Packers and Falcons battle it out at Lambeau field on a sunny day in Green Bay. Packers win the coin toss and elect to kick the ball to the Falcons to open up the game. Falcons were well aware of the “Sgibs Cheddar” (as he calls it) when he brings extreme heat at the QB. Falcons thought they were mentally prepared to handle it, but Atlanta was in for a rude awakening on their first drive. After, Michael Turner gets stuffed on first down, the Falcons elect to throw and got first hand experience of the heat which was able to get to Ryan. This forced the Falcons to a 3 and Out series and a punting situation. Packers earned the opportunity to jump ahead of the Falcons and take control of the game early. Here are the highlights of the Packers first drive: Falcons needed to respond with their next drive or they would be digging a huge hole they did not want to get themselves into. On this drive, the Falcons were able to convert a long 3rd and 17 play in which the Falcons anticipated a certain look and the play worked to perfection as Ryan hits White with a 21 yard strike extending the drive. The Falcons were able to establish the run in this series which would prove pivotal as the game went on. Turner was leaned on in this drive and was able to get the Falcons into the redzone. Falcons were faced with a 3rd and 1 situation in which they felt that they could catch the Packers off guard, but the play resulted in a sack forcing Atlanta to kick a FG and draw the score to 7-3 with less than a minute left in the 2nd Quarter. Packers take the ball with less than a minute to go with no timeouts left. They still have scoring on their mind as they methodically try to move the ball down the field. After hitting two consecutive screen passes to Starks, the Falcons would not budge on their prevent defense. They put one little wrinkle in on the next play as the Packers go to the well one more time to Starks. DE Edwards was put in a contain giving him an angle out to the side before heading up field. This call by coach antcap24 was to try to get into the passing lane of the screen pass, and it worked to perfection. DE Edwards was able to pick off the pass with :03 sec left on the clock. He wisely takes a dive to ensure a FG opportunity rather than to risk the pick 6. This sets up the 52 yard FG by Bryant as time expires to make the score 7-6 Packers going into half. Falcons D finally comes up big to start the 2nd half as they force the Packers to punt on their first drive. The Falcons come out shooting with Ryan hitting Gonzalez on two consecutive passes, and then hitting Douglas to the outside to get the Falcons down the field. Atlanta dials up a weak side outside zone play hoping they would catch the Packers in their overload blitzes they were send on Matthews side(right screen). The play call works as designed and Turner was off to the races as the Falcons get their first lead of the game 12-7. Only up 5 the Falcons decide to go for 2. Turner takes it up the gut and get a fall forward to punch it in. 14-7 Falcons lead, Packers would strike right back. They worked the ball up the field hitting several different receivers. They pretty much had their way on the drive that results in a Jones TD on a crossing route to tie up the score at 14.
