Bubba Gump's Rebels come into Fresno, in what would end up being one monster of a game. Everyone and their mother picked the bulldogs to walk away easily, but fate wasn't on the bulldogs side. UNLV would go on to strike first when they get down to the 1 yard line, and junior quarterback Nick Sherry pounds it in behind his huge lineman. Fresno strikes down the field and would ultimately end up scoring on a 2 yard run from Brian Burrell. UNLV would take the next two scores, both on 21 yard runs from Sophmore QB Jared Lebowitz, and Sophmore HB Niko Kapeli. With 2 minutes leftin the half, Fresno sets out, goes down the field and ends up scoring on a 25 yard from Josh Quezada. The score is 21-14 with 1:35 left in the 2nd, and Coach Gump wasn't happy going into the half only 7 up. He sends Sherry out, and he throws an INT on the first play, setting up Fresno with great field position. Brian Burrell immediately comes out and throws a 37 yard strike. The half would end 21-21. At the half Coach Gump was interviewed going into the lockeroom and he said defense would need to tighten up if they were going to pull away with the win.

UNLV starts the 2nd half with an INT from Sherry again, but luckily the defense holds. The next Rebels drive, Sherry throws his 3rd straight pick, and Coach Gump decides to take the ball out of Sherry's hands. He calls a majority of run plays after the 3rd INT. The only score in the 3rd would come from an 8 yard run from Niko Kapeli. 18 seconds into the 4th quarter Brian Burrell scores on a 1 yard run, tieing it up 28-28. After a well sustained drive Niko Kapeli scores from a yard out for his 3rd rushing touchdown of the game. Fresno ties it up once again with an 11 yard connection from Burrell to Marteze Walker leaving 3:52 left in the 4th. Coach Gump decides if he's going to win, he has to trust Sherry. He gives Sherry the ok to sling the ball again, and Sherry ends up connecting to Anthony Williams from 7 yards out to go up 42-35 with 1:07 left. Fresno takes it down the field, and runs an out route and gets outs of bounds with 8 seconds left from the 6 yard line. No timeouts, they hike the ball, and Senior RE, impact player, Jordan Sparkman sacks Burrell and the clock runs out for Fresno. UNLV escapes with a win in hostile territory, and they are booming with momentum going into the Hawaii game next week.

Sherry has his worst game statistically going 16/22 183 yards, 1 TD and 3 INT. The ground game is what got Coach Gump and the raiders through this week:

Nick Sherry QB: 9 rushes, 70 yards, 1 TD
Niko Kapeli HB: 6 rushes, 61 yards, 3 TD
Adonis Smith HB: 22 rushes 118 yards
Jared Lebowitz QB: 9 rushes, 105 yards, 1 TD

The standout defensivly for UNLV was Senior RE Jordan Sparkman, on the only play he made. He tallied a tackle, TFL, Sack, and FF all on one play while winning the game for UNLV.

UNLV moves to 5-2, and 3-0 in the conference, and they are shocking the nation. Coach Gump has already guaranteed a win vs Hawaii, and the campus is booming for these boys.

    BREAKING NEWS
Breaking news coming out of Las Vegas. It appears Coach Gump has made a starting roster move. So far through 9 weeks, Senior Adonis Smith has been UNLV's main back. Well Gump said he's going to start Sophmore Niko Kapeli from here. Niko Kapeli is a 5'8 206 pound back from Las Vegas. He typically runs with Jared Lebowitz in UNLV's option formations. He has shown great poise and heart when on the field. Coach Gump trusts him to take the whole workload. When you put the backs stats against each other you can see why this decision was made:

    Adonis Smith: 81 attempts, 429 yards, 5.3 avg, 2 TD, 2 fumbles, long 28, 4 rec, 50 yards, 1 TD, 1 drop, long 27
    Niko Kapeli: 91 attempts, 538 yards, 5.9, 7 TD, 1 fumble, long 42, 3 rec, 70 yards, 0 drops, long 34

The Rebels are 5-2 and on the way to a record season, and wise men always say don't fix what's not broken, but as we know Coach Gump is one who demands the most out of his team, and he believes this will give him more production. This won't be the last of Adonis Smith. Gump will find a way to keep him in the mix because he needs Smith's leadership on the field. Only time will tell if this move was for the best.

Looks like MTSU dropped another road game to fall to 3-4 on the seasoning and 1-2 in Confernce USA play. The Blue Raiders fell to the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss 39-29. MTSU dug itself in a 21-0 hole after 1 quarter and couldn't get out of it.

MTSU is now 3-0 at home on the year and 0-4 on the road. In order to get to a 2nd bowl game in as many seasons for Coach Hickerson's squad, they will have to buck this trend but it will not be easy next week as they travel to 1 loss Marshall to take on the Thundering Herd.
