    Bulls win BCS Bowl

The Big East champion South Florida Bulls got strong performances from several of its seniors, as they defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 42-32 in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

The Bulls, who entered the contest ranked #14, unleashed an air raid against the BigXII champs from Lawrence. QB Matt Grothe set a USF record for passing yards in a single game with 385 through the air, 156 of which went to impact wideout Jesse Hester. Junior Receiver Dontavia Bogan also contributed with 92 yards receiving and a touchdown.

The USF defense played well considering that they were often at a disadvantage because of turnovers by the Bull offense. Senior Mike Linebacker Kion Wilson was all over the field making a team high 11 tackles. Junior Defensive End Jason Pierre Paul had a sack along with 4 tackles.

The Bulls are hoping that this win will spark interest in potential recruits and provide a spring board for next year's season.

    Bulls Gore Gators!

    USF 28
    UF 27

Many wondered what the USF Bulls would do now that the Matt Groethe era was over. Where would the playmaking and leadership come from? Well, today sophomore QB B.J. Daniels answered those who had questions by leading the Bulls into Gainseville and pulling out a one point victory against the top-ranked Florida Gators.

Daniels was 21-33 for 361 yards and 3 touchdowns. The signature play of this game came 18 seconds left as Daniels found fellow sophomore Sterling Griffin for the game winning 37 yard touchdown. The Bulls had started the drive on their own 20 yard line with 1:20 on the clock and no timeouts. After being sacked by Carlos Dunlap, who was almost unstoppable in the second half, on first down, Daniels got hot and completed 4 straight passes.

It was not a banner day for the USF defense as a unit, but two young Bulls stepped up their games. Redshirt frosh free safety led all tacklers with 12 stops, while his classmate defensive end Ryne Giddins contributed 3 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.

The win moves the Bulls to 2-0 on the young season. The USF roadshow ( 5 straight road games) will continue next week in Chapel Hill, as the Bulls look forward to a top 10 showdown with the North Carolina Tarheels.
