"The 2016 Stanford Cardinal will be nothing like the 2015 Stanford Cardinal" says new Head Coach CJ Ransom. It's time for the Cardinals to be the bird of prey and take back what is ours. Well that is easier said than done but at least the coach will have some help. JR QB Michael Coley is back after throwing for 2,738 yards and 19 touchdowns. Coley is a good pocket passer but he must improve on his 49.9% completion percentage for the Cardinal to get better than their 7-6 record from last year. Coley will also have the services of senior RB Barry Sanders( the son of the great Detroit Lions running back) who coming off a down junior year which he only rushing for 750 yards. Also back is senior wideout Kevin Lawson who's 73 receptions and 1,096 yards lead the team last year. Offensively look for the Cardinal to still run a pro-style offense with different personnel. The schedule makers were also not too kind to Stanford as they face 6 ranked opponents in the first two months of the season. They start off the season against defending champ Arizona State and that should be a good one.

The second game of the year and the 1st conference road game of the year prove to be what the Stanford Cardinals needed before their game against USC next week. Stanford was very well offensively scoring 28 unanswered points to start off the game as Stanford beats Colorado 42-14. Barry Sanders recorded his 1st 100-yard game of the year with 114 yards and 2 touchdowns. Michael Coley rebounded from his game against Arizona State by completing 12-14 for 213 yards and a touchdown. What was going well today was the running game of Stanford as it went for 183 yards and 5 touchdowns. Sanders had 2 touchdowns, backup RB Jeff Harrison, FB Lamont Moore, and Coley had a TD each. Sanders said after the game"My o-line was very good today. We want to run behind the big boys and wear this team down". Next week Stanford travels to face rival USC.

The Cardinals went against an USC team that has put up a lot of points during the first two weeks of the college football season. The defense made some big plays against the potent USC offense forcing Brady Barnett to throw 3 interceptions and sacking him 3 times. The bad news was Barnett threw 3 deep passes all to Jon Petty and the offense was pleagued with drops and missed opportunites which lead to the Cardinals losing 31 to 21. Coach Ransom after the game said "You cant go 3 for 12 on 3rd down and expect to win the game". Sanders didnt have the best game running the ball but contribute to the passing game with 116 yards receiving. At the end of the day the Trojans made more plays and therefore won the tough hard contest. Next week Stanford is once again on the road as they take on Washington State.
