    South Carolina Gamecocks
    2010 Season

The 2010 season is finally here, and the state of South Carolina is anxious for football. South Carolina had a dismal 2009 year, going 4-8. Led by QB Stephen Garcia, SC looks for a rebound year. Coach Cimmy missed out on many games last season, but looks to be on the sidelines for every game this year. Columbia will host some tough home games this year, against Georgia, Bama, and Arkansas, but the Cocks will have to travel to Gainsville and take on the Gators in the Swamp. Those 4 games are going to be key to the Gamecocks success this year as they are each against some of the leagues best Coaches. Alabama squeaked away with a victory over USC on their way to an SEC Championship and National Championship bid. SC looks to avenge that loss. Other important games include match ups against Tennessee, Kentucky, and their hated In-State Rivals, Clemson. Coach Cimmy, the Gamecocks, and the SC Faithful are all hoping to go bowling this season. HB Eric Baker looks to have a breakout year and lead this team to a solid bowl and make some noise in the SEC. With a majority of the team being Seniors, Cimmy would like to send them out in winning fashion. Look for the offense to be aggressive, and the defense to be clutch.

    Week 1
Troy Trojans @ South Carolina Gamecocks

Opening week in the 2010 season finally arrives. The Gamecocks are looking to improve on a painful 2009 season and go bowling this year. First, standing in the way for SC were the Trojans of Troy. HB Eric Baker was the pregame favorite to lead the team to victory in this game. Coach Cimmy was looking to just run the ball and control the clock, hoping to show up and come away with an easy win. Troy would not allow it. Both defenses showed up and the Trojans did not let Baker run the ball easily. SC was able to move the ball down into the redzone, but Garcia threw a crucial pick 6, which was returned 97 yards by the Trojans. South Carolina would than control the game as Baker would later pound the rock from a yard out for the TD to make everything all even. Later in the half, SC would tack on a go ahead FG. 10-7 SC going into the half. It was all SC in the 3rd as Baker punched in another TD from 2 YDs out, and the Gamecocks would recover their own fumble in the endzone. Starting things off in the 4th, back-up QB Hillary came in for some reps and found Freshman WR Jeffery for a 42 YD TD grab. Troy would make things interesting as they then scored on a 28 yard pass with 2:42 left, and would cover the onside kick as the SC defender just watched it bounce off his chest. Troy would capitalize and score within seconds and bring it within 8 points. SC would control the ball and the clock and tack on another 3 to put the game out of reach. South Carolina would hang on for an season kickoff victory.

    Gamecocks Stats:
    -QB S. Garcia: 16 for 29 289 YDs
    -HB E. Baker: 27 Cars 82 YDs 2 TDs
    -WR D. LeCorn: 6 Rec 106 YDs
    -WR A. Jeffery: 5 Recs 104 YDs 1 TD

    Injury News:
HB E. Baker was knocked out of the game in the 3rd, but no details on the extent of his injury have been released.

    Better Summary To Come....

    [CENTER/]#5 UGA @ South Carolina[SIZE]

The Gamecocks didn't play South Carolina football today. They were able to hold the Dawgs on a few drives, but couldn't stop the run on the others. Coach was in too much of a hurry to get this game. Don't know if they would have won the game if they played the traditional SC way, but regardless, there is a L on the season. 3 INTs on batted balls didn't help the cause.

    Final: UGA 52? SC 29

**Note to other Coaches: Do not try to squeeze important games in before you have to leave for work....**

    Week 3
    #2 Alabama @ South Carolina

The Crimson Tide came into Columbia to take on the 1-1 Gamecocks in their first SEC battle. After getting revenge over the Nittany Lions last week, Bama was ready to Roll again. South Carolina had other plans as they were looking for their own revenge after last years last OT loss to the Tide.

USC would come out and show Bama that they were prepared. Holding Bama to only a field goal and scoring 3 TDs, SC held a 21-3 lead early in the game. In the first half, SC would suffer a terrible loss. Star HB Eric Baker would go down with a back injury and is out for 3 weeks. Coach Ryty would tell his defense to take advantage of the void in the USC offense and watch for the pass. He couldn't have been more right. The Alabama Defense would force 6 interceptions as Stephen Garcia had one of his worst games of his college football career.

Bama would hold strong and come out on top of the Gamecocks, 48-32.

Tough schedule, man. I'm surprised you had a 21-3 lead! So is Garcia benched for the next game?

Thanks for putting up the scoring summary ryty. Yeah, Baker going down is a huge let down for the Gamecocks. His 72-yard run was a statement to what this guy means to the team. He ran over 2 Bama defenders. I mean he absolutely TRUCKED them. Garcia will stay in. He is the starting QB. There is no need to bench him. 6 INTs is unwanted of course, but he was a part of keeping it close. I look at it as it was 6 interceptions and we lost by 16. Could have been much worse. The defense just buckled down. The pass commit kills me, but he knew it was coming. Hopefully Brian Maddox can fill the shoes of Baker for the next few weeks. We had one helluva start to the SEC Schedule...UGA then Bama is a rough start. Can't wait to get it rolling. We're looking to make a bowl game this year, or this program is in trouble.

    South Carolina v Southern Miss

    Week 4
    South Carolina @ Southern Miss

It's going to be a long season for the South Carolina Gamecocks and there fans. SC traveled to the home of Brett Favre...or...old home....or is it his home? Idk, we don't know...nobody does. Anyway...SC went down to Mississippi to take on the Golden Eagles. It would be another nightmare for the Gamecocks as both QBs Stephen Garcia and Aramis Hillary would combine for 7 total INTs. "The USM defense was unbelievable out there. They were like a bunch of robots. You could pass the ball to an empty spot and the slowest defender would be there in a flash to get the pick," was Garcia's statement after getting benched in the 2nd. Hillary was able to spark some life into the SC team. He scored on a couple of Option Runs. SC did have a shot to win late, but 2 crucial drops by wide open SC receivers with under 30 ticks left, abolished all hope of a comeback. USC looks for a miracle to turn their season around....

Final Score: USM 33 SC 28

    South Carolina @ Auburn

South Carolina can't escape the interceptions, but the defense helps come away with a much needed victory. After starting off the wrong way in the SEC, suffering 2 conference losses to UGA and Bama, SC needed to bounce back against the Auburn Tigers. The interception bug plagued the Gamecocks as in the last 2 weeks they had a combined 13-14 interceptions between the two QBs. Wasn't much of a change in this one as QB Garcia 3 INTs, 1 that was grabbed out of bounds by LB Paige and returned it 99 yards as he beat every offensive SC player in a footrace. The defense would do its job, however. DE Geathers had 7 TKLs, including a school record 4 sacks. Next, the Gamecocks look to keep their Bowl Season dreams alive, as they travel to SEC Rival Kentucky.

    Stats:
    -QB S. Garcia: 14 for 23 189 YDs 2 TDs 3 INTs
    -HB B. Maddox: 31 ATTs 111 YDs 1 TD
    -TE W. Saunders: 4 Recs 89 YDs
    -WR J. Barnes: 4 Recs 52 YDs 1 TD
    -DE C. Geathers: 7 TKLs (5 TFLs), 4 Sacks
-WR A. Jeffery: 3 KRs 138 YDs 1 KR TD

    Week 6
    South Carolina @ Kentucky

South Carolina is coming off a huge SEC victory over the Auburn Tigers and the Wildcats challenged the Gators, but could not pull off the victory. Kentucky would look really good in the beginning of this one and made Coach Cimmy think, "Here we go..." The SC defense would hold UK to a FG in the first quarter. SC would then strike on a 45 yard TD pass from Garcia to Barnes to take the lead. HB Eric Baker would make his return in this game, but would fall to another injury in the first quarter and be knocked out for the rest of the game. Maddox would take over and did work for the Gamecocks. He would score from 3 yards out to go up 14-3 in the second. SC still would play caution football as the UK offense was just extremely fast. However, after an interception, SC would score again to go up 21-3 into the half. The story wouldn't change in the second half as the Gamecocks dominated the Wildcats on their home turf and win by a final of 45-10. QB Garcia and QB Hillary both saw action in this game and for the first time in weeks, neither would thrown an interception! SC has a bye week before traveling to Vanderbilt looking to secure another SEC victory on their road to a bowl game.

After this victory, the SC faithful would again display their glory for old South Carolina, like this young lady who made the trip for the Gamecocks, reminding us all how she feels about the Cocks...

Arkansas (dogslax) @ South Carolina (Cimmy24)

A huge SEC matchup between the Arkansas Razorbacks and the South Carolina Gamecocks. A battle of farm animals would see one of the best finishes of the season. Arkansas would strike first on an 28 yard FG. SC would answer with a 20 yard TD pass from Garcia to Saunders. Arkansas would get a TD of their own with a 29 yard pass from Mallett to Cleveland to end the 1st quarter with the lead, 10-7. After Garcia threw an interception deep in their own territory, the Hogs would score on a 1 yard TD run by Johnson. HB Brian Maddox would come in for the injury prone Baker and keep the Cocks close. Arkansas's Green would scamper in form 2 yards out and the Hogs would take a halftime lead, 24-14. In the 3rd, HB Baker would return and make an impact with a TD run to bring it close. Arkansas would respond with a 1 yard run by Green to keep the lead at 10. On the ensuing kickoff, WR Alston Jeffery would bring it 103 yards to the house to match the Green TD, to pull SC back into it. The SC defense would finally hold the Arkansas run game, and with 5:24 left in the 4th, Arkansas would tack on a FG to go up 34-28. With the ball in hand and knowing they could not stop the Arkansas offense, SC coach Cimmy knew they either needed to score quickly and hope to get the ball back if Arkansas scored, or burn as much clock as possible and rely on the run game that saw many injuries. Running the ball would be the option. Converting a multiple critical 3rd downs, SC drove the ball down the field and with 1:07 left, Baker would put the Cocks up 35-34. SC controlled the ball for 4:17 in the series. Arkansas still had time, but on the first play of the drive, the defense was able to get to Mallett and force a bad pass that resulted in an SC Interception to seal the deal for the Gamecocks!

    Great Game Dogslax!!!

    Stats:
    -QB S. Garcia: 8 for 14 182 YDs 1 TD 1 INT
    -HB E. Baker: 24 Atts 104 YDs 2 TDs
    -HB B. Maddox: 8 Atts 22 YDs 1 TD
    -MLB J. Dickerson: 13 Tkls, 1 INT
    -SS C. Addison: 9 Tkls

    Up Next....
