    Here we go!

Stories to follow for Blue Raiders success this season..

Will a QB emerge between Stockstill and Grammar?
Will a receiver step up? Or 2.

And just like that Army takes the opening drive down field for 6...looks like sophomore Austin Grammer will take first snaps at QB for MTSU. He is the less athletic, better passer of the 2.

MTSU will fall in week 1 at Army, 28-17.

Not really sure... We didn't play bad. We started slow, but came back and took the lead before blowing it in the 4th. Hats off to Army. Brent Stockstill played a terrific game and will start next week. We need to make a couple changes on the defensive side of the ball, but I feel we aren't too far away from putting it together.

AMHERST, Mass --- Kent State came out of the gates with their guns blazing to start the 2014 season. On their opening drive, the Golden Flashes marched down the field for a game-opening touchdown and then took a page out of Oregon's playbook and went for the two-point conversion. The conversion was successful and Kent State put the early pressure on the Minutemen.

UMass marched down the field themselves and matched the Kent State touchdown just a few minutes later. They even went for two and tied the score negating the early risk by Kent State coach Michael Austin.

The game was back-and-forth most of the first half with each team seemingly scoring at will and the Golden Flashes clung to a 25-21 lead.

Defense took over in the second half and each team had their struggles at times. Kent State forced two UMass turnovers in the second half which helped hold their high powered passing offense at bay. In the end, Kent State was able to hold the Minutemen on a 4th-and-one late in the game to preserve the 8 point win. A fitting margin considering the opening drive.

Freshman QB Nic Buckley was impressive in his debut throwing for 135 yards and two scores. He also looked good running the option twice picking up first downs with his legs.

The Golden Flash defense answered a lot of questions by holding UMass to 53 yards on 15 carries. They adjusted well in the second half and JUCO tarnsfer Steve Holmes set the pace at middle linebacker.

Anthony Meray erased many memories of Dri Archer with an outstanding 209 yard performance returning kicks including a 74-yard return. He also added two rushing touchdowns.

Next week Kent State will come home for a matchup with Colorado State and head coach guayo10.

Nothing to see here. EMU was manhandled the who game by Idaho. EMU couldn't stop Idaho's offense one bit. The only thing good to come out of this game is freshman QB Brogan Roback played the 2nd half and threw for 3 TD's. I think EMU has found their new starting QB for the next four years. Things need to drastically change if EMU wants to make a bowl game this year.

The Illini controlled the game throughout but it was never easy. This team will have to improve alot to get a win next week vs NIU. Red shirt Freshman QB Aaron Bailey has earned playing time and may start vs NIU also look for Junior RB Josh Ferguson to get some work. 2.3 yards per aint gonna cut it in the big 10. Alot of recruiting work has to be done to get this roster up to Big 10 caliber. I did not realize how far behind Illinois is roster wise.

    Knights Slay Panthers
The Panthers were poised to start the season with a roar, proving they were over the devastating loss to FSU in the Beef O'Brady Bowl. FIU wanted to prove they can compete with the other Florida schools. That would not be the case as the UCF Knights would impose their will and dominate the Panther for 3 quarters. The Panthers were forced to go away from their staple of power running and air it out. Medlock was rattled early and ended the day with 3 INTs. The Panther defense couldn't protect their home field as the Knights would score at will.

Temple Shocks Penn State at University Park 21 - 9
Temple opened their second season under Head Coach Matt Rhule and it is safe to say the plan is falling in line. Temple opened the game with a methodical drive that ended with a Touchdown. Then, after a couple of Penn State first downs, Tavon Young picked off a deep pass from Hackenberg. This set up another Temple Touchdown early in the 2nd. Another tough stand by the Owls defense allowed set up for another long drive to put Temple up 21 to 0 at the half. Temple was able to hold on to the lead, only allowing a FG in the 3rd and a late TD in the 4th.

The whole team clicked throughout the game. Kenny Harper had his usual performance, rushing for 120 yards on 28 attempts. Connor Reily showed tremendous improvement in his passing game. He ended the night with 8/10 for 96 yards with 2 TDs. Not stellar numbers, but he did not making any mistakes throwing the ball as he was known for last season. Also, this passing performance came against one of the tougher defenses the Owls will face this season. New addition to the recieving corps, Avery Williams, caught a pass for a TD and looks to be a great addition.

The Defense stayed tough forcing two INT's and a sack. Amazingly, they did not allow the Nittany Lions 1 third down conversion.

    STAY..... UNCLASSY?

A lot of controversy surrounding UNLV this week. The first game back from coach Bubba Gump after being quoted " We will be MWC contenders next year" he runs up the score. While he backed up his words, he raised a lot of eyebrows around the nation, especially that one of UNLV AD Tina Kunzer-Murphey. She sat Gump down and had a strong come to Jesus talk. Sources are reporting that she said one more incident like this and he will be gone.this isn't Southlake High School football anymore. She noted the season opening win was just what the campus needed, but no games will be tolerated. Gump said it would not happen again. Nonetheless, half the nation will be watching UNLV next week as they take on Washington St. Everyone is wondering how coach Gump will respond.

Nick Sherry was mentioned by Kirk Herbstriet this week. Herby said this wasn't the same nick sherry we saw last year. 205 yards and 5 TD's he's looking to make an impact. The Rebels had 523 Total yards with 304 coming on the ground. Bubba Gump has always preferred the run game. That's why a lot of HB's want to play for him. Leading the rushing attack was sophomore QB Jared Lebowitz as he options his was to 119 yards. Bubba Gump's dual quarterback system is looking good. Senior QB Adonis Smith has some big shoes to fill after powerhouse Tim Cornett graduated. He was on a great tear with 10 carries for 74 yards and a score before he left the game with an injury. It will most likely keep him out of week 2's game. Gump said it won't hurt them though as backup HB Niko Kapeli went 6 carries for 71 yards and a score in place of smith in week 1. The Rebels defense was rated one of the worst in the league but they stayed strong and got 1 INT from senior ROLB Perry Cooper. The D-Line got to the quarterback 3 times as well. The standout on defense was definitely junior SS Peni Vea who had 9 tackles 3 for loss, and 1 sack. Coach Gumpmismgoing to try Vea at corner because Vea has been wanting to try and it makes room for freshman FS Frank Williams which everyone is expecting to have a great career. Lets see if the Rebels can keep up the momentum, and everyone is waiting to see how Coach Gump will respond to all the controversy.
