    Texas A&M vs New Mexico

    Aggies struggle to beat Lobos

The Texas A&M Aggies started their season today with a 29-17 victory over the New Mexico Lobos. The running game was the key for the Aggies as they rolled up over 200 yards as a group. The passing game for A&M was much less effective as they finished with 160 yards in the air. The star of the game was Aggies running back Cyrus Gray. Gray ran for 138 yards on 26 carries with his longest run being a 23 yarder early in the first half. The big play of the afternoon came late in the game with the Aggies winning 23-17. On third and 1 Aggies quarterback Jerrod Johnson took a naked bootleg for 51 yards down to the three yard line. The defense stepped up when it needed to but did nothing to stand out. Overall opening day was a less then average performance for Texas A&M.

Defense helps Aggies steal vicotry in triple overtime

College Station, TX- The Texas A&M Aggies stole a 48-45 triple overtime victory from the Michigan State Spartans Saturday in College Station,Texas. Redshirt sophomore corner back Justin McQueen intercepted a Kirk Cousins pass early in the first possession on the third overtime. The Aggies then ran sophomore kicker Randy Bullock onto the field and he kicked the game winning field goal.

"Cousins tried to throw a fade route and I just sat on it and picked it off," McQueen said.

"The game of football is crazy, in a 48-45 game a defensive play is what won the game," said Aggies head coach Mike Sherman.

The offensive attack was lead by sophomore running back Cyrus Gray. He rushed for 188 yards on 33 carries and 3 touchdowns.

"The big hogs upfront were great today, they really controlled the line for us," said Gray.

The Aggies Junior quarterback Jerrod Johnson finished the afternoon 12 of 24 for 214 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson also added 98 yards on the ground on 13 carries.

"The passing game still has a long way to go before we catch up to our dominating running game," Johnson said.

The leading receiver for the Aggies was the Senior tight end Jaime McCoy. He finished with 5 catches for 78 yards and a score.

Senior defensive end Matt Moss terrorized Spartan quarterbacks all game ending the game with 4 tackles, 3 for loss and three sacks.

Overall the Aggies were pleased with the way they played. "We faced some pressure situations and for the most part reacted well. Our goal every week is to improve on the last game and I think we did that."

Next week A&M takes on UAB in a prep for their rivalry games against Arkansas.

Workhouse Gray leads the way for Aggies

College Station, TX- The Texas A&M Aggies ran their record to 3-0 on the season with a 38-17 win over UAB on Saturday. The game was closer then the score indicated as UAB lead at the half 17-16. "UAB played us tough today, they fought hard and really showed a ton of heart," said Aggies head coach Mike Sherman.

The offensive stars of the game were Sophomore running back Cyrus Gray. Gray carried the ball 30 times for 153 yards and three scores. "Every week it seems like I stand here and say the same thing, great job o-line" Gray said.

The longest run of the day came on a 46 yard scamper late in the 1st half.
"Cyrus took the pitch and we got the edge sealed and he was gone," Sherman said.

Freshman wide receiver Ryan Swope lead the Aggies in receiving with 83 yards on 4 catches.

"Everytime I needed to make a play it seemed like Ryan was open," Aggies quarterback Jerrod Johnson.

Next week the Aggies look to take their record to 4-0 as they host the Arkansas Razorbacks in what should be an entertaining match up.

Mistakes doom Aggies against rival 'Hogs
College Station,TX- 17 first quarter points turned out to be enough for the Arkansas Razorbacks Saturday afternoon as they knock off the previously unbeaten Texas A&M Aggies 17-16.

With only seconds remaing on the clock the Aggies were in position to kick a field goal that would have securred them the victory but Sophomore kicker Randy Bullock pulled the kick wide left as time expired. "Randy makes that kick 99 out of 100 times," Aggies head coach Mike Sherman said.

"I have great confidence in my kicker and he will send the next big kick right down the center,"

Turnovers and stalled drived added to the frustration of the Aggies. On the last play of the first quarter Sophomore Free Safety Elton Ford intercepted an errent Jerrod Johnson pass and took it in for the final Razorback back touchdown.

The Aggies added three field goals in the second half but fell just short.

"If we finish those second half drives it isnt even a close game," Sherman said.

The 3-1 Aggies hope to return to the winning side of the coin next week against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a Big 12 show down.

Aggies hold off late charge to upset Oklahoma St

College Station,TX- It took a shoe string tackle on 4th and 17 for the Texas A&M Aggies to knock off the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Big 12 college football action on Saturday.

With under a minute to go the Cowboys faced a 4th and 17. Zac Robinson took a high snap from center and dropped back. Oklahoma States star wide receiver had gained inside position on senior corner back Jordan Peterson. Robinson let it rip. Bryant caught the ball and had nothing but daylight infront of him. Senior strong safety Jordan Pugh came up with a Rothlisberger like tackle to bring Bryant to the ground inches short of the line to gain. The tackle gave the Aggies the ball and the victory.

"I just tried to bring him(Bryant) to the ground and prevent him from scoring,I really wasn't thinking about stopping him from getting the first down," Pugh said in a post game interview.

"Our corner got beat but Jordan was there to bail him out, it was an amazing play," said Aggies head coach Mike Sherman.

Running back Cyrus Gray carried the ball 21 times for 92 yards and two scores. Freshman Christine Michael added 45 yards on 9 carries for the Aggies.

"The running game wasn't great today but when we needed it to be at its best,it was." Sherman said.

Sophomore wide receiver Jeff Fuller caught a game high 7 passes for 83 yards in the win.

Next week the Aggies will head off to Manhattan Kansas to take on the undefeated Kansas State Wildcats.
