South Carolina Play Poor Hosts, Pummeling Southern Miss 52-31South Carolina opened up the season with a comfortable win against Southern Miss. The game was truly out of hand by halftime as the Gamecocks held a 45-10 lead at that point. After Southern Miss scored first, thanks to a 25 yard field goal, South Carolina would respond with a 50 yard field goal to tie the game at 3. South Carolina would add 21 straight points after that, first thanks to a 3 yard run by Stephen Garcia, followed by a 15 yard pass by Garcia to Jason Barnes, and capped off by a 92 yard interception return by MLB Josh Dickerson. Southern Miss narrowed the gap to 14 with a 10 yard pass by Austin Davis to his tight end, Johdrick Morris, but Southern Carolina would add a further 21 unanswered points to close out the half. First, on the first play form scrimmage after the Southern Miss touchdown, Stephen Garcia dropped back and launched a bomb down the left sideline which was caught by Alshon Jeffery for a 59 yard score, and that was followed by a couple Marcus Lattimore touchdown runs to close out the half with the Gamecocks up 45-10.The second team offense/defense came in for the entire second half as the Gamecocks wanted to not risk any key injuries in a game that looked as a certain W. Southern Miss were able to capitalize, outscoring South Carolina 21-7 in the 2nd half as Austin Davis added 3 more touchdown passes to end the day with 4 in total. The lone South Carolina 2nd half touchdown came off a DL Moore 99 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.South Carolina Player Stats:QB Stephen Garcia: 3-5, 127 yards, 2 TDsHB Marcus Lattimore: 17 carries, 74 yards, 2 TDsWR Alshon Jeffery: 2 catches, 112 yards, 1 TDMLB Josh Dickerson: 3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INTNext week South Carolina hosts Georgia in a HUGE SEC matchup!

They'll Take It!North Carolina wins a tight battle in their season opener.North Carolina starts the year off like the opening kick off, with a bang! Kendrick Burney would take it to the house on a 99 yard kick return which set the tone. LSU would find themselves down 17-0 scoring just before halftime to put some pep back in their step. Every time LSU had momentum, UNC would steal it right back. UNC was just relentless on defense getting 5 picks. Johnny White had a huge game with 17 carries for 188 yards and 3 touchdowns.
DAM!!! That UNC defense is already at midseason form!!! ACC better watch out! Nice win CA
Clemson rolls over North TexasThis one was never in doubt. As soon as North Texas decided to play the Clemson Tigers there was no doubt who would win this game and Clemson came ready to play. Early on Clemson wanted to show that they could run the ball and did so scoring the first points on a 64 yard TD run by Andre Ellington. He would end up adding on 3 more before the game was over while Jamie Harper would add two and Tajh Boyd would find the endzone as well.Final Score:Clemson 49 North Texas 13Key Stats:Andre Ellington 18 attempts 139 yards 4 TDJamie Harper 19 attempts 28 yards 2 TD
UCF SPANKS #21 FLORIDA STATE
Florida State struggles against UCF in there home opener. TOO many penalties (ucf- 16-226 fsu 4-52) and turnovers (6) play a major factor in this contest. UCF jump out to an 21 point lead in the 1st, place kicker D. Hopkins would get the Noles on the board with a 24 yd field goal. 2nd qrt action FSU would pound the rock coming away with 2 TD runs from J. Thomas (13, 5). A FLIPPIN' WMiami comes out on top in an ugly way
Too many penalties (as you all know) and FAU raced out to a 24-7 lead before halftime. Miami fought back and after a few halftime adjustments the Hurricanes found some rhythm. In his debut QB Stephen Morris threw 3 touchdowns, but 4 interceptions. The Miami run game had no success today, and senior HB Graig Cooper will be getting the starting nod next week. One bright spot, LaRon Byrd did his best Micheal Irvin impersonation and he looks to be a stud for the Canes this season. The Canes defense had no success in forcing turnovers today, and that could spell a long season for Miami..
CAMNATIONCam Newton leads the Auburn Tigers to a 45-17 victory. He only threw 9 times completed 7 for over 100 yards and a score. He ran for another score. Michael Dyer rated by many to be the top prep RB prospect in the country for the 2010 class, scored twice. he dazzled the fans with a 53 yard score on a speed sweep out of the CAM Cat formation. The defense played decent asisde from their undisciplined facemask penalties scoring on a fumble return. The backups played the majority of the second half with backup QB Neil Caudle running the zone option for a score.
Virginia Tech Starts the Season Strong Against Boise State, Wins 41-31
The Hokies established a strong rushing game against the Broncos, rushing for over 200 yards and 3 TD's. Senior QB Tyrod Taylor threw for 119 yards and 1TD vs 1INT. VTech scored first on a 92 yard fumble return, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. Looking to score once again after forcing Boise State to punt, disaster struck as Boise State returned an INT 98 yards for the tying score. The defenses on both teams dominated the first half, which ended in a 10-10 score.
The offense finally picked up, as VTech outscored Boise State 21-7 in the third quarter, lead by two rushing touchdowns by Ryan Williams. Boise State would close the gap to 31-38, but could not recover the onside kick. "This was a great statement win," said QB Tyrod Taylor. "We wanted to show the nation what we're all about. Hopefully this momentum continues."
The facemasking in this game was OUT OF FREAKIN CONTROL. I kid you not, there was about 12 facemasks...by halftime. That rate basically continued throughout the second half. Pretty ridiculous lol.
my tigers got raped, end of story, and yes, im pressing full charges. jordan jefferson...lawd help me
#15 Oklahoma 34
FSU falls to 0-2 with lost in Norman. The Noles 2nd half rally wasn't enough to pull off the upset against Oklahoma. Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder threw for over 400 yds 2TD's and 4 Interceptions! lol. He would also contribute a rushing TD. TE Beau Reliford had 10 rec, 142 yds an 2 TD. Junior WR Taiwan Easterling lead the Noles receivers with 159 yds.
**PLAYERS OF THE GAME**
FSU: C.Ponder 26-45, 435 yds, 6 car 11yds, 2 TD (1 Rush)
OU: J. Fleming 5 Tkls, ATK, INT, FMBREC
next week the Noles host Baylor
Arkansas 34 ULM 17
Arkansas started flat without Ryan Mallet at QB. They were down 17-7 after first quarter. Wilson, Wright, and Davis led the offense back outscoring ULM 27-0 over final 3 quarters.
Davis had 2 rushing tds, Wright was POG with 2 receiving tds. Wilson threw 2 TD passes and also threw 3 ints.
Up next Georgia between the hedges.
Fallen Star _ Cam Newton's 3 interceptions plague the Tigers in StarkeVegas.
Cam Newton couldnt get it done when his team needed him in a hostile environment. The signal caller threw three picks and Auburn fumbled away another for 4 TO's on the day. Wes Byrum mister automatic had a chance to extend a 3 point lead late in the fourth only to see his kick clang off th crossbar. The field position was key and the Bulldogs would line up for a 50 yard FG to tie and converted. In OT tied at 17 or 20 Newton threw his third pick on third and long and MSU would convert another FG to take the win.
Very disappointing game, no rushing attack and too many mistakes. Auburn has got to right the ship or they can call this season a wash.
Virginia Tech Flexes Muscles Against Tennessee, Wins 31-14
One week after their incredible win against Boise State, Virginia Tech looked like they might have had a hangover. The Volunteers moved down the field at will on their first drive, capped by an 18-yard TD catch by Luke Stocker. However, VTech would let the homecrowd know that they would not be rattled, as they responded with a methodical drive of their own to set up a 2-yard run by Darren Evans. On Tennessee's next play, QB Tyler Bray would be picked off, resulting in another TD run by VTech, this time by backup Ryan Williams. In addition to holding the Volunteers scoreless for the rest of the half, VTech managed to tack on another 10 points, displaying an unrelentless and punishing ground attack. The third quarter would see the Hokies score a TD through the air for the only time in the game, this time a 46-yard catch by Jarrett Boykins. QB Tyrod Taylor zipped the ball between two defenders and Boykins did the rest, eluding a tackle and tip-toeing the sideline for the score.
The Volunteers' fans were stunned, as VTech had rolled off 31 consecutive points and ran the ball at will against the young Tennesee defense. Taurean Poole would make the score a little bit more respectable with a nice TD run. VTech ran the ball to kill time on their next possession and left with the victory. Taylor completed 12 of 14 passes for 246 yards and 1TD while workhorse Evans ran the ball 32 times for 139 yards and 2TD's.
Good game Onaradio, always a pleasure man. Let it be known, he dominated me 24-9 prior to this game in our Michigan vs Oregon matchup for BfR (good lordy, can I do ANYTHING with Oregon in that dynasty?!?!?!), so he was probably exhausted and didn't want me to go to bed with two straight losses on my mind. That's very classy and well-appreciated, man
ggwork fellas this OD is turning around
South Carolina Miracle!!!Gamecocks Steal One at Home Against Georgia28-24This game was billed as the GOTW for week 2 of this early season and boy did it live up to the hype! South Carolina won the toss and elected to kick off, and all seemed to be going to plan as a run by now gain was followed by a sack of Georgia QB Murray for 10 yards forcing Georgia into an early 3rd and 20 deep in their own half of the field. However, Murray would drop back and hit his TE Charles for a 31 yard gain and that would be the catalyst in a drive which ended with Murray hitting White for an 8 yard score. 7-0 Georgia.South Carolina got the ball and after 3 straight runs and a 1st down, tried going to the air, but a 1st down drop by Alshon Jeffery on a long bomb would be followed by another incompletion and a sack as the Gamecocks were forced to punt. The South Carolina defense again forced Georgia into a 3rd down, this time 3rd and 9, but never fear, Murray would again come up big, hitting Green for a ridiculous 1 handed grab for a 30 yard gain (highlight to be uploaded on hub) as the first quarter came to a close with Georgia up 7-0.Georgia would continue their second drive of the game into the 2nd quarter, where they added a 46 yard field goal to make it 10-0. Now South Carolina knew they had to come up with something on offense. First play, 4 yard pass to DL Moore. Second Play, 6 yard pass to DL Moore. Third play, 19 yard run by Lattimore. Then with the defense showing an all out blitz, Garcia stepped back and was rocked by the Georgia defense, but was able to JUST get the ball away as Jeffery managed to catch the ball, run past his defender who fell down, and spin past the safety for a 45 yard score and South Carolina were back in it, down 10-7.Georgia came back out on offense, and after yet another run for no gain Murray dropped back for a pass, but someone on the line didn't account for ROLB Shaq Wilson, who got through untouched and forced Murray to fumble the ball which was recovered by MLB Dickerson for a touchdown and all of a sudden South Carolina had their first lead of the game, 14-7.Not to be denied, Georgia came back out and on a overload blitz play Murray had just enough time to find a WIDE OPEN target in King for an easy 49 yard score and that would be it for the first half with Georgia up 17-14.There would be no scoring in the 3rd quarter (where Lanning-South Carolina's kicker-inexplicably missed a 30 yard FG wide right), so onto the 4th!Lanning would miss his 2nd FG of the night with 6:49 left in the game, but this one was from 53 yards out, giving Georgia excellent field position. Knowing that a Georgia TD would probably be the end of the game, South Carolina came with a heavy blitz on 2nd and 11 and rushed Murray into a throw which was intercepted by free safety Auguste. With new life, South Carolina went on a scoring drive which culminated with a 1 yard run by Lattimore, giving South Carolina the lead again at 21-17. Georgia would not go down quietly, using the clock perfectly as they went on a 2 and a half minute drive, ending with a 6 yard run by Ealey with 40 seconds left on the clock to put Georgia up 24-21. After the kick return South Carolina had 32 seconds to score, and they came out gunning as Garcia would find Jeffery for 14 yards, Barnes for 24, Barnes for 19, and DL Moore for 12 yards, setting South Carolina up with 1st and goal from the 5 with 8 seconds left. Garcia dropped back, and saw a wide open receiver in Smith who was able to keep control of the ball after a bone jarring hit for a touchdown as the crowd went into euphoria. South Carolina went up 28-24 and with Murray's last ditch pass going incomplete, the Gamecocks were able to steal one early on against a big time rival.GOOD GAME ND!!! WOW, was an awesome game!
Upset CityCanes go to the Horseshoe and steal one
QB Jacory Harris starts his first game of the season and excels. With his experience under center, Harris led the Canes to a come from behind win over the #2 ranked Buckeyes. tOSU ran out to a 28-14 lead, and then were blanked in the second half thanks to a stingy Miami defense that forced two interceptions and a fumble. Graig Cooper's first run of the game was an untouched 85 yard scamper that tied the game at 7-7 early in the first half. Miami now gets a week of rest after a tough game.
Tarheels take down Georgia Tech in Chapel HillTriple Option doesn't do much against this defense.
Keenan Memorial was buzzing this week as the #17 North Carolina Tarheels took on the #11 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Despite losing the turnover battle, UNC was able to capitalize on GT's mistakes. Down 3-0 in the 2nd quarter, GT was inside our 10. They tried to pass into the end zone but Da Norris Searcy made a huge play and intercepted the pass, giving us the ball at our 2. After a couple of runs we found ourselves with a little breathing room. Bryn Renner would hit Greg Little on a slant and Little took it 89 yards for a Tarheel touchdown. We scored just before halftime on a 2 yard run by Johnny White. Ga Tech would notch 2 field goals and a touchdown, scoring 13 unanswered points. Ryan Houston would score the last points of the game on an 11 yard toss to put the Heels on top. Georgia Tech wouldn't be able to make the comeback. North Carolina improves to 2-0 (1-0) with the 21-17 win over the Yellow Jackets. Bryn Renner didn't have a great game throwing 2 picks but he did go 10-20 for 238 yards and 1 touchdown. Johnny White carried 23 times for 73 yards and 1 touchdown. Greg Little had a big day with 3 receptions for 127 yards and 1 touchdown.
North Carolina State hangs their hats on their third win of the season, and their best win so far. After a rough opening game in which they surrendered 66 points to the visiting Commodores, the NC State defense has looked much improved these past two weeks, only giving up an average of 19 points. This week they managed to hold the Cincinnati Bearcats in check. They forced 4 turnovers in the contest, 2 in the air and 2 on the ground, while keeping the ball for themselves on the Wolfpack possessions. The big key in this game was true freshman RB Mustafa Greene making an impact on the ground. Greene carried the rock 17 times for 114 yards and 1 touchdown. Russell Wilson managed the game well, going 20 of 27 for 211 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also added one on the ground. On the defensive side of the ball, Nate Irving continues to shine. He added another 13 tackles today, including another 3 for losses. He also had a forced fumble on the day. NC State marched through this game, winning 28-17 with their last possession ending in the victory formation in the red zone. Up next for this squad is their first road game, visiting the Georgia Tech Rambling Wreck.
Gators Too Much For Young Vols
Tennessee gave the #5 ranked Florida Gators a hell of a battle for 3 quarters. In the 4th, however, the Vol's lack of depth and abundance of youth were overwhelmed. After tying the game 13-13 near the end of the 3rd, Vol fans thought they had an upset in the making. Florida would score the next 10 before Denarious Moore took a pass 80 yards to get the Vols back within 3, 23-20. Florida would strike back two plays later when Brantly found Demps in the flat. Demps turned on the jets and after making one man miss was off to the races. Neither team would score again to make the final 30-20.
True Freshman Tyler Bray was 15-30 for 311 yards, 2TD's and 1 INT. Florida harassed him all day, coming up with 4 sacks and countless hits on the qb. Final rushing stats saw UT at 22 total for the game.
Tennessee (1-2, 0-1) hosts UAB next week before a grueling stretch of LSU ( fordtuff), UGA (Ndcolts), Alabama, South Carolina (Zikry). A win is crucial as a 2-6 start is very possible.
LSU was able to bounce back from week one's humiliating loss to CA's UNC Tarheels by thrashing rival Vandy 52 17
dispite lossing starting QB Jordan Jefferson, LSU's offense was able to shine thanks to Jarret Lee who completed 17 passes for 347 yards and 2td's
The Tigers keep on rolling as they went on the road to visit Miss St. first half was a battle, the tigers were even down in the second half but the Tiger D finally decided to shut the bulldogs down by getting the ball back to the offense 4 times, all ints. Jarret Lee still improving, throwing for 400 yards
