The Louisiana SuperDome was buzzing before, during, and well after the game Saturday night between Tennessee and Mississippi St. to crown the Southeastern Conference's best. It would prove to be worth the price of admission for all of the 80,000 plus in attendance.

Early on the Bulldogs offense was able to keep the opposing defense off balance with efficient runs and well-timed passes. This would eventually lead to a first quarter 7 yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott to Chad Bumphis. The Tennessee offense was often confused by the different looks they were getting and it created two first half interceptions from new school record holder Jonathan Banks.

The Volunteers were able to create a few big plays even with all their struggles early on. Tyler Bray connected with Da'Rick Rogers on a 30 yard touchdown early in the 2nd quarter to knot things up at 7 a piece. But with just two minutes left in the half, the bulldogs would capitalize off of one of Banks' interceptions, connecting on a 4 yard toss to Bumphis.

Out from the locker room, Tennessee seemed like a different team that was destined to take advantage of the aggressive defense the Bulldogs were playing. 23 seconds in Bray switched a play at the line, and it was the right call as he found a wide open Zach Rogers streaking down the middle of the field for a 46 yard score.

With the score now 14-14 going in to the fourth quarter, everything seemed up for grabs. Mississippi St. would fail to move the ball on their first possession and would hand things over to Bray and that highly efficient offense. They would march it down to the Bulldog 25 yard line where they would be forced to kick a FG.

Down by 3 with less the 5 minutes left, Prescott worked another fantastic drive- finding Bumphis and Arceto Clark on several crossing patterns to take them into Volunteer territory. Prescott would cap this drive off with a 35 yard strike to Clark to take a 4 point lead, forcing Tennessee to score a touchdown for the win.

The final drive for Tennessee was as good, or even better, than the one the Bulldogs had just pulled off. Using Marlin Lane on a couple of draws to keep the defense off balance and then finding Justin Hunter on a few big plays on the outside. With 1:51 left in the game Bray handed it off to fullback Brett Bartholomew who rumbled his way in from 3 yards out.

Most were thinking it may have left too much time on the clock for a offense that was now clicking for the Bulldogs. Tennessee laid back and forced Prescott to make a play to beat them and on a deep post attempt he was picked off by MLB Curt Maggitt to seal the championship and eventually would send them to the National Title game against BIG 12 opponent, Texas.
