    Texas A&M Aggies - wader49

Texas AM gets first win of the season after edging New Mexico

TAMU dominated on offense, mainly controlling the game on ground. RB Grey got the majority of the RB carries gaining 118 yards, and QB Johnson had 75 yards the ground and around 100 in the air. In total, 5 rushing TD's for the Aggies.

On defense, the youth of the aggies showed. They were burned twice on screen passes for touchdowns, both well over 50 yards each. They gave up a fair amount of yards in the air, mainly at the end of halfs.

New Mexico also returned a kickoff for a TD.

The good: 200 yards rushing for TAMU

The bad: kickoff return TD agaisnt.

The ugly: UNM RB Wright 2 long rec's on screens for 2 TD's

    week 2

Texas AM beats Utah State 41-20

Defence steps up to give a boost this week. They gave up some yardage but were able to get off the field in key spots and make plays when they had to.

Jerrod Johnson was a dual threat QB this week, throwing for 250 and 2 td's as well as running for 69 and a TD in the win. RB Gray had 132 yards and 2 TD's also. The recievers were led by Morrow who had 88 yards and a TD.

Defensive leaders were SS Pugh with 11 tackles, and McQueen who had 8 tackles and a FF.

Overall a good win for the Aggies to get ready for better opponents later in the schedule.

A&M dominates UAB from start to finish. 31-14 final

The offense got rolling right away, driving at will against the blazers defence. However, their first 2 drives were ended in the red zone, and both resulted in a FG. In Total the aggies had 3 FG's and 3 rushing TD's. RB Chris Gray led the way with 62 yards and a TD. backup RB Michael had 59 and a TD also. The third TD was accounted to by the FB on a goalline dive.

Although not throwing for a TD in this game. Jerrod Johnson was very effective moving hte ball in the air. He completed 20 of 28 passes for 243 yards and converted a lot of 3rd downs to keep drives going. He did throw a pick but that was a bogus play and not really his fault.

This was the best effort by the Aggies defence to date. They got pressure on the UAB QB and forced a lot of 3rd and longs. They forced 2 turnovers, both fumbles, which led to TD's. The Defensive leader was DE Michael Moss, who had 10 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 sacks, and 2 FF. He is proving to be a really good player opposite of stud DE Von Miller.

The aggies host arkansas in week 5

Aggies rally in instant classic against Rival Arkansas to win 17-16

Midway through the 3rd quarter, Arkansas was thoroughly dominating the game on offense and defense. A deep touchdown pass to Ryan Tannehill seemed to get both side of the ball fired up. AM then got a stop and then orchestrated a tough drive resulting in another Tannehill TD reception in tough coverage on a 25 yard corner route. After a drives stalling for both teams, Arkansas seemed to be driving the ball in hopes of putting the game away. A&M then managed to get a couple hits on Ryan Mallett and forced a punt. With just over 2 minutes left, the score was 16-14 for Arkansas but AM was prepared to march. After a couple nice passes, Chris Gray got the call on a couple running plays to get into field goal range. He then fumbled, recovered by Arkansas. The booth decided not to review the play, so coach wader challenged and wins the ball back. After a couple more runs, Ryan Bullock kicked a game winning 27 yard FG.

QB Jerrod Johnson was 17-29 for 253 yards with 2 TD and 1 int. This was the only turnover for the Aggies. Chris Gray was taken out of the game by the arkansas defense, limiting him to 50 yards on 19 carries, although he got a couple nice first downs late in the game. Ryan Tannehill finished with 6 catches for 121 yards and 2 td's. A breakout performance. On defense, they were able to get a couple good stops. Although they gave up a bunch of yards to a good offense, they held tough. Things to work on would be catching the ball lol. The defense had about 6 or 7 sure INT's that were simply drops.

On the recruiting front, the aggies got their first 2 commits.

    4 star Centre Kellen Gaines
decent ratings, should be a starter at some point in his stay at college station.

5 star Tackle Alan Jackson (not the country singer)
Decent speed and solid blocking ratings. A nice pickup.

Next week is the matchups they have been waiting for. Okie state and cowboys march into Kyle Field and try to break up the aggies perfect season.

ill post huronia's summary here too

Cowboys embarass Aggies at Home 48-14

The game started with Senior Linebacker Bobby Lavine picking off an floating pass by Qb Johnson. This was a turning point for the Aggies as it was all down hill from here.
Oklahoma State was able to turn the interception into three points and take the early lead.

The 2nd quarter saw the Cowboys completely take over the game, physically dominating the A & M front seven. Keith Toston added three rushing touchdowns in this quarter, rumbling and bumbling his way to pay dirt.

After Senior RB Beau Johnson returned the 2nd half opening kickoff down to the one yard line, Keith Toston punched in his 4th, and final major of the afternoon.

The Aggies responded with their first score of the afternoon, QB Johnson orchestrated a fine drive down the field and found converted QB, WR Ryan Tannehill on a fly pattern for a 38 yard touchdown.

Oklahoma responded with a 32 yard field goal by sophmore Dan Bailey. After another stop on defense the Cowboys punched another touchdown in behind Senior Tackle Russell Okung, this time is was Junior Kendall Hunter's time to join the party in the Aggies endzone.

At the conclusion of the 3rd Quarter the Cowboys lead 41-7, at this point starters were pulled and the reigns at QB were handed to 26 year old Sophmore Brandon Weeden, who played exceptionally well, going 5 for 5 with 50 yards.... At this point he has to be the early favourite to replace senior Zac Robinson next season.

The Aggies managed to score a touch down against Cowboy backups, and scoring for the day was complete after an Aggies turnover that saw Senior Beau Johnson rewarded for his efforts on special teams with another Aggies Rushing touchdown.

Player of the Game : SR LB Bobby Lavine (2 Ints, 1 sack, 1 tfl, 7 tackles).

    Aggies Secondary dominates K-State

The A&M defense was the story in this game, picking off kansas state quarterbacks 5 times, and returning 2 of those picks to the house. 4 of these were off starter Gregory which led to backup Harper getting some snaps. Even though the secondary did make the flashy plays, the front 7 was all over the field and flying to the ball. They held a very potent rushing offense to only 37 yards on 14 carries. Defensive leaders were Hunter who led the team with 7 tackles, and had a interception return TD. The other TD return was by McQueen. Terod Eddie chipped in with the aggies lone sack on the day.

The offense was playing very well also. Despite only having to throw the ball 13 times, QB Jerrod Johnson completed 11 of those for 148 yards and a TD. He bounced back with a mistake free game. With a healthy lead, the aggies were allowed to rush for 145 yards on 35 carries. They were lead by RB Cyrus Gray who had 61 yards and 2 big TD's. RB Christine Michael also contributed 42 yards. Johnson had 37 yards on 4 carries to extend a lot of drives. Their TE McCoy led the team in recieving with 39 yards and a TD.

    Next up is Tech.

Aggies find a way to hold off Cyclones 24-21

In a game that the aggies totally dominated in time of possession, the visiting iowa state cyclones just wouldnt go away. They came back twice with quick scoring drives, mainly through the air, and a lot of key 3rd down conversions. The aggies, defense bent but didnt break, holding iowa state to 2 field goal attempts which were both missed. They also had an interception that led to a TD.
On offense, the running game was plowing over iowa state. Cyrus Gray and Christine Michael were forming a dynamic backfield duo, until Gray got hurt and will be missed for 4 weeks. After the first quarter, the defense realized that Texas AM had no reason to throw the ball on early downs, and began to limit runs to 3 and 4 yards, with the ocassional medium run. In total the aggies rushed for over 200 yards on 48 carries. They only threw the pass 13 times, and scored 2 TD's in the air.

    Key Stat Lines
    QB Jerrod Johnson - 8-13, 132 yards, 2 TD's, 1 INT, 14 rush yards
RB Cyrus Gray - 69 yards rushing, 1 TD, 31 yards rec, 1 TD
RB Christine Michael - 113 yards rushing,
    Defense - 2 sacks, 1 INT

    Aggies are bowl eligible

Aggies improve to 7-2 with an impressive 35-28 road win over #23 Colorado

A back and forth grind it out offensive game ended up with the aggies pulling it out to help their bowl position. With both teams using the running game effectively and using up the clock, Texas A&M got a late turnover on defense that propelled them to a win. The scoring opened up with A&M's Christine Michael fumbling, and A&M's Matthews (offensive guard lol) picking the ball and rumbling 41 yards up the middle for a touchdown. Colorado answered with a nice drive, finished by a 19 yard run by Darrell Scott on a toss. Aggies wasted little time, marching the field leading to a 9 yard Kyle Brown receiving TD. Both teams scored additional TD's before the half, giving A&M a 7 point halftime lead. After going 3 and out to start the half, A&M punted the ball to colorado, who had a timely 3 minute drive the ended with a 6 yard Scott run. Texas answered with their own 3 minute drive right after. RB Michael punched it in for 6 yards. Colorado's WR McKnight caught a big pass a minute later to tie the game. With the game tied. Texas AM decided to just pound the rock right at the colorado defense who was getting weak. 4 minuted later, Michael punched in his 2nd TD of the game. Colorado turned the ball over a couple plays later, allowing AM to escape with a W.

    Key stats:
QB Jerrod Johnson, 10-11, 185 yards, 1 TD, 35 yard rushing
RB Christine Michael, 26 car, 112 yards, 2 TD
WR James Fuller, 4 rec, 78 yards
FS Trent Hunter, 9 tackles, 1 INT

    Next game is AT Oklahoma
