    TFC Fight Night 2 - Recap/Summary

    TFC FIGHT NIGHT 2

    Venue: Red Rock Casino
    Referee: Herb Dean
    Deadline: Tuesday 6/2/09 (prefer Monday)

    Main Event
    Middleweight #1 Contender Match
Thales Leites (2-1-0, 2 ko / Bahnzo) vs Rich Franklin (1-0-0, 1 ko / Shaun)
Leites wins via TKO at 3:41 of Round 2.
Round 1 was a mix of stand up and ground game. Leites jabbed and punched with Ace, and then fight went down to the ground where Thales had minor success against Franklin.
Round 2 saw Ace fight back, giving Thales a nasty cut under his eye. But Thales took the fight to the ground again, and was able to keep Franklin in the mount and the ref was forced to call a stop to the fight due to strikes.
BRING ON THE REMATCH WITH DAN HENDERSON!!
Thales was caught by a lucky one punch KO in their earlier fight, and he has vowed not to let that happen again.

    Headline
    Heavyweight Match
Cheick Kongo (2-1-0, 2 ko / HotRod) vs. Frank Mir (1-1-0, 1 ko / Ryno)
Mir comes out the gate looking to land his hooks, Kongo come out using his reach advantage to avoid getting hurt. As the fighters close the gap to each other Kongo gain the advantage attacking Mir's body and works him in the clinch a little. Mir reverses then they back off each other. Kongo then catches one of Mir's punches and slams him to the mat. Mir slowly works his way out of half guard and by the end of the round had escaped without taking too much damage.
In round 2, Mir is throwing punches but Kongo keeps his distance attacking the legs. Mir closes the gap and lands a few hooks and kicks. Mir goes for the takedown, but Kongo is ready and both men are in the sprawl. Kongo gains control and slams Mir into side control. He then makes the quick transition into full mount and one hammerfist later Mir is seeing stars. Fight over!
After the fight Kongo points to Arlovski and shouts "I'm coming for you!!!!! Be ready!"
Winner by GnP KO at 1:50 of Round 2 - Cheick Kongo

    Remaining Card
Diego Sanchez (2-0-0, 2 ko / Shaun) vs. Thiago Alves (2-1-0, 2 ko / Blaza)
Sanchez came out and touched gloves with Alves. The Pitbull, fresh off his tournament final loss to GSP was looking to let it all hang out against the Nightmare. First round saw both fighters land some tough shots on the feet. The round was close and could've gone either way. Alves may have held the edge for landing a few more shots on the ground.Round Two saw Alves turn up the heat and really go after Sanchez. Though he landed some heavy blows, Sanchez got in some great counters of his own. Sanchez eventually took Alves down and immediately did the wrestler standup and drop bombs animation. Alves was able to slip back to guard and slipped in a slick triangle at 2:03 of Round 2
Winner by Triangle Choke 2:03 Round 2--Thiago Alves.

BJ Penn (1-0-0, 1 ko / Steel) vs. Roger Huerta (1-0-0, 1 ko / Marcman)
Rd. 1 - Fighters both trading blows with Huerta got the best of Penn this round. It was very evident with Penn's Left eye swollen shut and bleeding.
Rd. 2 - Huerta comes out with a fury (as most Public Enemy Fighters do) and didn't give Penn a chance. Penn lasted longer than most would with the beating he was taking but was eventually KO'd 2:55 into the 2nd round.
    Good fight dude.
Winner by way of Knock Out -- Roger "The Matador" Huerta

Demian Maia (0-0-0 / Pryor) vs. Robbie Lawler (0-0-0 / NYJuggs)
1st rd - Pretty much a stalemate. Maia had a few submission attempts but it was too early. Lawler got the mount but with less than 30 sec left so couldn't do anything with it. If the game has it, a 10-10 round
2nd rd - Maia comes out swinging, and is actually winning the standup with the slugger Lawler. With about 2 mins to go, Maia connects on a hook that rocks Robbie (gray screen) but he shot in and even though it was stuffed, it was enough time to recover. Tired of getting his face mashed in, Lawler took Maia down and immediately worked to mount. 4-5 hooks/hammerfists later, it's over. Herb Dean jumps in with only 6 secs left in the round to stop it.
Winner by TKO - Robbie Lawler, 4:54 in the 2nd rd

Matt Hughes (0-1-0 / Sweetness) vs. Matt Serra (0-1-0 / JMS)
Started off 1st round with Matt Hughes throwing Serra on the ground and slipping straight into full mount. No matter how hard Serra tried, he couldn't get out of Hughes deadly mount and gets KO'ed with 4"13 left in the 1st.
    Winner by KO MATT HUGHES
Matt Hughes said after the fight "Something was wrong with Serra, he didn't come in like I thought he would."

Anderson Silva (1-1-0, 1 ko / Coleman) vs. Michael Bisping (0-1-0 / Graves)
    Cancelled due to injury

Thiago Silva (2-1-0, 2 ko / Steel) vs. Forrest Griffin (0-1-0 / Bogey)
Fighters traded some big blows early, Griffin was a little gun shy at first seeing as he was knocked out in 14 seconds the first time these two fighters met. Silva had a nice reverse of a takedown but chose to let Griffin up, a minute later Forrest conected with a left foot to the jaw and it was good night sweetheart.
Griffin KO 2:51 of round 1

Chuck Liddell (1-0-0, 1 ko / Cribbs) vs. Rampage Jackson (0-1-0 / Bruce)
    Cancelled due to injury

Joe Lauzon (0-1-0 / Bondzai) vs. Nate Diaz (0-1-0 / Big Hoff)
The two fighters come out feeling each other out. There were a lot of traded blows back and forth and then Diaz came in and got caught with a huge right from J-Lau that put him to sleep.
Joe Lauzon - Winner by KO - 2:10 in the first round

Gray Maynard (1-0-0 / NYJuggs) vs. Frank Edgar (0-0-0 / Eagles)
1st rd - both fighters came out cautious. it was evident early that this was going to be a grappling match as neither fighter were great on their feet but both are strong/excellent wrestlers. pretty much a stalemate
2nd rd - maynard seemed to take the lead in the fight, controlling alot of it in side control and on the ground. but everytime he would seem to gain an advantage, egar would fight him off.
3rd rd - with maynard probably ahead on the cards, but slightly if anything, decided he needed a dominant 3rd to make sure he got the W. after more pawing on their feet, maynard shot and got edgar down...worked to mount and hurt edgar bad (grey screen) but frankie wouldn't die. tying up maynard they got back to their feet with about a min and half to go. but edgar was tired and visably hurt. maynard unleashed everything he had, throwing hooks and uppercuts. 1 connected and down went edgar with a minute to go in the fight.
Winner by KO - Grey Maynard, 4:00 in the 3rd

Josh Koschek (0-0-0 / Pryor) vs. Anthony Johnson (0-0-0 / Hot Rod)
Fight starts off with each fighter measuring their shots. Koscheck lands some kicks while Johnson works the body. "Rumble" Johnson gets Koscheck in the clinch and lands some blows to the head and body. Kos reverses then lands a couple shots and releases. Fight goes back to striking where Johnson lands a back fist and a head kick. Koscheck then catches one of Johnson's punches and goes for a takedown. "Rumble" guesses correctly and catches Koscheck in the guillotine choke. Johnson squeezes with all he's got and scores the submission victory in his debut.
Winner by Guillotine Choke at 3:37 of Round 1 - Anthony "Rumble" Johnson
