Michigan has their first commitment for the 2013 class, 3* C Scott Dixon from Royal Oak, MI. Dixon will more than likely redshirt his freshman year, but will vie for starting time by his Sophomore or Junior year.

    14 more to go...

Forgot you could look it up online.

FS was a need spot, and he was at like 60% or so before I talked to him. Pretty much knew he was gonna sign.

So ... this whole bonus recruit thing doesn't exactly add up to a fair fight. Not trying to start trouble, but this is (again) just a feeding-frenzy for OSU and UF while the rest of us might be lucky to get an extra recruit.

Big D - I know, you have a whole different set of challenges so you won't agree. Understood.

The rest of us (4-5's, 4-4's, 1-3) might care.

I chewed on this for a while. I don't want to sound bitter or just complain without offering solutions. I think this system needs some thought. I like the general idea and I think this is right on for later in the dynasty, but it strongly favors the 6-star schools early on.

Ok, it looks like the list is back, but the five stars are no longer a part of it. 21 guys total now, and it looks like about half of us are in the running for a piece of the list. Good luck, gentlemen.

Michigan State's recruiting class got an early boost with their 1st commitment in week 1. Eric Williams, :4stars:DE out of New Jersey, will likely start as a true freshman next season for the Spartans. At 6-5 and 272, Williams should be a force for years to come.

MSU has an extreme shortage of youth on both the offensive and defensive lines and is focusing their recruiting efforts in both of those areas. On the O-line, MSU is targeting four linemen and is currently 1st for two of them and in contention for the other two. On the D-line, MSU already singed one DE and is targeting another two DTs. MSU is 1st on the list for one of them and fighting with top-dogs OSU and OU to keep :4stars:Brian Hall in-state.

Another area of need for the Spartans is the defensive secondary. MSU is actively recruiting three of the top CBs in hopes of landing two of them. MSU is also working to land their future SS :4stars: Matt Smith out of GA), but UGA has held a considerable lead with the speedy safety. A successful visit in East Lansing for their rivalry game against Notre Dame could help to narrow the gap.

Elsewhere, MSU is fighting with in-state rival Michigan to try and steal :4stars:OLB Tim Blount right out of Ann Arbor.

Nicely done. I missed that the first time through. If we hook up when you're out here, I'll tell you a funny story about a trip I took to Ann Arbor over that particular weekend when I was many years younger than now.

    Ohio State Week 4 Visits:

It's a big weekend in Columbus, but not necessarily because of the game, as the Buckeyes host a dreadful UAB squad. Most think the Bucks will run away with the game, but it's the recruits that have everyone talking. Look who will be in the stands this weekend:

    MT.PNG

The Buckeyes are quickly making use of a newly established pipeline into Illinois by potentially picking up one of the state's top players. With 2 of OSU's 4 middle linebackers graduating this year, the Bucks need a big pickup at this spot, and they have thrown all their recruiting power into Michael Thompson (#2 MLB, #38 OVR). He's not the fastest backer the Bucks have ever seen (C+ SPD, B+ ACC, D AGI) but he's got good size, and he's as technically sound as most upperclassmen (B- TKL, B Play Rec) and he's really tough to block or get away from (B- BLK SHD, B Pursuit, B Hit PWR). If he signs, look for opposing offenses to abandon running between the tackles for a few years.

    TP.PNG

Also in the stands will be #1 offensive guard Terrell Perkins out of Pennsylvania (#1 OG, #52 OVR). The Buckeyes were considering waiting on his visit for another week, but after calling him at the right time (X2 Week) and saying all the right things (60 min call, 1021 pts) Coach Griffin decided to bring him to town and see if Ohio State can seal the deal right now. We'll have to wait and see if his strategy turns out to be a good one.

Gators recruiting class is a cluster fuck right now. Have committed a :4stars:FS and the rest is a toss up. Seems like EA has set up a east/west coast rivalry between Oregon and FLorida.

    Week 5.PNG

Both Thompson and Perkins waited a week to sign, soft committing in week four before signing in week five. The Bucks added a number of soft commits in week five also, and picked up 3-star tackle Fred Davis out of Texas. Davis is a run block specialist with slow feet, but he's a monster (6-6, 336 lbs) and he should get his chance to shove guys around in the Buckeye running game in a few years.

Ohio State Week Seven Recruiting Update

The Buckeyes brought in four recruits in week five, and none of them committed. However, all four soft committed, so Coach Griffin felt pretty good about Ohio State's chances, especially when he saw that none of the recruits had any visits scheduled for week six, when the Buckeyes were idle.

Sure enough, all four soft commits signed, and the base of the Ohio State class is now complete. From here on, it will be project kids and pipeline recruits, as the Bucks have now taken care of all of their needs. Still, OSU's twelve recruits are five short of a complete class, so look for Coach to try to steal some talent from the rest of the recruiting pool. As for this week's signees, here they are:

    TD.PNG

With senior SS CJ Barnett graduating, and backup Christian Bryant having only a single year of eligibility left after this season, the Buckeyes needed a future starter. Dobzinski is the best player at his position in this class, and it isn't likely that he'll see any competition for the job after Bryant graduates next year. Look for Coach Griffin to add a three star local kid as a backup, but it's Dobzinski's job to lose.

    BH.PNG

The Ohio State D-line graduates a number of quality guys in the middle on the next year, so look for Hall to be as high as third on the depth chart as early as next year. If not, he'll likely redshirt, and then almost surely have the opportunity to start for four years.

    AS.PNG

Simmons is a big, strong, mean run blocker. He's not that great in pass protection, but in a couple years, he'll be half of the best guard tandem in the Big Ten, right alongside the #1 offensive guard in this year's class and fellow Pennsylvanian Terrell Perkins, who signed with Ohio State in week five.

    JY.PNG

The Bucks reached into Illinois once again, and this time they snatched the #8 tackle in the class. Yates should see early time, since the Bucks will likely only bring back three tackles next season, and one of those will graduate next year. Look for Yates to start in year two, or even earlier if Ohio State gets bit by the NFL bug.

Here's the entire class as it stands right now:

    Week 7.PNG

This class is unlikely to change in significant ways before the off-season, as the Buckeyes have reached the NCAA's cap on top talent, but they are likely to add a number of backups and diamonds in the rough, since Ohio State has the staff and the facilities to get the very best out of every player on their roster.

It's a slow year in Ann Arbor for recruiting, despite the 7-0 start...

With 15 scholarships available for this upcoming season, the recruiting coordinators really need to get to work here...

So far, Hairston and Forte are the only real needs for this upcoming class. Scott Dixon and Derek Levine will both redshirt their first year in Ann Arbor.

Michigan is looking at 1-5-59 right now.
