Well this was a meeting between two supremely talented teams, but looking for a big win to jump start their seasons. However this one was a bit of a stinker at times. Penn State would kick off to start the game and Stanford would get a couple first downs with the pass game. Then on a simple playaction pass from Alex Evans, TE Dylan Garrett would show his running ability as he would go 65 yards weaving through the Penn State defense for the first TD. Penn State would then be stopped on their first drive and have to punt back to Stanford. Evans would complete his second big pass play when he hit WR James Freeman on a corner route that was not played well by the corner and Freeman would run the rest of the way for a 53 yd TD. Penn State would finally get on the board when James Rogers beat Stanford CB Eddie Brock deep for a 50 yd TD. This is where the turnovers started to rear their ugly head. After being stopped on their subsequent drive Stanford would pick off Sean Watkins when Eddie Brock jumped in front of James Rogers on a corner route.

Stanford would score again at the beginning of the 2nd quarter on 2nd and long following a sack when Evans would get his 3rd TD of the game on a screen pass to HB Adam Cooper. Shortly after, the Cardinal would get it right back when MLB Jeff Austin picked off Watkins right at the line of scrimmage where his 5'9" height probably made him hidden when Watkins attempted to hit his TE across the middle. Stanford would convert this turnover into a FG to make it 24-7. On the next Penn State offensive play Eddie Brock would haul in his 2nd INT of the game and take it to the house to increase the lead to 31-7. At the end of the half, threatening to score again, Evans would throw his 2nd INT which was almost taken in for a TD but the corner was tackled inside the 10 yd line. Penn State would put it in the endzone on a 6 yd TD run by HB Dustin Scott. After gaining a first down on a run, Stanford would attempt to pass when they probably should have kneeled it out, this led to another INT by Evans. Penn State had an opportunity to cut the lead to 13 but Watkins would throw an INT in the endzone to end the half.

The third quarter saw Penn State cut the lead to 34-24 thanks to another INT by Alex Evans. By this time his 3 big TD passes early in the game were a distant memory and Coach HotRod had enough of him and yanked him. In comes RS Soph Jimmy Johnson. At the beginning of the 3rd quarter Johnson would throw a beautiful pass to Charles Robinson for a 23 yd TD to put the score at 41-24. This is where the scoring would end. Stanford would intercept Watkins a couple more times in the quarter and leave Happy Valley with the win.

Both teams struggled to run as the defenses were not allowing any holes for the backs to run through. The teams combined for 10 INT on the game as PSU would through 6 to Stanford's 4.
