    TFC FN 5 - Summary/Recap

    TFC FIGHT NIGHT 5

    Venue: Palms Casino
    Referee: Mario Yamasaki
    Deadline: Tuesday - 6/23/09 - 6pm est

    Main Event
    Welterweight #1 contender match
Georges St. Pierre (4-1-0, 2 KO / NYJuggs) vs. Anthony Johnson (3-0-0, 1 KO / Hot Rod)

    WW #1 Contender Match
Georges St. Pierre vs. Anthony Johnson
Fight starts out with Johnson coming out aggressive landing some kicks. GSP gets Johnson on the ground and after some posturing gets into full mount. Johnson is able to get out of full mount and get back on his feet. Johnson lands some good kicks and punches before GSP attempts a takedown. Johnson counters the takedown into a guillotine choke forcing GSP to tapout.
Winner by Submission at 4:14 of Round 1
    Anthony "Rumble" Johnson

    Headline
    Middleweight Match
Anderson Silva (2-1-0, 1 KO / Coleman) vs. Nate Marquadt (2-1-0, 2 KO / Cribbs)
    Cancelled due to RROD

    Remaining Card
    - Grey Maynard (3-1-0, 2 KO / NYJuggs) vs. Hermes Franca (1-0-0, 1 KO / Blaza)

Franca continued his meteoric (ok my not meteoric) ascent through the Lightweight Division with another impressive victory. This match was a bit of a sloppy affair with both men wrestling for position both on the feet and on the mat. The first round was too close to call with both men landing big shots from the feet. In round too, Franca began to assert his BJJ, eventually catching Maynard in a Rear Naked Choke to finish the fight at 2:06 R2.
Winner by Submission (RNC) Hermes Franca.

    - Gabriel Gonzaga (2-1-0, 1 KO / Twrecks) vs. Fabricio Werdum (1-0-0, 1 KO / TexBoogie)

Gonzaga taps out due to a knee bar in around 30 seconds of the first round.
1st Round Gonzaga comes out with about 9 or 10 head and body kicks. Werdum blocks all but about 1 or 2 two of them. "They really shook him up" said Gabriel. The problem was that Gonzaga missed 2 or 3 in a row which really slowed him down. Werdum catches a kick and takes him to the mat where he Immediately goes for the Knee bar and sinks it in deep making Gonzaga tap.

    - Rampage Jackson (1-1-0, 1 KO / Bruce) vs. Deren Laboon (1-0-0, 1 KO / Sweet)

Laboon Submits Jackson with only 1:00 left in the 1st
    1st Round
Both men came out very confident, trading punches and kicks.. Laboon got in his deadly clinch and gave 8 hard knees to the ribs and Rampage blocked two deadly headkicks. Rampage decided to take this to the ground with two takedowns and a horrifying gnp. Somehow, Laboon was able to get out and takedown Rampage, then realized he was breathing heavily and went for the the knee-bar. Winner is Deren "The Samoan Nightmare" Laboonby knee-bar
After the match Joe Rogan asked Laboon a few q's
Rogan: "Great job with your head Deren, what is next for you?"
[SAMOAN ACCENT]Like I said beefor cuzin, I want Machida. My treening partners know I am ready to go tree and o for the championship cuz.[/SAMOAN ACCENT]
Rogan: Will you be upset if you are not in the #1 contender match next PPV or FN?
[SAMOAN ACCENT]I kneew more peepole have thee chance, but cuz, I kneew I am better by tree hundrad persent. Machida betterr hope he loses that title. Cuz, I am coming for you![/SAMOAN ACCENT]

    - Wanderlei Silva (3-1-0, 2 KO / Coleman) vs. Cuck Liddell (2-1-0, 2 KO / Cribbs)
    Cancelled due to RROD

    - Shogun Rua (0-2-0 / BBJ) vs. Tito Ortiz (0-3-0 / Bondzai)
    Did not happen

    - Demian Maia (0-1-0 / Pryor) vs. Ricardo Almeida (0-1-0 / SirToke)

this was a quick fight. the two men stood toe to toe for only 30 40 sec. until almedia went for the take down. soon after maia was mounted.. and after a few maia attempts to shake me off ,his cardio gave out and almedia went for and got. an arm bar at 1:39 of the first round

    - Michael Bisping (1-0-0, 1 KO / Twrecks) vs. Maximus Decimus (0-0-0 / TexBoogie)

In a great fight Maximus Decimus Meridius Destroyed Bisping 3:30 in the first round.
1st Round Bisping lands 1 or 2 slober knockers. He puts Maximus on the mat with a shot that could have knocked down an elephant. (Perfectly timed) But Maximus has seen worse, he shakes it off and the two throw some more leather in the middle of the ring. With some good counters Maximus catches a punch and throws Bisping to the mat. "He's stronger than he looks" said Bisping after the fight when we caught up with him in the ER.
He also stated "Once he got mount, I dont remember much but, I couldnt shake him off me and he was hitting me with EVERY thing he had, every single shot." When asked after the fight Maximus said, "I said I would be happy with a first round knock out, I am very happy. He is impressive, but I am a Gladiator" as he turned to the crowd and screamed. "Are you not entertained? Is this not why you came?" and left the arena. Hes not a very nice guy it seems.

    - Matt Serra (1-3-0, 0 KO / JMS) vs. Josh Koschek (1-3-0, 1 KO / Pryor)

This match started off with both men trying to play punches to the head, midway through the first round is when Matt Serra started trying to turn it into a wrestling match. Got a couple hits in on the ground but not much else. First round ended with it probably being 10-9 Koscheck. Koscheck started taking it to the ground as well at the beginning of the second round. Landing big shots into Matt Serra's face. Koscheck mounted Serra and got some real bug shots in and dazed Serra. ( Gray Screen) Serra found a way to get up but Koscheck took it back to the ground where he mounted him and landed to punches to the face to end the fight.
Conclusion: KO at 2:14 of Round 2

    - Karo Parisyan (2-3-0, 1 KO / Ryno) vs. Ben Saunders (0-1-0 / Murkya)

    Ben Saunders (0-1-0 / Murkya) KO in the 3rd (4:10) Karo Parisyan (2-3-0, 1 KO / Ryno)
A great fight that earns Ben Saunders his first win in the TFC and moves him to 1-0 as a Premier MMA Gladiator and 1-1 all time.
    Ben after the fight -
"I've got a lot of work to do, I've been playing a lot of ncaa so I kinda got off my game plan at the PPV. I want to thank my crew, Tex for coaching me up before the fight, and Parisyan for giving me a hell of a fight. PEACE EASY!!"
    1st Round
Was a pretty back and forth round, I would say Parisyan got the most of it with multiple Judo throws. Saunders was able to land a few leg kicks and get out of some tough spots on the ground.
    2nd Round
This was an even round as well until about a minute left when Saunders knocked Parisyan to the ground and was able to get into full mount. Although, there just wasn't enough time for Ben to finish the fight and Karo did a good job of hanging on until the bell.
    3rd Round
Both tired were displaying great heart as their stamina were pretty worn down. Karo tried to go to the ground game, but Saunders was able to keep to his feet and ultimately ended the fight with a head kick after Karo Parisyan missed on a right hook with :50 seconds left in the fight.
    great fight Ryno!

    - Mac Danzig (1-0-0, 1 KO / SirToke) vs. BJ Penn (0-0-0 / Ryno)

this fight show cased two warriors who stood and traded punches . danzig looked sharp out the gate, penn looked out of shape,(another fight he looked past)but danzig shocked the world as he knocked penn down with 58 sec left in round 1

    - Kenny Florian (3-2-0, 2 KO / Bogey) vs. Joe Stevenson (0-1-0 / BBJ)
    Did not happen

    - Joe Lauzon (1-4-0, 1 KO / Bondzai) vs. Tyson Griffin (0-2-0 / Bruce)
    Did not happen

    - Kimbo Slice (1-1-0, 0 KO / Bogey) vs. Andrei Arlovsi (3-2-0, 2 KO / Sweet)

Arlovski gets the ref to stop the fight with 4:00 left in the 2nd
    1st Round
Arlovski's round, no doubt. Arlovski started off with a game plan, take the fat off Kimbo. He threw powerful punches to the body, then hardcore uppercuts.. Over again, then Kombo tried to take this to the ground where Arlovski uses BJJ rarely, and is able to get this back to standing.. Arlovski reverse's a through and gets in side mount and just starts knees and punches.
    2nd Round
Arlovski and Kimbo came out knowing something, this match was over this round. Arlovski came out with the same gameplan and Kimbo started backing off. Sucked Andrei in and he landed a few punches. Arlovski came with his HEAVY right and knocked Kimbo. Kimbo was dazed and Andre just hit one more. Afterthat, Kimbo dropped. Arlovski capatilized to GnP and won via TKO
    Great Fight Bogey
    Joe Rogan
Congrats Andrei, what's next for you?
[BELURUS ACCENT] Get me mic... Haha me won finally.. I just came with right annd hite him hard. Lesnar we taking over HW. My turn to hold championship..[/BELURUS ACCENT]
