    Texas Longhorns: Texas Special

This will be an in-depth look at the Texas Longhorns on a week by week, year by year basis. We will preview and review each game and let you know the news surrounding the team. Award hopefuls, recruiting news, and what you can expect from the Longhorns.

This year on offense we are led by the Heisman hopful Sr QB Colt McCoy and standout Jr HB Vondrell McGee. We also have Sr All-American wideout Jordan Shipley on the outside. Our running back core is very solid and should be able to produce as a bunch and not just one guy running the ball.

On a very talented defense led by Sr DE Sergio Kindle, we have Soph FS Earl Thomas and Sr OLB Rodderick Muckelroy. The features a rack of playmakers at the other positions and one thing we do have is depth at all positions.

We face a solid schedule and tough opponents this year, so it should be interesting to see how the team does.

    See you in week 1

    Week 1: ULM

In our first game we host a young ULM team, who are led by QB Trey Revell and RB Frank Goodin.
On defense they feature some suprising speed at key positions, especially in the secondary. We will need to pick our spots throwing, but should be able to pound the football with our big o-line.

We will see what the team is made of this week, being the first game you always have those pre-game butterflies. So we may come out overhyped but key is to settle down and take care of business

    Players to Watch:
    Texas:
    Colt McCoy
    Jordan Shipley
    Sergio Kindle

    ULM:
    Trey Revell
    Frank Goodin

    Week 1: ULM Post-Game
    Texas 52
    ULM 17

Texas destroys ULM with the ground game in the home opener. The Warhawks were no match as the Longhorns used their dominate ground attack to wear down their opponent

Texas would be up 38-3 at the half, so they sat the 1st team offense and defense in the 2nd half. The subs came in and performed well also continuing the ground game and burning the clock. Colt did not see the field much because of an injury and limited playing time. He was able to get two td passes to Jordan Shipley and throw the ball with high accuracy. The o-line suprisingly had a difficult time in blocking the Warhawk pass rush. The times Colt did throw he had to get rid of it quickly because the pass rush would get in instantly.

The defense played lights out, even though they gave up two scores. Nothing came to easy for the Warhawks and they were able to move the ball at times.

    Players of the Game
    V. McGee: 10 atts, 209 yds, 2 tds
    S. Kindle: 11 tackles, 2 Tfl, 1 sack

Next up we face #14 UNC

    Week 2: UNC

After hosting ULM and taking care of them, we have our first test of the season in a home game against #14 ranked North Carolina. Our offense was on fire last week, but that was against an undermatched team. The Tar heels should be a tougher opponent on offense and defense.

We know what gameplan we want to take into the game, same as the previous. Attack on the ground and air, take what we can when they give us the opportunity.

    Players to Watch
    Colt McCoy (Texas)
    Vondrell McGee (Texas)
    TJ Yates (UNC)

    Week 2: UNC Post-game
    Texas 43
    UNC 16

Offense continuted it's groove today, working the ground and air game. QB Colt McCoy was on fire tonight hitting his receivers and torching the Tar heel secondary. Due to the weather we thought we may have had to use the ground game a little more, but rain or shine it didn't matter the way Colt was throwing.

The run game was just as explosive as we kept the UNC D off balance and worked the ball down field a number of ways.
The D played solid again, though we did give up alot of yards looking over the team stats. We were able to force some TO's and limit the Tar heels to FG's and their lone TD.

    Player of the Game
    C. McCoy: 15-19, 333 yds, 4 TDs

Next up we host the Texas Tech Red Raiders in what is sure to be a long game

    Week 3: Texas Tech

We know Texas Tech likes to come out throwing the ball all over the field., so we will need to keep their offense on the sidelines. This is also a rivalry game so we know they will come out amped up and ready.

On offense we just need to keep doing what we have thus far in the season. Using a balanced attack and keeping the opposing D honest. Colt will lead the offense as he sees fit, and will have the unit ready to go.

On D our pass coverage formations will be busy, as we expect Tech to line it up 4-5 wide almost every play. We need to bring pressure to force Potts out of his comfort zone, hopefully get some mistakes from him.

    Players to Watch
    Colt McCoy (Texas)
    Vondrell McGee (Texas)
    Taylor Potts (TTU)
    Eric Britton (TTU)

    Week 3: Texas Tech Post-Game
    Texas 31
    Texas Tech 24

In a game that should have and even looked like a blowout, only came down to a touchdown. The Texas offense came out on fire and move the ball well. Defense played well and didn't give up much until the 2nd half, when 2 quick Tech TD's brought the game close.

The Texas D finally stepped up and close the door on the Red Raiders, winning the game.

    Players of the Game
Colt McCoy 19-27, 259 yds, 2 tds, 1 rushing td

    Colorado 14

Team came out hot this game, but Colorado slowed us down with their great pass rush and defense suddenly. Our receivers dropped a number of passes and Colt had some very uncharacteristic throws in the game. Wasn't his best effort, but he got the job done and we won the ballgame.

Texas Wins In OT 30-27 In Red River Shootout

Texas was able to get the victory in what was a great game with Oklahoma. Both teams did disappoint and came out ready to play from the coin toss.

Oklahoma would elect to kick first after winning the toss. Colt went to work matriculating the ball downfield eventually hitting Brandon Collins on a 13-yd TD pass. The Sooners said anything you do I can do better, and would put together a drive of their own. Heisman sensation Demarco Murray would pick his way through the hole and score on a 34-yd TD run to tie things up.
Texas would again take the ball downfield, but this time settle for a field goal to make it 10-7.
Both defenses stepped up in the 2nd quarter making it difficult for either team to score until the last 3 seconds of the half. Sooners was able to hit a streaking Ryan Broyles for a 53-yd TD, taking the lead into the half 14-10.

The 3rd quarter would be much like the 1st, both offenses came alive again. Texas would force a turnover, then cap off a drive with a 6-yd TD run by Vondrel McGee. Not to be outdone the Sooners would take the ball downfield and Murray would get another scamper into the endzone 21-17 OU.
In the 4th both defenses would again clamp down, especially Oklahoma. Texas would get into the redzone but throw a costly pick at the 3-yd line. Oklahoma would drive down the field effectively getting in scoring range. Bradford ducks a near sack and attempts to hit his receiver in the corner of the endzone, but Keenan Robinson read it and picked it off taking it back 98-yds for the TD and the lead 24-21. Oklahoma would have a chance to win the game or atleast tie. Bradford lead his offense down field just shy of the redzone but had to settle for a field goal to tie things up. Texas would run the clock out for OT.

Texas won the OT coin toss and chose to put the Oklahoma offense on the field again. The Longhorn D held strong and forced a Sooner field goal. Colt came out wanting to get the ball in the endzone and thats just what he did on the 2nd play. Colt sense the blitzed from the left coming, so he slide to the right and spotted Jordan Shipley heading into the corner of the endzone with a step. He got rid of the ball barely and found Shipley for the game winner. Texas Wins!

    Players of the Game
Jordan Shipley (Texas): 6 recs, 140 yds, 1 td (game winner in OT)
Demarco Murray (Oklahoma): 28 carries, 149 yds, 2 tds

In the 2nd of 3 tough row of opponents on the road, Texas falls to Missouri by 3. Game went back and fourth with both teams scoring and making stops when needed. The Missouri offense moved the ball well and capitalized when they needed on key plays. The Tiger defense played well also, getting sacks on late possessions. Texas would try to do the same but crucial drops on 3rd downs doomed them through out the game. Lets hope the game down in Stillwater will have nice beautiful weather, this was the 2nd game in a row that rain was in the forecast.

We knew this game would be tough, because we were facing a tough coach and team on the road. It was a good loss for us to hopefully get us hungry and finish this road trip out strong.

*Recap will be finished later with stats*

Texas was able to steal Murphy from Nebraska last weekend, he was a soft-commit prior to the UT vs OSU game but the barn burner must we had must have convince him Texas is the place to be. The signing of Murphy and Roland wrapped up a stellar class for the Longhorns and hopefully some of these freshman can come in immediately and make an impact.

    * Recruting for the season is complete. All Sim recruiting settings have been turned off*

After schlackings against Baylor and Kansas, the Longhorns prep for their final regular season game @ Texas A&M. Texas has been playing well since their lone loss to Mizzou earlier in the year, but that may not be enough to even get into the Big XII title game.

We look to finish out the year strong and will go into the "12th man" prepared to take care of business.

The Longhorns put a Texas-sized spanking on the Aggies to finish out the reguler season strong. Colt and the offense put this one away by halftime so the starters could rest for the entire 2nd half.

The Aggie DB's were in for a rough night as they couldn't cover any of the Longhorn receivers, nor bring them down after the catch. Heisman candidates Colt McCoy went off for 375+ yards and 6 TDs and Jordan Shipley caught 4 receptions for 124 yds and a score.

The defense played lights out, harassing the A&M quarterbacks all game with pressure and hard hits. They only gave up one score on a blown coverage, the other TD came from a tipped pick 6 in the 1st half.

Texas now waits for the outcome of the Okie State vs Oklahoma game. Some are indicating that this game will determine who goes to the Big XII title game to play Nebraska. We've handled most of our business thus far into the season but now our fate lies with the numbers.

Puttin' up 52 might help your cause lol!
Maybe you will make it. Think about it this way. Whoever loses this game is out of Big 12 Title, Natty title and major BCS bowl. Whoever wins, might get into the Big 12 and Natty title. Crazy race. Hopefully you have a shot since you beat us both right? Who did you lose to?

    Texas Longhorns Off-Season Update

The Texas Longhorns are geared and ready for next season. The Coaches and recruiting assitants have blazed the trail and brought in the currently #1 ranked class in the nation, filled with talent across the board.

Highlighting the class 5* #1 ranked MLB Maurice Bailey. Bailey has the speed and athleticism to move sideline to sideline and make big time plays for us. With the loss of starting MLB Jared Norton, a void needs to be filled for the 2nd MLB position in the 3-4 defensive scheme. The Coaches feel Bailey can come in and take on that role. Bailey will be a nice addition to a defense that loss alot of talent on all 3 levels. The Longhorns do return 1st Team All-Big 12DE Eddie Jones and 2nd Teamers CB Chykie Brown and Blake Gideon.
Texas will also be bringing in 4* commits DT Trevor Burnette, MLB JJ Pickens, OLBs Justin Cooper and Michael Roland. We will need to wait until spring ball to evaluate these players and see if any will earn some plays this fall.

On offensive side of the ball is where the Longhorns bring in most of the talent. With loss of 1st Team All-American WR Jordan Shipley and 2nd Team All-American QB Colt McCoy, the Longhorns definitely needed to reload. They did this by bringing in 5* #2 WR Lewis Crosby who is looking to be a huge impact to the Texas offense. The WR corps was already deep with talent even after the loss of Shipley, the addition of Crosby will definitely make the unit better. It remains to be see if Crosby will see time his first year, but he will be a factor for years to come. To an already deep, talented backfield, Texas was able to bring in 5* #2 HB Robert Johnson. Johnson will undoubtly redshirt his first year as the Longhorns feature 3 Junior running backs whom have starting potential. The offensive line got some added depth by bringing in commits 5* G Jermaine Harris, 5* T Santonio Daniel and 4* C Cole Broussard. The offensive cordinator was able to wrangle 4* QB Shannon Murphy away from Nebraska bringing in a backup for Sr QB Sherrod Harris. It has not been determined where 4* Athlete Terrance Phillips will play, the coaches will have to take a look at him after spring ball rolls around.

It is sure to be an exciting season for the Longhorns as they try to go through the tough South and North divisions of the Big 12 conference.

    Spring Football Update

The Longhorns recently completed their orange and white game earlier this week. The coaches have been at it putting together the depth chart and players who are going to redshirt their first year on the team. The coaches fill pretty confident about their team because they have so much depth all over the field, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Only one true freshman will be getting the nod to start this season. MLB Maurice Bailey will be a first year starter on defense and will be looked upon to make some plays.
