Michigan State hosted Illinois to a top 25 battle. Not knowing about Illinois, the Spartans came in wondering what to expect. The game started out slow. The Illini punted on the first drive. State was able to push for a first drive score when TE James Crum scrambled to a 68 yrd TD catch from Payne. STATE 7-0
Illinois came right back with a great drive topped off with an Adam Dawson run for a 3yd TD. 7-7

This is where the game was decided. Michigan State looked to take control when T.J. Williams caught a hard pass from Payne for a 51yrd TD. 31-21 State. Illinois came right back with a tough drive that ended when RB Chase Jones took it 4yrds for a TD. 31-28 State. The Spartans called on the option and QB Chad Smith held on for a 74yrd TD run. 38-28 Spartans. Illinois was't giving up just yet, they pass it down the field at ease and Robertson finds the endzone for a third time with a 32yrd TD catch. 38-35 Michigan State. The Spartans move the ball enough to run the clock out....

    Final 38-35
