The Volunteers come into the 2011 season with high hopes as they are lead by new head coach, Cimmy24. With many new players starting, the Vols have a lot to prove, but the new head coach believes this can be the year he stops his slide in the league.

    Week 2
    Western Kentucky @ Tennessee

Tennessee went into the locker rooms after their win over Western Kentucky knowing they need to turn things on if they want to compete with the big boys of the SEC. The running game for the Vols seems to be the only thing they have going for them as the season opens in Knoxville. Starting HB David Oku had 207 yards and 4 touchdowns on 34 carries throughout this one. QB Rozier did not throw an interception and went 8 for 16 for 231 yards and a TD for the Vols. He was lucky to not have a turnover as WKU's defense could not hold on to the numerous chances they had.

"The defense for the Hilltoppers played lightning quick, as well as their offense. They came to play today with an upset on their mind and they nearly came away with one if we didn't hold our composure. We have some things to work on, but I am confident this Tennessee team will go to a bowl after this season is through." -Coach Cimmy

    Week 3

    #24 Tennessee @ #3 Florida

This one came down to the wire. Both defenses played football today and each teams totaled yardage were only off by 10 yards, Tennessee 320 Florida 310. The Vols problem, they couldn't catch and hold on to the football. Staging a comeback, the Vols had numerous drops that would have put them in Florida territory to tie or take the lead. The hard hitting Gator D was too much.

Final Score: Florida 21 Tennessee 18

    Stats:
    -HB D. Oku: 21 Carries 125 YDs 1 TD
    -QB M. Rozier: 9 for 20 205 YDs 1 TD 2 INTs
    -WR A. Paige: 4 Receptions 94 YDs 1 TD

    #6 Georgia @ #23 Tennessee

After gaining 2 spots in the polls after losing to the Gators, UT was looking for a victory in the SEC over rival UGA. After jumping out to a 14-0 lead, Georgias defense decided it was time to make plays, and that is exactly what they did. 6 total turnovers, 5 interceptions, crippled the Vols chance in this one. After making a comeback, UT came up on the short end of a 37-29 loss.

    Stats:
    -QB M. Rozier: 14 for 29 253 YDs 2 TDs 5 INTs
    -HB D. Oku: 20 Atts 93 YDs 1 TD
    -WR J. Garrett: 4 Recs 109 YDs 1 TD
    -SS P. Waggner: 4 Tkls, 2 INTs

    #25 Tennessee @ Arkansas

The 1-2 Volunteers came into this one looking for their first SEC victory as Arkansas was looking for their 2nd. The Vols jumped out to a an early 10-0 lead going into the half. The lone touchdown came on a 48 yard breakaway run by HB David Oku. In the 3rd quarter, Arkansas would put the Volunteers on the edge of their seats, after a 39 yard field goal, Oku had the ball ripped from his hands and RE Ambrose took the ball 58 yards for the game tying TD. On the next drive Oku would avenge the fumble. After QB Rozier found WR Paige for a huge gain to the Arkansas 1 yard line, Oku would pound the rock for the go ahead touchdown, which would be the deciding score in this one. Tennessee comes away with a 17-10 victory in hostile territory, and moves their record to 2-2 (1-2). Next up for the Vols, a visit from ACC foe Virginia in Neyland Stadium.

    Stats:
    -HB D. Oku: 28 Carries 206 YDs 2 TDs
    -QB M. Rozier: 7 for 13 132 YDs 1 INT
    -WR A. Paige: 5 Recs 101 YDs
    -RE W. Bohannon: 11 TKLs 2 TFLs
    -CB D. Myles: 6 TKLs 1 INT

Oku, Vols Return to Form in Durham

After losing 3 straight games to SEC foes Alabama, South Carolina, and #1 LSU, Tennessee traveled to ACC Country to take on the Blue Devils. They would struggle early and everything seemed to be going towards another upset, and another bowless season for coach Cimmy. Oku would fumble the ball on UT's first offensive possesion and the Dukies would take over, capping a short drive with a TD. Tennessee would drive the field and Oku would redeem himself on a 4 yard toss for a score. Duke's All-American QB Renfree would prove himself again with an 8 yard strike with 1:14 remaining in the 1st half. Tennessee would get the ball back and with 1 minute left, QB Rozier would find WR Rogers on their first play for a 63 yard catch and run TD.

Tied after 2, Tennessee would receive the kickoff and David "Lightning" Oku would spark with an 87 yard kickoff return untouched. "It seemed like Duke only had 5 players on the field," would be his post game comment on the return. Duke would tie it up from 22 yards out, but it would be their last score. Last years starter, Tauren Poole would scamper in from 5 yards out to go up 28-21, and late in the 3rd, Oku would break a huge 78 yard TD run to put the game at a 35-21 advantage for the Vols. The 4th quarter would see no points, as the Vols go on to win on the feet of their star HB David Oku.
