SEC Championship game UT 41 vs Auburn 14 The game started out with UT getting the ball and driving down the field only to bog down and kick a FG. We would kick off to Auburn and they would try and throw on third down, we would hit the QB which would become a common occurance on the day he would throw the ball str8 up in the air and UT FS would pick it off and run it in for six. 10-0 UT. Auburn would put a nice drive together and would finalize it with a nice TD run from Whitaker. 10-7 UT. Before the end of the first qtr Oku would take a pitch a burn around the corner and take the ball 52 yards for a td. 17-7 UT at the end of one. The second qtr would see each team put a 7 up. Tenn FB Johnson would take a pass and run over a couple defenders for an 11 yard td. Auburn qb Rollison would find Ratliff from 15 yards out for a nice td. At the Half its UT 24 and Auburn 14. In the third qtr both defenses would take control and only a Tenn FG by Fields would be added. 27-14 UT heading to the fourth qtr. The fourth qtr was controlled by the Tenn D who would shut Auburn out in the second half force turnovers and get some sacks. The Tennesee O would put up two scores in qtr four. Keyes would net a TD after Oku left the game and Senior FB Johnson would get a rare TD to finish out the scoring. A common theme was our ability to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. We had pressure with our front four on passing downs and had shown the ability to hold the Auburn run game in check. On O our oline blocked very well in the run game and managed to hold up pretty well against a fierce Auburn pass rush only allowing Stephens to be sacked once. He also only tossed one pick in the game. The constant pressure from the Tennesee Dline caused four picks two by Rollison before he was knocked out of the game with a broken collar bone and two by the youngster Hamilton. Our ability to control the line of scrimmage lead to us being able to control the ball and the clock as we outgained Auburn 237-43 on the ground. Auburn was able to pass the ball for 192 yds to our 166 but they were in catch up mode much of the second half while we were content to play it safe and grind away with our run game. The turnover battle was won by UT 4-2 as we tossed a pick and lost a fumble and Auburn threw 4 picks. We sacked Auburn QBs 7 times all coming from our Dline and were only sacked once. UT wins this one 41-14. POG on O was David Oku who managed 160 yds and a td. POG on D was Montori Hughes DT who had 6 tackles, 3 for loss and 3 sacks. Tennesee is your back to back SEC Conference Champions and advance to our second BCS title game in two years. GG Mike.
