    Texas Longhorns 2010 Season

    Texas Longhorns Off-Season Update

The Texas Longhorns are geared and ready for next season. The Coaches and recruiting assitants have blazed the trail and brought in the currently #1 ranked class in the nation, filled with talent across the board.

Highlighting the class 5* #1 ranked MLB Maurice Bailey. Bailey has the speed and athleticism to move sideline to sideline and make big time plays for us. With the loss of starting MLB Jared Norton, a void needs to be filled for the 2nd MLB position in the 3-4 defensive scheme. The Coaches feel Bailey can come in and take on that role. Bailey will be a nice addition to a defense that loss alot of talent on all 3 levels. The Longhorns do return 1st Team All-Big 12DE Eddie Jones and 2nd Teamers CB Chykie Brown and Blake Gideon.
Texas will also be bringing in 4* commits DT Trevor Burnette, MLB JJ Pickens, OLBs Justin Cooper and Michael Roland. We will need to wait until spring ball to evaluate these players and see if any will earn some plays this fall.

On offensive side of the ball is where the Longhorns bring in most of the talent. With loss of 1st Team All-American WR Jordan Shipley and 2nd Team All-American QB Colt McCoy, the Longhorns definitely needed to reload. They did this by bringing in 5* #2 WR Lewis Crosby who is looking to be a huge impact to the Texas offense. The WR corps was already deep with talent even after the loss of Shipley, the addition of Crosby will definitely make the unit better. It remains to be see if Crosby will see time his first year, but he will be a factor for years to come. To an already deep, talented backfield, Texas was able to bring in 5* #2 HB Robert Johnson. Johnson will undoubtly redshirt his first year as the Longhorns feature 3 Junior running backs whom have starting potential. The offensive line got some added depth by bringing in commits 5* G Jermaine Harris, 5* T Santonio Daniel and 4* C Cole Broussard. The offensive cordinator was able to wrangle 4* QB Shannon Murphy away from Nebraska bringing in a backup for Sr QB Sherrod Harris. It has not been determined where 4* Athlete Terrance Phillips will play, the coaches will have to take a look at him after spring ball rolls around.

It is sure to be an exciting season for the Longhorns as they try to go through the tough South and North divisions of the Big 12 conference.

    Spring Football Update

The Longhorns recently completed their orange and white game earlier this week. The coaches have been at it putting together the depth chart and players who are going to redshirt their first year on the team. The coaches fill pretty confident about their team because they have so much depth all over the field, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Only one true freshman will be getting the nod to start this season. MLB Maurice Bailey will be a first year starter on defense and will be looked upon to make some plays.

    2010 Season Edition

    Season Preview

The Texas Longhorns come into the 2010 season excited and ready to get on the field. They finished up last season strong with a win over LSU in the Cotton Bowl, but fell short in the Big XII title game. We have reloaded on talent and last years starters have gained a ton of experience. The road will definitely be tough again but I think our guys are up to the challenge.

    Offense Outlook
Senior QB Sherrod Harris runs the helm this year on offense. He played several snaps last year due to blowout wins, so he does have game experience under his belt. The backfield is deep so we will feature a running back by committee system. First-Team Big XII running back Vondrell McGee will get the majority of the carries, followed by big bruiser Cody Johnson.

At the WR position we feature speed and size. 6'-3" Jr Malcolm Williams will be the #1, followed by Brandon Collins and James Kirkendoll. All catch the ball really well and know what to do with it afterwards. At TE we feature Blaine Irby who is a terror to deal with in the secondary if left alone. We will be looking for a big year from him once more. The O-line is stout and will be expected to keep the QB clean and pave holes for our running backs.

    Defense Outlook
Senior DE Eddie Jones returns to lead the defense this year, after a stellar season last year. He will be looked on to make plays and harrass opposing QB's all game. He will not be alone as first time starter Sam Acho will play the opposite end and he to can make plays.

The LB corps is as strong as they come with Junior OLB Keenan Robinson leading the group. He came up big last year especially in the Red-River Shootout game. We will need his same type of play this year. He is followed by returning starting MLB Dustin Earnest and first year starters Emanual Acho and true Freshman Maurice Bailey.

At the CB position we feature depth and playmakers. Returning start Aaron Williams leads the group, followed by Chykie Brown. These two will definitely make plays and make it tough for opposing receivers to get going. Their backups are also capable of coming in and/or defending team's 3rd and 4th receivers.

Heading up the Safety positions are leader Earl Thomas and All-American Blake Giddeon. These two players both made plays last season and will be looked upon to do the same this year. Team's will definitely need to account for FS Earl Thomas as he has the skills to be all over the field.

    Rice 0

Stats for this one are really irrevelant as Rice was doomed from the opening kickoff. This is a scoring summary of just the first quarter!

Texas: 92-yard kickoff return (opening kick)
Texas: 36-yd int TD (Rice's first play)
Texas: 30-yd fumble return TD (on kickoff)
Texas: 94-yd TD pass (First Texas offensive play of game)
    Texas: 80-yd TD run
    Texas: Another long TD

The entire 2nd half my starters didn't see the field and all I ran was HB Dives with kill the clock to finish out the game.

I know we went up against an inferior team today but our guys looked good out there. We were fying all around the field and our boys showed speed everywhere. Only time will tell if we our legit but I think we will definitely be a force.

Texas wins another in dominant fashion as they shut out UCLA . Obviously the defense played great, they were able to get to the QB and rush some throws as well as stop the run.

The offense played stellar in moving the ball on the ground and in the air. QB Sherrod Harris accumulated 370 total yards with 269 passing and 101 rushing with 4 total TDs (2 pass, 2 rush). Vondrell McGee also chipped in 120 yards and a score.

Next up we face #18 ranked Indiana.

Texas gets past Cyclones despite unusual first half play.

The Texas offense couldn't block, catch or have a decently thrown pass by Heisman Hopeful Sherrod Harris. Iowa State's right defensive end was in the backfield all game disrupting things. The biggest problem was our QB's accuracy today, his passes were not on point and he missed receivers by 7-8 yards every miss. Our ground game was excellent as we rushed for over 200 yards. Qb Sherrod Harris stepped up big for us despite his passing woes, accounty for 400+ total yards and 4 tds

The defense played well despite giving up 17 points. They did dropped alot of gimme interceptions, 1 of which led to a score the very next play. Other than that they defended the run well and was able to get to the quarterback a few times.

There are some things we will definitely tighten up before our huge game next week. Our last two efforts have been sub par to what we expect and looked to play better through the rest of the season.

Next up The Red River Shootout @ Oklahoma

Should be another good one. Last season the Longhorns were able to get past the Sooners in OT.

Longhorns Force Shutout, Win Red River Rivalry

The Longhorns knew they had a huge test this game in facing QB Sam Bradford and the talented offense of the Sooners. We came in expecting a shootout between the two.

It was both defenses that came to play in this one. Through the first quarter both teams were scoreless and the offenses could not get down field. The first points wouldn't come until 2:46 in the 2nd when CB Aaron Williams would get his first of 2 interceptions on the day. He would take that back for 92 yards for a touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff the Sooner returner would fumble the ball, it appeared he was down but the refs did not challenge the call. Two plays later the Sherrod Harris would find Cody Johnson 15 yards down field for the score 14-0. Heisman hopeful V. McGee was put out of the game with an injury for 4 weeks.

The Longhorns would get another pick 6, this time going back for 59 yards to make it 21-0. The Texas D would go on to keep the Sooners at bay and control the clock for the win.

    Next up Baylor

Texas gets past Baylor despite QB Sherrod Harris going down on the 3rd play of the game with an injury. RS Freshman Gilbert would step in and take care of business throwing 3 tds to Malcom Williams.

The defense was huge stepping up and getting two pick 6's on the day. Although Griffen and his receivers were robo-ing us today, it seemed like our defense wasn't even out there. We couldn't put pressure on him, the receivers were running circles around our DB's all game. It was frustrating and ridiculous, but we will take the W and get ready for Nebraska next week.

Jr. CB Aaron Williams had 2 ints, 1 going back for 6 for the 2nd game in a row. He now has 7 total on the season.

Malcolm Williams had 9 receptions for 134 yards and 3 tds.

We picked up a huge recruit in 5* #1 QB Johnny Sanders this week as well as 4* #7 ATH Jon Thompson. Sanders should be able to come in and battle for the QB position next spring against RS Freshman Shannon Murphy and standout soon to be Sophmore Garrett Gilbert.

Texas looks again to have a stellar recruiting class this year, after having one the best last year.

After the thumping Texas took by Nebraska last week, the Longhorns would come out and drubbed the Red Raiders, nearly shutting them out if not for a late TD pass in the 4th.

Heisman candidate Sherrod Harris got the offense back on track account for 350+ yards and all 6 Texas scores. The Longhorns were still without All-American Vondrell McGee for the 4 week in a row, but he should return next week for the match up with Oklahoma State.

The defense played solid all game forcing 3 turnovers on the day and harrassing QB Tyler Potts. With a new scheme the Longhorns were able to get pressure on the QB and force some throws and rattle him in the pocket.

Next up a tough test at home against Okie State. Should be a good one.

    Texas Gets Past Cowboys
    20-10

The Longhorns knew hosting the #2 Cowboys would be a tough test. These two played in a thriller last year with Texas being able to edge it out on a game-winning field goal. Dez ate us up in that game last year as we didn't have an answer for him.

This game was a defensive battle throughout, 2 of the 3 combined TDs came from long "punch you in the mouth" drives. The other came off a big play by WR Kirkendoll on a 58-yd TD reception.

Heisman candidate Sherrod Harris finished the day 15-21, 252 yds and 2 passing tds.

Next up we travel to Kansas State

The Longhorns have dropped in rankings in the last week to the #3 spot in the BCS rankings. They also went from 2nd to 3rd in the Big XII standings for some reason.

We look to finish up the regular season strong against Texas A&M and see where how everything pans out for us in the end

Yeah I know. Well Utah was undefeated so I see why they moved up, but if that was the case they should have been in front of me before the Oklahoma State game. Then after the OSU game I dropped in the Big XII standings.
