Big plays were the name of the game in this one as the Cardinal scored six 40+ yard TDs en route to their 52-17 win. After the Wolverines scored on a pick six off a busted RB screen play, the Stanford offense got it together. On Stanford's next drive, 3rd team RB Bobby May took a stretch play 73 yds to the house thanks to a nice stiff arm of a Michigan defender and some nifty running down field. On the next Cardinal drive starter Anthony Manson broke a 52 yard run for a TD. Michigan would cut the lead to four points thanks to a 59 yd FG. Late in the 2nd quarter, Joey Robison found WR Brian McCoy in the endzone for a 53 yd TD. He threw it up as McCoy had two defenders on him but McCoy maneuvered his way in position to make the catch and keep his feet in. The Wolverines attempted to make a late quarter drive to get in position to score but would be intercepted. On the first play off the interception, Robison found Brian Peoples on a curl route, after the Michigan defender missed the tackle, People's would take it in for a 40 yd TD. At the end of the first half it was 28-10 Cardinal. Stanford would extend the lead to 42-10 as backup HB Adam Cooper took a draw play 27 yards untouched for a TD. Then the next Stanford possession Robison found McCoy wide open deep off a shotgun PA pass as McCoy burned the Michigan safety for a 58 yd TD. The Wolverines would score shortly thereafter but too little too late. Bobby May capped off the scoring with his second TD, this time a 45 yd run. Stanford's 3 headed monster at HB is putting in work thus far and look to continue their success next week as they travel to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers.
