I was wanting to start this thread a little sooner than this, and I never would have thought it would start on such a sad a note as this....

Sooner projected starting MLB Austin Box was found dead of an apparent overdose on pain killers. Box has had multiple back surgeries. Most thought Box would never play football again. He went through procedures to make sure that wouldn't happen. After tedious rehab and a lot of hard work, Austin Box was expected to start at MLB for the sooners next season. He was an Oklahoma boy. Grew up a Sooner fan. He said playing football for Oklahoma was one of his biggest dreams come true.

He was one of my personal favorite players and will be sorely missed by Sooner nation. Nothing but the best to his family and friends as they journy through this very rough time in there lives.

    Story from ESPN found here:
    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6567273

From here on out, this thread will be for Sooner News/Updates. I will post recruiting updates as I they come in. FIrst report comming soon.

Last time I saw him was when we were both picking up NCAA Football at the Walmart in El Reno. Sad deal.

    Rest in peace

But do we really need a Sooner thread on this board? Go to a Sooner forum

To my knowledge, there are several Sooner fans in this league... If you don't want to look at this thread and it has no relevance to you. Feel free to not click on it.

I'll leave it up to you guys. If most don't want this thread, I have no problem deleting it. But if the Sooner faithful don't mind being updated. I'll keep it. Sound off.

Thats really sad- it seems like theres been a lot of deaths in the last year or so with D-1 players/incomming recruits. Prayers with the OU family and hope no other programs have to deal with this anytime soon.

Side note, I actually did a long story on him after he committed to OU. I interviewed him, his dad, his coach...Really nice guy too. You can still find the story on Rivals.

More sad news for the Sooner family...

I hate that most of the recent news I've had to post has been so bad, and now I have to add another to this list.

Former starting CB Brandon Everage died of an apparent boating accident on Friday. He was a hard hitting staple in the early Bob Stoops era. He was a hell of a player and will be missed. RIP.

As far as my poll goes...

My vote goes to Brandon Williams.

He'll break a few huge runs early on in the season, gain the OC's trust, and just get better from there while splitting carries with Finch. I just don't see Metoyer, even with all his talent, making an instant impact like Williams while in a WR corps as deep as the Sooners. Metoyer will be a force when Broyles has gone. Look for the Metoyer / Stills combo to be a nationally recognized tandum in the near future. Just not right away...

    New Sooner Commit

Not a top ranked prospect but, Venables must see something special in him.

(OLB) Eric Striker :1stars:6'1" 190 lbs (NR) (Projected as a :4stars:after next season)

First Team All-Hillsborough County LB by Tampa Tribune as a Junior.

Also had offers from Cincinatti and Tennessee.

Here's a good recruiting write up from Bleacherreport.com...

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ting-2012-sooners-top-targets-and-commitments

(sidenote: #1 overall QB, Gunner Kiel has expressed interest in going to the same college as #1 overall WR, Dorial Green-Beckham. Dorial Green-Beckham green has expressed interest in going to whatever college (WR) Durron Neal goes to... which we all know now is OU)

Brandon Everage went to Bartlett, a little 1A town that Hutto played every year when I was growing up. I never played against Brandon, but I played against his little brother/cousin. There were a lot of Everages in that town.
