TFC - Welterweight Tournament TFC WELTERWEIGHT TOURNAMENTS (all round 1 matches will be 3 rounds and held at the Red Rock Casino venue) ROUND 1 MATCHUPS #1 seed Georges “Rush” St. Pierre (NYJuggs) vs. #8 seed Ben Saunders (cpu) Ref - Mario Yamasaki If anyone in the TFC can challenge Anderson Silva for best P4P in the world, it’s St. Pierre. Known simply as GSP, many fight fans don’t think the Canadian has a flaw in his game. Saunders has some solid BJJ skills, but this should be nothing more than a tuneup for #4 seed Matt Hughes (Sweetness) vs. #5 seed Karo “The Heat” Parisyan (Ryno) Ref - Herb Dean For years, Hughes was definitely the best fighter in the world. A From 2001 to 2006, he lost only 1 fightand later avenged that defeat going a sick 18-1 over that span. But father time seems to have caught up to the world class wrestler. Parisyan is a world champion Judo champion. He could probably take Brock Lesnar down if they fought. Both men want this fight on the ground. The question is, who will wind up on top in dominant position. Whoever wins that battle should win the fight. #2 seed Diego “Nightmare” Sanchez (Shaun) vs. #7 seed Jon Fitch (cpu) Ref - Steve Mazzagati Diego can beat you any number of ways. He can knock you out. He can pound you into a bloody mess. Or he can get you in a submission and take a limb home with him. But he’s 0-1 lifetime against Fitch. Losing a controversial 2007 split decision in a #1 contender fight. Sanchez is looking to not only avenge that loss, but to be the guy who knocks GSP from the Welterweight throne. #3 seed Thiago “Pitbull” Alves (Blaza) vs. #6 seed Marcus Davis (cpu) Ref - Mario Yamasaki Alves has won his last 7 fights in a row. His Muay Thai skills might be among the best in the division and he has a viscous mean streak in him. Expect the Pitbull to not only win this opening round matchup, but to punish Davis along the way.
