Guys, now that we have a complete group, there are a couple of items I want to bring up for discussion from a rules perspective for NCAA 2012.

Recruiting Restrictions - Do we want to implement any restrictions on our recruiting? I don't know that I want any kind of complicated recruiting formulas (since I don't really feel like having to monitor something like that), but I would be ok with something limiting the total # of 5 star recruits that can be signed. Something like no more than 3 :5stars: can be signed a year maybe. Beyond that we would stick with the roster limit of 70 and likely allow users to recruit to 71 and cut one player a year.

One thing that we debated in one of my OD's last year was having the requirement that if you signed a :5stars: recruit he had to be in your 2-deep roster the next season, since star recruits these days go to college expecting to play right away. What would you guys think about that?

Swaying Players - I'm thinking that I want to adjust the rule on swaying players, mainly due to the fact that the CPU cannot sway players to stay and users can, which adds to the gap in talent that already develops over time. Rather than a set rule, I'm thinking something along the lines of a 3 man committee selected from the group who will quickly review the players leaving each year and vote on which guys can be swayed and which should leave. For example, if you have a guy who is rated 88+ OVR and put up great numbers, he would be a candidate to not be swayed.

Please post any thoughts on the above you guys may have, or feel free to bring up any other rule questions/concerns you may have. I'd like to get them all hashed out so all that's left when the game drops is a bit of tweaking here and there.

    On the recruiting front:

First of all, what settings are we going with because I've heard that Heisman is a significantly more difficult game of recruiting? If we go Heisman I would say no restrictions. If we go AA I think we should limit. I can't decide if I like the 2 deep rule on a :5stars: recruit or not. I'd have to hear arguments I think.

For swaying I've liked the idea of not swaying certain players, but not by committee. I think we should have an idea of who we can and who we can't replace on our own. Basically just a set rating that we can, and a set rating that we cannot.

Unless EA significantly alters how it works, I don't see us using Heisman recruiting. I did a good amount of experimenting with that recruiting setting in NCAA 2011 and generally you had 95% of the top 200 players signed prior to week 6-7 under this method, which negates alot of the recruiting battles that are really part of the fun of these OD's. My preference would be AA recruiting with some sort of cap/restrictions.

Aight cool. Well I would say 3 5* players is too low though. Maybe 4 would be a good # imo. (Here's to hoping any more than that would be a difficult task anyway with "improved cpu recruiting".

The reason I threw 3 :5stars: out there was that I believe in real life a school rarely (if ever) signs more than 2-3 :5stars: recruits in a season, according to the class rankings by sites like ESPN and Rivals. Plus, if you have 12 teams and everyone signed 4 :5stars: that would leave hardly any (likely less than 5-10) players of that calibre for the remaining 100+ CPU teams.

As far as restrictions go outside of the roster requirements I dont really support them. If anything I say get rid of the +3 or +1 rules, that would free up 12-36 recruits for the computer. I just feel like why play a game with one hand tied behind your back, but I realize im in the minority on this and will abide by whatever everyone else decides.

Plus one of the problems is with player progression, 3 stars rarely ever become big time players so if you dont get those 4 star or 5 star guys team talent drops quickly.

The team said this has been addressed so hopefully that's the case and 3 stars will become a prominent part of the game again.

Dude I am in the minority right along with you, I love the concept of guys coming together and agreeing on sim rules but I don't like the concept of not being able to recruit whoever I wan't , and it sounds like to me that EA might have addressed the cpu recruiting and CC function. But that's just my 2 cents

I don't trust EA to fix the CPU recruiting or anything else that has to do with making logical desicions. I would say recruit to 70 with no cuts and if we do decide to limt 5 stars I would say 3 max. Either way we could not recruit any 5 stars and still win games because how dumb the CPU is in game, unless we just go hard core sliders that make the players ratings obsolete.

I truthfully dont have any strong opinions one way or the other. I'll be fine with whatever we decide.

To me this is a small issue, just wanted to add my opinion, I wouldn't have issue with the above mentioned setup

as the coach of WSU, I will not be signing any five star recruits, and if I am lucky to sign a five star recruit during the first five seasons I am going to sign as many as possible. But seriously there should be some limitations as to how many 5 star recruits a team signs. If the historical average is three over the past 10 years a realistic limit should be three. Just because you can sign more than 3 doesn't mean you should.

In addition the recruiting structure should be no plus 1, it is a 70 man roster with no cuts unless there are walk ons.

Finally being able to sway people back is something that needs to be address by EA. If a player wants to turn pro you should probably lose them, but some times a player with an 85 turns pro, and realistically that shouldn't happen. So I propose any player with a 90 OVR cannot be swayed back, plus if he wins a major award cannot be swayed back.

I'd be ok with that. What constitutes...."Major" awards?

Around TF, any offseason award is a major award. My thing with swaying players is that for one, it's way too easy to do and 2nd, you end up with user teams constantly stacked with multiple 90+ OVR guys, many times at the same position.

I think the max number of :5stars: should be 4 maybe go 5 which is rare unless your buying new cars and giving out free tatoos! But, as far as the guys that come in as :5stars: having to be in two deep sometimes they are a bust and the :4stars:guys come in alot better! The other thing we should consider is EA said more defensive guys as :5stars: and in top 150 it may be best to see if by that they mean balance with offense and defense or just more :5stars: guys.

The recruiting restrictions on number of players I agree should be 70. I know colleges over sign alot in case someone doesnt qualify, but that doesn't really happen on the game. Plus over signing players would just give the bigger programs an advantage and they kinda already have that with being able to sign :5stars:.

Since you pointed out avg in that manner I might like the idea of saying no more than 4 :5stars: players in any single season and no more than 6 in any back to back seasons. Gives the opportunity to strategize and have an incredible class, but not get too many great players compared to anyone else's opportunities in a 2 year span.

Cap at 3 :5stars: is good. I like Jayrah's idea too but that has to be tracked by someone. From my experience the less you have to keep track of stuff the better. But if Jay is volunteering, that might be a good option.

No cuts, period. Even walk-ons. If we are all starting out of the blocks, you shouldnt need walk-ons if you move players around during position changes.

I think a hard cap of anyone 90 or above can't be swayed would be a good rule as well. Committee would be good in theory but again, less is more IMO here.

I would tend to agree with recchem than in the area of what needs to be tracked, less is more.

I like the following recommendations and will plan on moving forward with these rules unless someone wants to continue the discussion:

    • Recruit to 70 players - no cuts
    • Cap of 3 :5stars: recruits per year, no cap on :4stars: recruits.
    • Any player rated 90+ OVR who chooses to leave early cannot be swayed, with the exception of kickers/punters.
    • Any player rated 87+ OVR who wins an end of season award (Heisman, Best QB, Best LB, etc) who chooses to leave early cannot be swayed, with the exception of kickers/punters.
If anyone has issue with this let's keep the discussion going.

Yes - I forgot to mention that. The 'specialists' can be swayed back regardless.

I feel like 90 is a bit low ,95 seems better to me, especially considering the poor decision making of players leaving in the past. Maybe its been fixed idk.

Really? If anything, I'd go a shade lower. 88+ cannot be swayed....

but again, I really dont care one way or the other :D

I think those are good Dru and the 90 makes more since if a guy is 95 in college he is going to jump ship pretty quick.
