then get crushed and lose the ball. The Tigers would respond with a FG before taking the momentum by scoring again just before halftime and taking the 10-10 tie.

In the 3rd Auburn would score on a FG but squandered a couple of chances to take control of the game while the Aggie defense came up enough times to hold it at 3. Then 2 ints by Auburn in the 4th qtr would change the game entirely. The first led to an Aggie td drive as Holland finally ran in from 3 yards out. After a stop and a long drive that ended on the 1 with 2 minutes, TAMU kicked a FG and let their defense win it for them. An interception with 35 seconds remaining would end all hopes for Auburn and put A&M clearly in an advantageous position for a BCS berth.

GG recchem2000 Another classic. Both teams had unawareness haunt them in this one, but your qb was all over the map while mine was 15-17.

What a game this was. The 2 mistakes I made were missing that wide open TE on the fumble and not stepping up in the endzone. Not sure the lack of running hurt me actually as much as you thought. But your LE is a beast and he gave me problems on the biggest plays of the game. The miss of the TE for example was because he was rushing me. GG hope I can stick in a BCS slot.

GG man. My QB play was terrible in this one. He's garbage on the road. The 4 picks doomed me.
