    Preseason Writeup

    Offense:

    Quarterbacks:
Redshirt Sophomore Casey Pachall is ready to take the reins over at QB from drafted (and poor, poor Bengal) Andy Dalton. Pachall has better physical gifts than Dalton, but Dalton had the experience and football sense. We shall see if Pachall can develop the great leadership and sense that Dalton had. Behind him is RS Freshman Matt Brown, who is more athletic than Pachall, but doesn't have as accurate of an arm and is still learning the college game.

    Halfbacks:
TCU is incredibly deep at halfback this season. Redshirt Junior Ed Wesley, the starter, is ready to lead this team. Wesley is on the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker. But his chances at earning the award are hampered by talented backups Matthew Tucker, the goal line and short yardage specialist, and Waymon James. Aundre Smith may also see playing time.

    Fullback:
Redshirt Senior Luke Shivers will be handling the Fullback position this season.

    Wide Receivers:

Talent is in abundance at wide receiver this season for TCU. Redshirt Sophomore Josh Boyce will start along with Senior Antoine Hicks. Skye Dawson will also see the field often in TCU's spread pistol attack. RS Freshman Logan Hodges sits at fourth on the depth chart, and will see the field in passing situations. Ethan Grant and Jonathan Jones will be reserves, and Freshman LaDarius Brown will redshirt.

    Tight End:
Experience is bountiful at tight end this season, with Redshirt Senior Logan Brock manning the starting spot. Redshirt Junior Corey Fuller will play in two tight end formations, while Redshirt Senior Robert Deck will block in the goal line.

    Tackle:
Redshirt Sophomore James Dunbar is ready to handle the starting spot at left tackle, while right tackle will be manned by Redshirt Senior Jeff Olsen. John Woolridge will be the reserve at right tackle, while Nykrien Wellington will backup Dunbar. Freshman Bobby Thompson will redshirt.

    Guard:
TCU has one of the top left guards in the country in Kyle Dooley. The Redshirt Senior is being mentioned in All-American talks. Backing him up will be Redshirt Junior Blaize Foltz. Right Guard will be manned by Redshirt Senior Spencer Thompson, and backed up by Redshirt Sophomore Ty Horn.

    Center:
James Fry, a Redshirt Junior, will be snapping the ball this season. Behind him are Redshirt Sophomore Eric Tausch and Redshirt Freshman Michael Thompson.

    Kicker:
Senior Ross Evans will handle the placekicking duties.

    Defense:

    Defensive End:
TCU will be young on the end this season. Sophomores Stansly Mapongo and Matt Anderson will be starting at left end and right end, respectively. They will be backed up by Senior Braylon Broughton, Junior Ross Forrest, and Sophomore Jon Koontz.

    Defensive Tackle:

TCU is also young at defensive tackle. Juniors DJ Yendrey and Jeremy Coleman will be the starters. Sophomore Ray Burns is the reserve.

    Outside Linebacker:
With TCU's switch to the tradition 4-3 this season from the 4-2-5, OLB is a much more important position. Due to this, former reserve ROLB Kenny Cain, a Junior, will be moving to starting LOLB, while star Senior ROLB Tank Carder will stay in his position. Carder is well known for his play in the Rose Bowl last season against Wisconsin, and has the star power and personality to back up his fame. Behind them will be Sophomores Blake Roberts and Marcus Mallett.

    Middle Linebacker:
True Junior Tanner Brock, who may be TCU's most talented defensive player, will be manning the MLB spot. Brockalready has draft hype around him, which coach Rogoff is not a fan of. Senior Kris Gardner and Junior Greg Burks will be filling the reserve roles and playing special teams.

    Cornerback:
TCU is inexperienced at corner, with only one Senior. Greg McCoy, the Senior, will be the team's number 1 corner, matching up against the top receiver game in and game out. Behind him are sophomores Jason Verrett and Travaras Battle. Junior Devin Johnson will be filling in the Dime spot. Travoskey Garrett will redshirt.

    Strong Safety:
Long a position of major importance and depth for this team is now just a normal position, due to not playing the 4-2-5.Senior Tekerrein Cuba will be the starter. Sophomores Sam Carter and Jonathan Anderson will see playing time as well, either as a sub or in late game blowouts.

    Free Safety:
One of the weaker positions talent wise on the team is Free Safety. Senior Johnny Fobbs has the starting job by default, but will be pushed by rising Sophomore Elisha Olabode. Sophomore Trenton Thomas is not expected to see much playing time.

    Punter:
Senior Anson Kelton will handle punting duties. Kelton is known as the giant 280 pound punter, so if he gets in on a tackle, he'll make it hurt.

TCU won their opening game against rival Baylor 44-29.

TCU's run game was redonkulous. Starter Ed Wesley had 250 yards and 3 TDs on 27 carries, while backup Matthew Tucker went off for 121 yards on 18 carries, with a touchdown. Casey Pachall finished the game 7 for 11 passing for 114 yards.

Although the defense was porous, a well timed pick late in the game, along with a strip ball and fumble recovery on the TCU 1 earlier in the 4th, sealed the game. The defense held Baylor under 500 yards on the day, with Baylor gaining 198 yards on the ground and 301 through the air. TCU managed 367 yards on the ground on 50 carries, to go with the 114 through the air.

Coach Rogoff has decided to scrap the Pistol offense and go to an old school I formation style.
