The Bulldogs of Mississippi St. came roaring into Knoxville playing some of the toughest defense Tennessee had seen all year. Both teams were unable to establish any form of a run game and one of the nations best Marlin Lane was held to under 50 yards. The game was eventually decided on a long seam route by star WR Justin Hunter for a 57 yard touchdown where a bulldog defensive back misjudged the ball that led to a 17-12 Volunteer Victory.

Bulldogs best player Jonathan Banks did his best to keep the team in the game intercepting 2 Tyler Bray passes in the 1st and 3rd quarters. Tennessee was down one of their premier playmakers when Da'Rick Rogers went out with a minor ankle injury in the first. Both teams appear to be in the elite class of the SEC this season.

Tennessee and Alabama waged war for 60 minutes on Saturday and the Volunteers emerged through the dust in a 28-21 survival of the fittest. Both offenses worked very efficient registering 7 totals TD's but also had issues holding onto the ball with 5 turnovers.

The difference in this one was the Tennessee's willingness to establish a strong run game, and that they did. Marlin Lane had 91 yards on 16 attempts midway through the 3rd quarter when he went out with a rib injury. One of their deepest positions, they ran out another talented back Raijon Neal who tallied another 95 yards on 12 carries including a huge touchdown down late in the third.

Tennessee also capitalized on an injury to star Crimson Tide QB AJ McCarron who sat out the second quarter with an ankle injury which drastically slowed the Bama offense. Tennessee is emerging as a real national championship contender as we enter a important part of the schedules.
