The Washington Nationals scored 5 runs in the first inning as Clayton Kershaw looked like he was still stuck in Spring Training allowing 9 hits, 7 earned in only 4 innings worked. Cristian Guzman came out on fire going 4-6 with a HR and Ivan Rodriguez drove in four while going 3-5. John Lannan scattered 6 hits but the Dodgers scored six runs while the Nats were trying to leave him out on the hill for the win which he did earn.

The Nationals and Dodgers tangle again in Washington.

Los Angeles, CA - The Los Angelese Dodgers pulled together to capture game 2 of the series against the Nationals. The Dodgers scored a quick 2 runs in the first off of Jason Marquis. Starting Pitcher Chad Billinhsley gave up 1 run in the 1st but then buckled down and threw 8 scoreless innings. Both pitchers did well throughout the game with both teams scattering hits but never pushing a few runs across. With 78 pitches in the 8th, Coach Noles opted to leave in Jason Marquis who gave up 4 runs. This gave the Dodgers the confidence to close the game out in the 9th. Billingsley earned player of the game throwing a complete game in his first start this season giving up only 1 earned run and 7 hits. The Dodgers did well at the plate with notable performances by Rafael Fucal who went 2-5 with 2 runs and Manny Ramirez who went 2-3 with 1 run, 1 HR, and 3 RBI's. Manny went 4 for 7 in the series with 3 runs, 4 RBI's, and 2 HR's. Good series Noles!

    Twins beat Angels 5-4

TWINS WIN IN THE TOP OF THE 9TH!

Twins get their 1st victory of the year by knocking off the Los Angeles Angels. A tough 1st test for the Twins but they managed to get it done. After being manhandled through 6 innings and facing a 4-1 deficit, Hardy sparked the offense with a single up the middle. Which then had a domino effect resulting in 3 runs to tie the game. Top of the 9th, Jim Thome shows why the Twins brought him in, getting a solo HR to take the lead, 5-4. Controversy would spell the bottom of the 9th as the Angels, looking at a loss with a man on 1st and 2 outs. Howie Kendrick would blast a for sure looking hit up the middle but it hit Joe Nathan causing the ball to drift back to Joe Mauer. Mauer would throw Kendrick out leading the Twins to a 5-4 victory. Jesse Crain would get the win and Joe Nathan gets his 1st save.

Cubs land an opening day victory off the arm of Zambrano and the bats of Soriano, Lee and Ramirez. Ramirez would have the first score of the game with a long ball in the basket of left field. After the astros tie the game on a Manzelli double. Soriano would come to the plate with a guy on 1st and 2nd hits a standing double scoring two. That would be all the cubs would need as the astros would score only one more run on Berkmans solo homerun in the top of the 8th. Lee would belt his own in the bottom of the 8th. Zambrano would get the 9th 3 up and 3 down to win this one

6.2 innings of solid pitching with 10 strike outs by Zack Greinke and a 2-3 night from David DeJesus lead the Kansas City Royals to a 7-4 victory on Opening Day at Yankee stadium.

Jose Guillen got the scoring started for the Royals in the 4th inning with a two run shot to left field. The Royals took a 6-2 lead when Alex Gordon drove in 3 runs with an RBI single in the 5th. David DeJesus later added a solo home run. Joakim Soria came on in the 9th for the Royals to slam the door and secure the victory. Next on the schedule are the Boston Red Sox.

    Good Battle Cimmy.

Peavy and Rios lead White Sox to Opening Day victory over the Indians

Jake Peavy and Alex Rios got the White Sox off to a good start, leading the club to a 6-2 victory over the Indians. Peavy threw 7 strong innings, allowing only a 2-run HR by Asdrubal Cabrera. Rios was the surprise of the day. He hit 2 opposite field homers and drove in 4 runs, as well as throwing out Grady Sizemore trying to tag up from 2nd to 3rd. The most unusual part of the game was the back-to-back homers by Rios and Mark Teahen off of Fausto Carmona. Relievers J.J. Putz and Matt Thornton finished the game for the Sox.

Rangers Sweep Opening Series with Mariners

    Game 1:
The Rangers go on the road to Seattle to open up the season, and Scott Feldman showed exactly why the Rangers had so much faith in him going into the season, and just why he was named the opening day starter. Feldman pitched a complete game, allowing only 1 run, getting 6 Ks in the process.

The Rangers offense took over from there. Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a perfect opening day, going 4-4 and driving in 2 RBI's. Rookie Julio Borbon started his case for AL Rookie of the Year by going 2-5 with 1 HR, 2 RBI and 1 SB. Also hitting a homerun for the Rangers was 2B Ian Kinsler with a solo shot. The only Ranger not coming up with a hit in this game was Nelson Cruz.

    Game 2:
The Rangers offense was on fire in game 2, getting to Cliff Lee, and then deep into the Mariner bullpen. Hamilton, Kinsler and company were on fire, hanging up 13 runs and giving plenty of run support to the youngster, Derek Holland, on the mound. Holland went 7 innings allowing 4 runs.

The offense had his back though, with Hamilton going 3-5 and a double short of the cycle. Cruz and Young both had 4 hits. Everybody contributed offensively, with the only Ranger not getting a hit was Salty, but he did have a sacrifice fly, and the only Ranger not driving in a run was Chris Davis.

Next, the Rangers go to Detroit to face the Tigers. The Rangers will have Tommy Hunter on the mound for that one, and looking to keep the bats going.

    Halladay Dominate On Opening Day

Roy Halladay proved he is worth that paycheck. The right hander recorded 13 strikeouts in a complete game shut out on opening day, 2-0. Arizona's D.Haren tried to keep pace with the former Cy Young winner but his offense couldn't bring one across against Halladay. Halladay even helped his cause by knocking in a run. Patience at the plate was a problem for both teams as they combined for 25 strikeouts.

    GG dbackfan, great pitcher's duel

Will update once I get home, still can't copy LD's stat page.

    Molina leads Giants over Braves
    GIANTS WIN!!!
4-2 win for Lincecum and Giants
GIANTS ESCAPE HOTLANTA WITH A 4-2 WIN!!!!

The San Francisco Giants took their opener with a 4-2 win over the Atlanta Braves. Reigning Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum was hardly great but managed to pitch 6.1 innings and got the win. The first batter he faced, Nate McLouth took him deep to right field for a round tripper. Lincecum settled and fanned 4 none bigger than sitting down Chipper Jones in the 5th with runners in scoring position. He got Jones with a 3-2 fastball and the inning ended with a 3-2 Giants advantage.

Bengie Molina was the offensive star for the Giants he went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a solo geico homerun in the 6th.

The Giants bullpen held the Braves scoreless, setting up Brian Wilson to strike out the side in the 9th for the save.
