I've seen it work pretty well other team off guard. I recommend a once per season rule.... should be rarely used.

should be banned if not already

also states in the rules mics are MANDATORY

yet ive had numerous pvp games where they go for it on 4th down or go for onside kick and dont tell me beforehand which is wrong

if it's inside the rules why should they have to tell you? why not wait for the Offense to select their play before you select yours as it will tell you what they are doing..

Once per season is the rule.

do you pick you defense before the offense picks a play? ... you can tell if they are going for it. It wont say "punt" for the offensive lineup detail

If you let your opponent know...then it wouldn't be a surprise...

It's not hard to audible to onside recover formation. And any play on this whole site should be smart enough to allow them the time to get into said formation, if they don't then I would complain.

If it's the surprise onside kick........why would you allow them to audible into an onside return? Doesn't make much sense to me.....

Because in a surprise onside they shouldn't see it coming, so you wouldn't allow them to audible. If you call a regular onside and your opponent is in normal kick return, they should have the chance to audible to onside recover. I have never attempted the surprise or have had one used on me so I'm not sure if Madden makes it obvious.
