There was worry that there would be a hangover from the heartbreaking loss last week to Utah which saw the Cardinal defense implode as they gave up a late TD after watching their offense play a near flawless game. They returned to the comfort of home looking to get back on the winning track and lock up the Pac 12 North. Stanford started the game on defense and forced a stop on the first drive. On the Cardinal offensive series, John Darby led them down the field and capped off the drive with a 27 yard TD pass off a play action to put Stanford up 7-0. There would be no more scoring in the quarter as the Cardinal defense continued it's solid play. After a field goal by Justin Rowe put them up 10-0, the Cardinal defense kept the Beavers out of the endzone once again as talented Freshman FS Eddie Craft picked off Ross Blount for the first of his two INTs in the endzone. The Cardinal went on to add another FG to put the score at 13-0 and had solid control of momentum. Oregon State finally got on the board with an impressive drive ending with a 34 yd TD pass from backup QB Luke Roberts to Obum Gwachum. Trying to put some points on the board at the end of the half, Darby was picked off on an excellent defensive play by their middle linebacker. The Beavers knocked in a 52 yd FG at the end of the half to close the lead to 3. On Stanford's first play of the 2nd half, HB Remound Wright ran up the gut untouched for an 84 yd TD. The Cardinal D then tightened up and never allowed Oregon St to muster up offense, picking off Oregon State QBs 4 more times in the half. Darby connected with WR Brian McCoy for his 2nd TD of the game early in the 4th quarter, then Remound Wright closed the scoring with a 5 yd TD run to give the Cardinal a 34-10 win. The story of the game was the Cardinal D as they picked off the Beavers 5 times, two of which were by Craft as well as two from MLB James Vaughters. QB John Darby continued his hot streak passing going 16-20 racking up 279 yds and 2 TD. In his last two games Darby has put up 835 yds on 47-58 passing with 5 TD and an INT. Wright finished the game with 160 yds and 2 TD on 19 carries. Next week the Cardinal welcome struggling Arizona St for another Pac 12 matchup.
