    TWINS ROLL AGAINST YANKS!

    Is he back?

The Minnesota Twins improved to 2-0 on the year as they faced off against the New York Yankees. Great hitting and good pitching was key to this win. There was much doubt to the coach's decision to start Francisco Liriano against the pin striped punks. It paid off as he went 5.2 innings with only 2 hits and 5 strikeouts. Early on he looked like the old Francisco, making hitters look delirious. The Twins got some help from the bullpen though as Liriano faded away in the 5th. Matt Guerrier & Jon Rauch picked up the slack in the later innings allowing 5 hits and getting 4 strikeouts. On the offensive side, 7/9 Twin's batters managed record a hit. Joe Mauer & J.J. Hardy nailed HR's. Hardy's HR was the devastating blow as he racked in 3 RBI's.

    Hamels, Phils Blank Giants

San Francisco, CA- If the top of the rotation pitches like this, the NL pennant will once again reside in Philadelphia. Philadelphia's Cole Hamels threw a 3 hit shutout as the Phils silenced the Giants' bats, 4-0. Jimmy Rollins would go 2-4 with two RBIs as the Phils jumped all over Giants starter in the early going. With a nice 4 run cushion by the end of the fourth, Hamels was in a zone and completely in control. Hamels would strike out 9 and kept the Giants hitters guessing all afternooon.

"He pitched a helluva game." Phils skipper JerzeyReign said. "If he gives us that effort, along with Roy, we'll be in good shape."

The Phillies now travel back home to open up Citizens Bank Park against the same Giants team.

    Pirates beat Padres 4-1

McCutchen inside the park HR sparks Pittsburgh

Andrew McCutchen opened the score with an inside the park HR in the top off the 3rd. Padres would answer right back, as Will Venable hits a single in between the 3rd baseman and the SS to get Evereth Cabrera home for the score. After that, it was a pitching duel as both Kevin Hart and Kevin Correia played strong. In the top of the 8th, San Diego manager probably let Correia in there too long as he allowed two more runs. RP Webb comes in and gives up one more run. From there, Pittsburgh pitching staff did the job to secure the win for the Pirates, their first of the year.

    Polanco, Victorino Power Phils

Philadelphia, PA- In Philadelphia's home opener the Philles took to familiar form as they came from behind to beat the Giants 6-3. Down 2 for most of the game thanks to a Bengie Molina two run shot in the first the Phils started getting to Giants' starter Barry Zito.

"I just told the guys to keep being patient, sooner or later he'll make a mistake." Phils skipper JerzeyReign said afterwards.

Their patience finally paid off in the 5th inning as a Placido Polanco solo HR cut the Giants lead in half, 2-1. After the Giants scored another run in the top of the sixth the Phils stormed back during the bottom half to knot the score at 3. After Joe Blanton plunked Molina (and was ejected) the Phils needed a big boost from their bullpen.

"I really wasn't trying to hit him. Who would hit a guy in that situation?" Blanton said about his ejection. The umpires made the right call as Philadelphia plunked 5 batters all together. The Giants weren't angels themselves as their staff hit two Philadelphia batters.

A 3 run 7th inning by the Phitans put this one outta reach as Romero and Lidge breezed through the 8th and 9th innings to close this one out.

The Phillies improve to 3-0 on the year and their next series will be against division foes, the Washington Nationals.

Yeah I haven't played 'em with my Phils yet and I've corrected some mistakes I've made against him. It should be a very fun and competitive series.

    Webb wins in debut return

Drew's two-run homer starts hot bats

Phoenix, AZ - The Diamondbacks prevailed for their first win of the 2010 season. A hot start in the first inning overshadowed Brandon Webb's return to the mound. Thanks to Stephen Drew's two-run homer to right, off a hanging breaking ball by Brett Myers (0-1), the Snakes jumped to a 2 run lead. Later in the inning Kelly Johnson added a run off his double and Chris Young tacked on two more from his single. Myers settled down after the shaky inning retiring 5 straight, until Mark Reynolds hit a solo blast in the third. In the 5th inning the Astros rallied of Drew's error, scoring 3 runs , 2 off Carlos Lee's two out double. The Astros were able to add two more runs in the 7th and 8th inning, making it 6-5. Known for his flare for the dramatic, Chad Qualls started the 9th inning with a walk to Kazuo Matsui. Then gave up a single to Lee. With 2 on and no outs, Qualls struck out Hunter Pence on a 3-2 fastball. Pedro Feliz flied to center, moving Matsui to 3rd. With thetying run 90 feet away, Geoff Blum struck out on a 1-2 slider ending the game.

    Cubs play longball

Cubs signing of Nady proves to be big. Cubs go yard 5 times in Milwaukee. Fontenot and Nady both went long ball twice and Lee went yard once. It was a game where the Cubs bats were clicking as they score 16 runs on 21 hits. Ramirez added 2 doubles and 2 rbis. Player of the game was Nady as he went 3-5 2hrs and 5 rbis. Dempster had a decent start in his first game going 6 innings allowing 8 hits and 4 runs while striking out 10 to earn his first win of the year. Berg came in and closed the door getting the save on 3 great innings allowing only one hit.

IT'S NOT OVER TIL IT'S OVER!
The LA Dodgers put up 4 runs in the Top of the 9th to get the win 6-3

Manny Ramirez blasted 2 HR's against the Mets putting his season total at 4.

The Los Angeles Dodgers put together a hell of a comeback against all odds in New York. With a 3-2 lead the Mets brought in their veteran close Francisco Rodriguez to shut the door. The Dodgers had other ideas as they pushed across 4 runs, 2 of which came from a two run blast from Manny Ramirez.

LA was led offensively with a exceptional showing of hitting, putting together 17 hits. 5 players had multiple hits. Most notably Matt Kemp (3-5), James Loney (3-5), Manny Ramirez (3-5), and Andre Ethier (2-5). This middle of the lineup played solid, showing why they are a feared 3-6 lineup to face. Offensive Player of the Game goes to Manny Ramirez.

The Dodgers looked towards Vicente Padilla on the hill and he delivered an average day throwing 7 innings and allowing 3 runs to cross the plate. The win went to Hong-Chin Kuo who threw 2 solid innings late, which held the door shut for the offense. Close Jonathan Broxton came in and did quick work getting the save.

The Mets had received great support from Starting Pitcher Mike Pelfrey who threw 7 innings only giving up 1 earned run. Relievers Calero and Rodriguez gave up 5 runs in the remaining 2 innings. The Mets offensive was relatively quiet but received production from Fernando Tatis and Jeff Francouer who both had 2 hits and an RBI.

The Los Angeles Dodgers (2-1) will now travel back home for a two game series with the Atlanta Braves.

Kennedy's home run in the bottom of the 12th gives Nats 2-1 win Game 1 of 2

    Nats, Kennedy walk off

Washington DC-- A great pitchers duel between Jair Jurrjens of Atlanta and Scott Olsen of the Nats. Olsen allowed 1 run in the 1st as Martin Prado went deep and Jurrjens allowed 1 run in the 6th as the Nats manufactured a run. Neither pitcher would factor into the decision though. Fast forward to the 12 as Adam Kennedy came up and he work the count to 3-2 and just put a good swing on the ball and would carry over the fence.
