dooz's initial foray into management was an up-and-down affair. An early run of good form saw dooz and his Bremen side looking like a lock for promotion and the side was able to qualify from a tough group in the Coppa Tradizione. The season is long, though, and Bremen quickly found itself in a deep losing streak that tumbled the team out of the top half of the table in Serie C and out of the Tradizione in the round of 16.

Invigorated by the strong play of reserve striker Akpala saw the team make a late run at top 3 finish but were ultimately doomed by a draw against one of teams mired in the bottom of the table prompted the board to fire dooz before the final match of the season.

dooz was not out of work long, as he took an opportunity to manage the Portland Timbers in an off-season tourney. The Timbers, despite being one of the weakest sides on paper in the competition, qualified out of the group and gave eventual the eventual champs Crystal Palace (and Serie A manager Zikry) a tough match in the quarters.

On the strength of his attacking play in the tourney and his defensive reputation from his playing days, dooz was hired on by Sao Paulo SC Corinthians Paulista.

Tough loss for Marseille in the season opener as Pato slotted home the winner in the 90' minute. Though the French side didn't have much success going forward, they played stout defense in and around the box and forced the Brazilians out wide. Finally, though, in the 90' minute, Emerson laid a pass off to Pato, who turned inside his defender and scored with rocket left foot shot from about 12 yards away.

A very open game led to numerous chances for both teams. PSV keeper Tyton certainly played like one, making two great saves in the 1st 20 minutes before Renato Augusto slipped a square pass into Pato who got a touch to it before the defender and was in 1 on 1 with keeper, which he coolly slotted home with the outside of his right. PSV continued to find ways to counter and had two breakaways that forced nice saves from Cassio. A controversial moment saw Corinthians clear a defensive corner out to Pato who was alone at midfield and in on the keeper. Tyton came out more than 35 yards to tackle Pato without getting the ball (as far as I could tell; didn't make the highlight reel). Tyton avoided a foul, let alone the red card for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. Ultimately, however, Pato was able to find an open net on a 2 on 1 late in the match to secure the 3 points and bringing his tally to 4 in 3 league games and 5 in 4 games overall.

Corinthians were able to hand Saint Etienne it's first uncontested loss of in league play behind strong defensive play and a timely goal from the scorching-hot Alexandre Pato. Despite the French manager immediately deeming the result a "luck win", Corinthians were able to execute its gameplan perfectly. The Brazilian defense played deep and allowed the French side possession in the attacking areas of the pitch but were strong in the tackle and forced most of Saint Etienne's shots from outside the box (12 of 16 shots came from outside the box). The Brazilian counter-attack produced a number of nice chances, including a breakaway that Etienne's keeper was able to deny. Following a second harsh booking on Henrique, the Brazilians were undeterred and produced a counter that led to a header in the 88' minute to seal the game (which, incidentally, didn't register as a shot in the match details). The victory came with a heavy price, as Henrique will sit out the next match, as will Renato Augusto with his 2nd yellow of the campaign.

What a match! Back and forth. Bent scores on a breakaway early, Pato answers with a terrific finish poking past a diving Given. Then, late in the second half, Villa commit a foul right outside the box. Corinthians loads the box with 9 players and cross it in, however Villa defends the header and clears it out to a sprinting Agbonlahor. He makes one defender miss and is off to the races placing a rocket in the top corner right before the clock expires!

Another wild match in group G saw another late winner. The scoring opened early, with an Olympiakos striker skinning his defender with a great turn in the box. His shot required a diving save from keeper Cassio but the rebound fell to Fuster, who slotted it into the empty net from a reasonably tight angle. Pato continued his torrid pace and found the equalizer with a sliding touch that just beat the Greek keeper.
In the 70', the Olympiakos attacker was able to shed off a defender in the box again and blasted on frame. Cassio again was able to get a hand to it but it fell to Abdoun to calmly finish and put his team ahead. The lead would not last long, however, with Guerrero slotting home a first-time finish from Pato through ball in the box.
The winner came in the 88' as Augusto burned his mark and carried along the touch line into the box and lifted a soft cross into the 6 yard box that target-man Guerrero was able to nod home.
The game was not over, though, not by a "long shot". Olympiakos quickly built an attack following the goal and had a couple of chances late and even cracked a shot from well inside the box that left the Cassio rooted to his spot. The shot, however, blasted off the inside of the far upper 90 and the Brazilian defense was able to scramble the ball away.
Of the 41 tackles in the match, only one was deep inside either team's defensive 3rd (which was returned) and another was just barely over the half-line. The other 39 tackles were deep in each team's respective defense halves and illustrates just how attacking this game was. Great game, slicknick. You're my early favorite for the title in Serie C.

What was seemingly a "soft" PK earned Pato a second chance from the spot in as many games. Pato went the same way as his miss against Stoke and again the keeper got a hand to it but was unable to turn it around the post. The replay shows that the foul was actually called on the defender who was guarding the original shot-taker, not the keeper who collided with Pato as he tried to score the rebound, as the Corinthians coach initially thought.
The 2nd goal came from a corner as CB Gil was able to get his head to an in-swinging corner just inside the 6 yard box and bounced it under the keeper from close range. Mineiro had some decent chances, particularly a couple from tight, but make-able angles, but were unable to hit the frame. Pato and Emerson, in his first start of the season, had a number of chances to seal the game away in the 2nd half but put the ball right to the keeper with each shot.

Corinthians finally got goals from attacking players not named Pato. Henrique nodded home a short cross from the edge of the 6 yard box into an open net. Guerrero fired home from the top of the box, Emerson added a header from a soft Paulinho cross and Pato sealed the game with right-footed blast from the edge of the box that the Fluminense defender was unable to deflect.

The scoreline deceives with this match as Stuttgart deserved at least a point but Pato continued his amazing form with a strike from about 20 yards in the 60' against the run of play. Pato sealed the game with a late goal.

An extremely open game produced 35 shots and 21 on target as both teams went end-to-end the entire match. While it could be argued that PSV should have done more with 14 shots on target, Corinthians was also awarded a clear penalty kick on which Pato slipped and skied over the goal as if he was blind-folded (no accuracy meter on the attempt). There really could have been 4 goals a piece in this game, as both teams missed point-blank headers and Corinthians failed to convert on two different break-away opportunities.
PSV scored first from a corner kick, with Toivonen nodding home in the 16'. Corinthians CB Chicao equalized in 21' from almost a mirrored version of Toivonen's goal. In the 36' minute, PSV defender Willems dragged down Jorge Henrique as he attempted a volley from about 10 yards out and earned the PK, which Pato epically failed. Guerrero scored the winner in the 68' from an assist from 2nd half sub Emerson, though both teams created a number of opportunities through the final 22 minutes.

The result deceives as Marseille had a number of good chances that they just couldn't quite put past Cassio in the Corinthians net. Guerrero opened the scoring with a nice shot off the post of the far lower corner and added a second from right in the front of the net. Andre Ayew took it on his own shoulders to pull the match back to 2-1 with a long run, skinning Gil in the process and finishing cooly from just outside the 18. This match could have been any number of score lines, from 1-1 to 3-3.

Emerson got his first start due to a Jorge Henrique suspension and hasn't looked back. Despite playing in a little deeper role than normally accustomed, Emerson has excelled tallying assists and goals and providing Pato and Guerrero with a dynamic player coming off the wings to keep the defense honest. Guerrero has stepped up as well, scoring the winner 3 minutes after Charlie Adam's header equalized the match.

Hamburg could have taken the early lead on what looked like a penalty call that either wasn't called or advantage was given, as the ball fell to a striker who blasted it off a charging Cassio. From there, however, it was mostly Corinthians creating the chances and Pato found the net twice.
Interestingly, there were 3 "injuries" listed but not a single foul call. Good strong tackling in this game.

In a long-delayed match, Stuttgart finally faced off against Corinthians. Despite the shots-on-goal difference, this match was much more even than the stats indicate. Stuttgart very nearly opened the tally in the 127th minute when a deflected shot fell right to the boot of Ibrahima Traore, but the Ivorian's attempt on goal rattled off the woodwork. Stuttgart did get on the board in the waning moments of the first half with one of the prettiest goals in the team's history. Martin Harnik took a perfectly weighted through ball from Vedad Ibisevic and had two steps on both of his trailing defenders, but a bad angle on the net. Daniel Didavi was trying to create space in the middle to receive a pass, but his defenders weren't leaving his side. Harnik took maters into his own hands, stopping on a dime about 10 yards from the net, cutting back inside, getting the ball back onto his strong foot and lacing it into the top corner.

Corinthians came out in the second half with a new strategy - get the ball to pacey Alexandre on the right and have him cross it in to Paolo Guerrero. For 15 minutes, Corinthians tried this strategy again and again, as Alexandre's pace and acceleration put him a half step ahead of his left back mark, but the defenders in the middle, or 'keeper Sven Ulreich, kept the Brazilians off the board. Finally the strategy paid off when, at the 62nd minute, the right defensive midfielder Paulinho sent in a cross just behind the entire back line of Stuttgart, but within toe-poke range of Guerrero.
"I don't know what else I could have done," Frenchie said. "I supposed I could have moved one of my fast wings back to my left back to cover that same guy crossing over and over, but short of that, I did all I could. I blocked crosses at the source where I could and interfered with them in the box where I could. I suppose this was just a matter of the law of averages coming to bite me. I can't fault dooz's strategy if it got him the result he was looking for."
Stuttgart has two remaining matches, a home game against Ajax and a road trip to Wolfsburg.
"It's been a long, tough season for us," Frenchie said. "A forgettable one, there's no doubt. I'm glad we don't have to leave the country for these two final engagements, and then I'm looking forward to a little time off to evaluate my future."

A cracker of a match saw two late goals, one from the spot for Ajax and one for Pato, giving him the clubhouse lead for the golden boot.
