I vote for having wind on and beads on. It's tough to see all the curves on the green when camera angles suck for reading long putts. Also if you have a smaller TV its even more impossible.

What about a compromise in the swing with it on very hard instead of expert but keeping shot shape on?

Very hard swing difficulty with advanced shot shaping is the best way to go.

Haha. I was kidding my man. I play off 8 back here in England near the coast and the wind is always blowing. It is very much a feel thing. :)

Well I tried the Country Club tournament again today with the pure Sim settings and had to quit after 4 holes. I must have 3 and 4 putted every hole.

Maybe I just really really suck, but its too hard. Its at the point where its borderline not fun. Ha.

Here is my updated opinion after I've played "the real TW14 game" for a couple of days.

I still think that flat out Sim Mode will be a little too tough.
At least change the Strike Meter (to Sticky or at least to Analag) since we all will end up in the rough quiet often and it is nearly impossible to play
with advanced shot shaping plus the analog fade strike meter.

I would also prefer Zoom to Aim "On"

Especially after yesterdays CC Daily (at Crooked Stick)

I used "Flyby" (as I always use in Sim mode)
Somehow the game showed me a hole without the flag and I tought...ok...no biggie.
But as it turned out - the Flyby was from a different hole.
I found that out the hard way as my tee shot ended up in the water - where I didn't expected any water from the flyby.
Worst of all - they dropped the ball on the downslope right before the water where I had no chance to land the ball on the green/fairway/rough (anywhere).

    BTW
My Sim Mode history so far is (18 hole Single Round events)

    +2 Pinehurst
    +2 Pebble Beach
    +7 Pinehurst
    +2 Atlanta Athl.
+7 Crooked Stick (Swing = Very Hard)

Last Year I've finished in the bottom of the Top10 overall.

So you can imagine how the scores in this season will look like

Scores from +8 to +28 for a 4-round event doesn't sound too realistic for a Top-10 player to me.

I play my career mode with a 4.90 Difficulty.
So I would prefer our settings something in the 4.90 to 5.80 range.

full simulation or custom and only add the grid with no beads. i would rather have the leader at -3 or +3 than -51....

Surely that's the point of the rough? Hitting an errant tee-shot should be punished. Previous Tiger Woods games has meant the rough is pretty much no different from the fairway! It was way too easy.

As for your flyby and shot selection issue... press the select button and bring up the caddie book. It has an overview of the hole there and where the hazards are.

As for pins and getting used to greens, it will be a matter of playing the course prior to the tourney and getting used to it. I consider myself very good at Tiger Woods and won a major here a couple of years back - I expect to be fighting to make par almost every round on full sim mode.

    Fair enough.
But IMHO turning the Strike Meter to Analog (not Analog fade) is punishment enough.
Leave all other settings to sim mode. I have no problem with that.

    And regarding the caddie book.
I checked both the caddie book and flyby (as I always do) and both showed a different hole than the one I actually played.
I guess it's one of the bugs that are still in the game.
We'll see if that bug has been eliminated when the patch comes out.

For now - everyone who uses "flyby" should be alarmed if he sees a green with no "flagstick or flag" on it.
Chances are - the flyby and caddie book are showing you a wrong hole.

A game that starts easy it will just get easier with time. A hard game, its a better challenge for better and normal players. Don't really understand whats the point of game that doesn't punish you. Even if there are better players out there, having harder or more difficult settings just means that they will have more chances to screw up their rounds with a bad couple of holes. Even in real life you see good players coring over 8+ on any given day. Last week W. Simpson opened the first round of the tournament with 9+ and a couple of other good players at over 6+ during the first 2 rounds.

For example just had a -3 tournament, then a -1 in a live tournament of 5 holes then I went to play our CC tournament and I ended up with a horrible 22+ and I really enjoyed the round (even though I was screaming at the controller, golfer, tv and my girlfriend all the time) as I had to really try not to screw it up too much cause my game and swing was really off (I normally have to hit the range before a round, I didn't do that this time :p) and I was talking to the ball on every shot hahaha (no nononon stop stop stop! Keep going keep going!!, go dowwwwwwn!!!). The score is way higher that it should have as the course greens were really difficult (and I struggled with my putting stroke.), it looked to me as if it was a Sunday round :)

IMO, I love the fact that the you gotta lay up the ball if you are in a bad spot sometimes. I had 2 holes with 10 shots in that round cause I was going for the flag on every shot or just simply when trying to hit the ball in a position where was way below the level of my feet and in the rough, just kept going for those and making the same mistake (trying to go over the lake lol). The smart move would have been to play sideways towards the fairway.

Anyways I cant way for the tour, hopefully we will have people sticking to it and giving it a shot in the long run. Its just matter of practice and making your golfers better (for example, during that same tournaments the greens were hard and the ball kept bouncing off due to my lack of spin level and just simply cause I wasn't playing the shot right by lowering my power and let it roll toward the flag).

Full sim settings is just too much I see people shooting +18s.. thats just harsh. And can't be too fun.

I use a controller I don't have a kinnect but I was wondering are you guys using sticks or a kinnect. From my experience playing this game last year at a buddys , using a kinnect makes this game way easier than trying to shoot with the stick.

The balance here has to come between "Sim" and "fun." I think at some point the full SIM settings in this game are not fun. The best players should shoot -10 across an entire 4 rounds of a tournament, in some rounds, more to the -15 range. People should funnel back down to even par with the worst of us (ME!) being over par somewhat.

If the best players here are +7 for ONE ROUND, that isnt SIM. Sim does NOT mean HARD. SIM means REALISTIC.

With pure SIM settings, the scores and the settings arent realistic. When I am on a golf course, I can tell how hard the wind is going and what direction. When I am on a green I can crouch down and read breaks and slopes. And when I position my clubface to a shot on the ground, I do it once and stay there before I shoot

The sim settings here dont show you any hints to wind speed (like tree and leaf moving). The greens are AWFUL to read without beads. The resolution on the low view sucks, the view is still above the ground too much - its a piece of crap. And having to hold the right stick in place after positioning your club face behind the ball is too much. When I play in real life I dont have to hold one hand in palce then swing with one hand. Its weird. Once I look at the ball on the little ball show thing in the right corner and move the aimmer behind it, it should STAY THERE. Heck, I just did what I would do in real life - I lined up the shot.

    Thats my three cents.

Like I said before, I am shooting +20 per round with pure sim settings. The thought of shooting +80 for a 4 round torunament is absurd.

The gap between the good, regular and not so good players will always be there. Having harder settings just gives you a better shot to beat them. If you practice you will only get better and your scores will go down. You are playing with your own, your are not supposed to be Tiger Woods from one day to another! Its the learning curve that gives you the feeling of achieving progress and at some point actually (and hopefully) something. I really wouldn't enjoy a game that will allow to be good so easily.

You still dont grasp what the term SIM means in my post. Its not worth arguing about.

I predict that with pure SIM settings that the activity of the club will drop week to week and we will dwindle down to the very few who have the patience to struggle through +20 rounds every day or play countless enough hours on the game to perfect their skills.

I have a job that I work 100 hours a week. I love gaming when I can. I love sim gaming. I have been in many leagues on this site over various sports. The SIM settings in this game are the least SIM of them all. And saying that its better like that since its "supposed to be hard until you really work at it" is false once you reach a certain point. Not knowing how greens slope and how hard the wind blows and having to place a club head by a ball and hold it there with a cursor that DISAPPEARS is NOT SIM.

This simulation settings will scare alot of people away.. I love golf and this years game but being plus 14 through 9 on simulation settings sounds absolutely terrible and no fun whatsoever...

Shot a plus 22!! Got to love it!! Used a good golfer as well!!

IMO keeping the no zoom, directional arrow only, and no green grid are crucial for leveling out the playing field. If changes are made they should be to swing difficulty, strike meter, and shot shaping... I can understand the frustration of not being able execute the shot that you are trying to set up

See I think the shot difficulty is the entire skill. Not having no beads on for grid makes it impossible to read for me. I can deal with everything being FULL Sim, would just like to see greens on no beads. The 360's resolution is just too low to be able to read the more difficult greens, maybe it's easier on the ps3 idk.

For the guys having troubles, how do you have your golfers swing style set up? If you're using the left stick for swinging, I highly suggest going as a control fade golfer. the fade is so much easier to swing when using the left stick(not even sure if you can switch the stick used for swinging, if you can then switch it to the right stick for a draw) but I found it nearly impossible to make a good draw swing on the left stick, the fade just goes with your natural thumb motion on the stick. Also, until you get the hang of it, go with control so you have a little more accuracy. And with the strike meter, I use my right thumb and index finger to firmly hold the target where I want it on the ball when swinging, don't try just using your thumb, you'll rarely keep it in the right spot when you swing. with the short game, chipping and putting, USE THE PRACTICE SWING to figure out your power. address the ball, click L3 and figure out the right power for the shot. With putting, I personally don't do this, but you could change the view to a side view of your swing, and then practice swing and that'll give you a better reference to how far to pull back on the putt. With reading putts, someone put up a link for a tutorial from TWSloaner(anyone remember where this is?) that helps explain how to read the greens better. Even with grid/beads on I use those tips for reading them better.

Fact is, if we go back to normal swing and allow straight shots, it's going to be -15 or better every round again, even with all the other options turned off. I'm ok with having the strike meter on analog instead of analog fade, it's still tough to hit a good shot on some of those out of the rough and sand. Wind meter I really don't care anymore, the caddie book will tell you the range the wind will be in, and if you look at the meter close, you can tell if it's more powerful or not by the back and forth wave of the arrow.
