It is no secret that the student body is stocked full of TALENT!! We could fill 100 pages with the gorgeous sights on campus sorry ASU fans this week we are going to meet the talent on the field. The Defense returns several starters from a squad that at times last year looked stout. Lead by #7 AA MLB Vontaze Burfict (Mel Kipers top JR in his Mock Draft) this defense should be salty. Top standouts on the defense are fellow LB's SR's Brandon Magee, Oliver Aaron, Shelly Lyons, and Colin Parker. The Secondary has veterns SR CB's Omar Bolden and Eddie Elder as well as rising SO Osahon Irabor who impressed big time during the spring game. The DL is at this time a work in progress but have several big bodies to fill the trenches. If they can occupy the OL's they should give the LB corp time to get in the backfield an wreck havoc. Next up we we will have a write up about new Coach Matt York and a little about the offensive side of the ball.

The outlook for the 2011 football season figures to create the perfect storm in the desert for Arizona State University, as a dynamic, experienced and hungry squad takes the field focused to establish itself as a force in the newly-formed Pacific-12 Conference.

Guided by Three Time Pee-Wee football champions of the Shelbyville Rec League is newly hired Head Coach Matt York

in his firstyear at the helm for the Sun Devils, ASU figures to field a team as deep and focused as any in the conference; from its bounty of skill position athletes to its veteran, tenacious defense to its game-breaking special teams units.
The Sun Devils return an amazing 19 of 22 offensive and defensive starters from the conclusion of the 2010 season, giving ASU the combination of tenure and talent needed to take full control of its challenging 2011 schedule.

"I believe this team is capable of winning some games and having an opportunity to compete for the championship and that’s what we want to do," said York. "For me, I think it’s a very important season for this program, no question about it."

Offensively, ASU’s potent attack that ranked among the nation’s best in passing and total offense, is anchored by senior offensive

lineman Garth Gerhart, senior wide receivers Gerell Robinson and Mike Willie, junior running back Cameron Marshall and junior starting quarterback Brock Osweiler. Osweiler stands at an imposing 6'8" and 250lbs. With a rocket arm he needs to focus more on accuracy as he compleated less that 57% of his passes last year. He will be taking the helm of the Devil offense only after the retirement of what would be SR Steven Threets (several concussions) season to shine. Brock started only 2 games last year but looked real good in the spring game. ASU will look for Marshall to add to his team leading 757 yards rushing from last year he will split time in the backfield with SO DeAntre Lewis. The recieving corp is SR laden and deep with speed and height. Look for Coach York to pound the ball with such a deep line and then look over the top with Osweilers arm. Opportunity is knocking is this the year Sparky opens the door?

    ASU Inks Its 1st Recruit

The Sun Devils recieved some good news this Friday as the #27 Tackle in the country Roderick Lumpkin from Park City Utah signed a letter of intent to play for ASU next fall. Lumpkin stands at 6'5" 285 lbs and is rated a :3stars: by both rivals and scout. "He is a big boy we need him to work on technique this fall with his High School coaches and to put on a few more LB's. With his skill set I see him getting thrown into the mix to play his freshman year." said Coach York when asked about Roderick.

    ASU MIDSEASON STATS
The Sun Devils sit at 4-3 on the season and 3-1 in the Pac 12. They are currently on top of the South Division with a 1 game lead over USC. Here is a look at the stats mid way through the regular season. 1st off we have the QB's who have only split time because of an injury to JR QB Brock Osweiler. SO Taylor Kelly filled in against Navy and helped guide the Devils to a win.
We have the RB group next. This has been a two headed monster as Coach York has used multiple backfields from 2 TB to 2 FB to get the job done. Leading the way has been JR Cameron Marshall he has been the between the tackles runner while speedy Deantre Lewis has subbed in and the winded D is usually trying to play catch up as he takes it to the house.
The WR corps has been led by SR Gerell Robinson who is tied with SO JJ Holiday for the team lead in TD catches. Robinson has several key 1st down catches on the year. "He has helped maintain drives with big time catches. He has stepped up to show the young guys that its not all about flash its the tough catches over the middle that gets you to the NFL." said Coach York. Holiday has been a surprise as he only has 18 catches as 5 of those have been for scores he can take it to the house from just about anywhere on the field. He is also the teams punt and kick returner and has taken one kick back for a score to lead the team with 6 total TD's.
The Devils D has seen its share of ups and downs this season. With good games against OSU, Navy and Oregon they have had let downs against Utah and Tulsa. Leading the team in takcles SR LB Brandon Magee has had an impressive season to date. "I look for B to step it up on the playcalling make sure we get in the proper formation and scheme...make the audible at the line of scrimage for stunts and blitz's. This will be the deciding factor in if we compete for the Pac 21 south or we dominate." said Coach York.
