Columbia, SC- The Carolina Tar Heels had a huge week 1 matchup against Carolinean rival the USC Gamecocks.. Both teams had some hated words for the anticipated matchup. Coach Taylor about USC, "I thought USC played in California not South Carolina." Clowney's response, "Coach Taylor can shut his mouth. Renner is scared of our defensive line."
The game definitely lived up to the hype. Both teams came out blazing in the first half scoring a combined 49 points in the first half. Both defenses seemed to struggle the entire game, but North Carolina was able to make the stops when it mattered. Clowney had a decent game with 3 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble which was recovered by UNC. Renner however, had an outstanding game. Renner went 22/34 with 389 yards passing, 3 passing touchdowns, and 1 rushing touchdown. Had a few rushing yards on rushes, but could not develop much from the option. To have continued success the Tar Heels will need to develop a better option and running game. Next week the Tar Heels will travel up to Michigan to take on an underrated Western Michigan Broncos team.

Kalamazoo, Michigan- Coming off a win against highly ranked USC Gamecocks, the Tarheels were in perfect place against the Western Michigan Broncos. The Broncos came off an exciting week 1 win against the Michigan State Spartans. Coach Taylor, "We can not take the Broncos lightly. We just saw them beat the Spartans. So we have to practice hard all week, spend time in the film room, and play our asses off on Saturday when we travel to Michigan."

The Tarheels started off with a solid first drive, but had to settle for a field goal. The Broncos also had a fg in the first quarter to leave the game tied at 3. The second quarter is when UNC starting playing some good football. They had a fg and two field goals. A TD pass by Renner to Davis and then also a short TD run by AJ Blue. The Broncos were able to get a TD in the second quarter as well to go into half time with the Tarheels up 10.

The second half seemed to just be both teams trading blows.. With both teams scoring 21 points in the second half.. The three TD's were all by Renner who was the game MVP. Renner went 19/25 for 299 yards, 3 passing TD's, 1 rushing TD, and 1 interceptioin. The Tarheel defense did struggle this week, but there saving grace in this game was turnovers. The Tarheels only had 1 turnover, while the Broncos coughed up the ball 4 times. All by which were mistakes by Van Tubbergen

Week 3 is approaching.. The Tarheels have a much needed bye week to work on a few things before taking on the awkward triple option of Georgia Tech in Week 4, and a highly ranked Texas Longhorn team in week 5.
