Team Previews 2013 Nebraska Cornhuskers The Blackshirts look to return Memorial Stadium to its former glory after a down year in 2012. After losing 7 starters combined on offense and defense the Huskers will look to dethrone the KSU wildcats from their lofty perch in the Big XII history books. It has been five years since the last Big XII title for Nebraska, but this year the talent is there to recapture the glory year. OFFENSE On offense a battle in spring practice has left the QB position wide open between heralded PS#1 Greg Booker, coming off his RS, and incumbant Jason Jones. "We don't know who will lead this team, but whoever it is will have the confidence of everyone in Lincoln." Coach Mutt said today. The strength of the team is D. Bryant, and J. Holmes who will lead a potent running attack for the Huskers. Bryant averaged 6.8 YPC, while Holmes averaged 7.4 YPC last year. They look to increase those numbers this year. At WR the Huskers will be very young with 3 true FR being involved in the passing game. Nate Allen will be leaned heavily as he is the only receiver with over 6 catches in his career coming into the year. DEFENSE On the DL true FR, who have both been clocked with sub 4.5 40's will on the ends, bookending two monster DT's in Lester, and Lewis. Lester and Lewis will finally get to play this year after sitting behind Mr. Nebraska Christian Rust for the past two years. Stephen Stevens will lead a group of talented LB's. He has started since his FR year, and will look to improve on his All-American year last year. He has average over 86 tackles a year playing the OLB position, and will look to nurture two first year starters in SR Pettway, and true FR Gates who beat out incumbant Tupea in spring ball this year. In the secondary the Huskers will be very young, and their season will be decided by how these youngsters play this year. The only returning player in the defensive backfield who had extensive playing time last year was preseason All-American TJ King at FS. We will be seeing a lot of White in Memorial Stadium this year as two Whites will be playing the SS and LCB for the Huskers.
