What a shame, baseball's white knight out for 2 years potentially. He single handedly was bringing fans back to baseball one by one. Lets hope he can come through with this and doesn't end up like Mark Prior.

Tell me about it! Finally putting pieces together that brings about excitement and now this happens. I tell you the DC area is cursed!! If its not this its Gil bringing guns into the locker room effectively ending the Wizards season, or Snyder spending money on has-been players or know nothing coaches, or the Capital getting bounced in the 1st round after having the best record in the league.

Mark Prior was exactly what I was thinking. While Prior never had Tommy John (most of his problems were with his shoulder), to think of how just how great he could have been over the stretch of an entire career really leaves you wondering, and hoping Strasburg doesn't wander down the same path.

With Prior, he didn't have a major injury like this early in his career. His first four seasons in the bigs he managed at least 19 starts a season, including 30 in '03 and 27 in '05. It was lesser injuries that would keep him out for a few weeks here, a few weeks there, but there was always something wrong, holding him back. Then in '06 the shoulder problems started and it was all downhill from there. There were several guys in that group drafted between like '99 and '01 that you saw glimpses of how great they could be but always were hurt. Prior, Rich Harden, Ben Sheets, Erik Bedard.

With this happening to Strasburg so early in his career, hopefully those few starts we saw weren't it and he doesn't join the list of what-ifs...

Throwing motion on both guys weren't the norm for both these guys. I read that a scout had said this would happen while both guys were about to get drafted. Sad story for both of them.

Yeah, I never read anything on Strasburg, but I remember for Prior, a major thing for he was he supposedly had some of the best pitching mechanics ever and a seemingly effortless delivery. But in reality his pitching motion was causing more stress on the shoulder than the norm and his mechanics were such that his injuries were inevitable.
