Fresh off their contoversial National Title win, Stanford is fully motivated to prove they are worthy of their championship. They were provided with an early test in the 2012 season as they welcomed the #24 ranked Georgia Bulldogs into Palo Alto. Senior HB Stepfan Taylor set the tone early breaking off a few good runs on the first drive. Later on a few yards outside of the redzone, Andrew Luck found Jamal Patterson on a post for a 21 yard TD. After stopping Georgia on the subsequent drive, the Cardinal drove down the field again with Taylor capping off the drive with a 1 yd TD run. Georgia got on the board shortly thereafter as Aaron Murray connected with Rantavious Wooten on a 68 yd deep ball which was misplayed by Stanford's SS. On Stanford's next drive Taylor broke off a 41 TD run on a simple dive play to put them up 21-7. After trading interceptions, Stanford put another 7 points on the board as Luck found Patterson again for a 10 yd TD. Towards the end of the 2nd quarter, Luck threw his 3rd TD of the game as he found Drew Terrell in the back of the endzone on a perfectly executed PA pass for a 51 yd TD. By the end of the 1st half, Stanford had the game in hand 38-7.

On the first drive of the 2nd half, Taylor broke off another big TD run, this time for 72 yds to put the Cardinal up 45-7. The rest of the game saw both teams running out the clock. The Bulldogs did put together a couple scoring drives late.

Stanford starts the 2012 season with an impressive 48-21 win. They have a bye next week before taking on Colorado.

    Andrew Luck: 12-17, 246 yds, 3 TD, 2 INT
Stepfan Taylor: 24 carries, 233 yds, 3 TD
Drew Terrell: 4 rec, 103 yds, TD
Jamal Patterson: 4 rec, 86 yds, 2 TD
