    The 2012 recruits thread

This is to talk about your brand new, bright eyed freshmen that you just signed and the new kids that you're going to recruit.

The first thing I'll say is that I picked the wrong damned year to need to sign some WRs. The fastest one in the country only runs a 4.42.

I'm sure we'll all figure out who he is and go after him, but there's 1 guy who stands head and shoulders above everyone else at his position in 1 regard. He only has 3 users on his list now, but I bet a lot of us will try to crack his top 10.

    Michigan's latest recruiting class evaluation:

Overall I'm happy with my class. I only had to sign 12 guys so I only ended up with 1 3* guy and he was good.

    The good:
The diamond of the class is clearly the 5* bonus HB Lamont West. He's 82 OVR, 95 SPD, 78 BTK, 90 AGI, 91 ACC. He'll RS first (probably 90% of my guys RS their first year) as he's behind a lot of good backs, but when he plays, he'll be a freakin' beast.

I had 5 guys come in rated 81 or 82, including a T as I continue to get solid O-linemen.

    The bad:
I only had 1 guy (DE) come in fairly lowly rated (75) and that's all I really have to complain about.

I signed 2 JUCOs and they both came in as JRs. I'm done signing JUCOs.

Overall, my class is rather ho-hum. It's not great, but it's certainly not bad either.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my 2012 class, despite the fact that it was ranked in the 20's and doesn't have near the flash of last years class that included QB Devin Archie and WR Deon Spence.

Only had 10 scholarships available (11 after my FS left for the draft early), but had key needs at CB and DE. Started off the season great (so I thought) by signing DE Jahmal Rice in week 1. I thought he looked like a beast, but turned out to be a bit of a disappointment as a 78 OVR. I also liked the other DE I signed, Benson, and was glad he came in at 81.

Chose to sign CB Mike Weeks as my 5*, even though I wasn't crazy about his attributes. He came in as an 81 (about as expected), and even though the other CB I signed (McCauley) came in as an 82, Weeks will start as the Nickel back this year and McCauley will redshirt (barring injuries) due to Weeks' better tackle, press, and zone coverage ratings.

I really like the 2 recruits I signed out of Michigan. MLB Jim Brooks looks like a definite future starter (and I know Jello wanted him), and HB Chad Henderson was the surprise of the class coming in as an 82 despite being ranked as the #23 HB.

Also focused on building/keeping pipelines with 2 Ohio recruits, 2 Michigan, 3 Alabama.

CB Weeks and DE Benson will both be the first guy off the bench at their position as true freshmen, the rest of the class will likely redshirt.

I'll post mine later, but I'm just happy that I was able to cover the two needs that opened after players leaving: WR and P. I wasn't on either top 10 to begin with and was still able to get them, so at least I didn't have any walk-ons :D

I saw your punter transfer and saw that he was the starter so I thought that was really, really odd. I don't think I've ever seen that happen before.

Yep. I don't even know if he'll play at FSU, but at least he'll take up a roster spot for AMP! But I got a 4* punter in the offseason, so it's all good!

Edit: Also, has anyone had/seen a JUCO come in as a sophomore yet? Just curious, I may be going after one this season. Also, I'm just as confused for why my WR's left. I mean, I GUESS I could see Bumpus leaving, who had a 1000 Yd season and broke three school records. I'm not gonna get over this for a few games. Could have had a stellar receiving group, now they're just pretty good. :(

Pretty happy with this class of 14 overall. Apart from the three from WI, IL, and NC, everyone was from the region. The class was ranked #46 in the nation, so we broke into the top 50! Only one 3* was under 75 OVR, and five are really close two 80 OVR. Only 6 will be getting redshirts (4 OL, OLB, and FS). Todd Reid (LT), Christian Moore (P), and Brian Johnson (TE) will all be starters while Stevie Ross (CB #3), Avery Barber (WR #5, KR), and James Sims (HB #3, KR, PR) should all get significant playing time, while the other two will get some time (DT in goal line, MLB on special teams). I'm hoping Sims can get his speed up to become a great back. He's already got strength and durability, and I believe he was the fastest power back in the nation (at least the fastest with his strength).

Very impressed by Army's class, and the fact that he can afford to redshirt 80-rated freshmen. I think Army's in the mix for the BCS. Next year if not this.

It would take a miracle to get one of the guys I'm after, who could commit to another school after his visit to them this week. My visit for him is not until next week, but I'm not sure if he'll be available until then. Other than that, my recruiting is looking good. I think only a couple of my targeted recruits have offers from other users, which makes things pretty easy.

I won't go into details but one guy I'm after had a visit with another school in Wk2 and that school surged to #1 on the recruit's list...I was #2 after that surge. So, I was desperate and had to bring the kid in for a visit on a bye week. I guess he really likes Oklahoma b/c we jumped back up to #1 on his list even thought he rated it as a "B-" visit.

That 5 star safety will be a monster for years to come in Nebraska. That is the only 5 star i have a high confidence in committing to me.

Just like on the field, it's not over till it's over. A fumble inside the redzone could give you hope, just like two holding calls inside my redzone could seal the deal for me.

Besides I won't report anything because NCAA rules strictly prohibit talking about recruits until after they've made a verbal commitment to your school.

I got my first commit, a 3 star MLB. Nothing special, but adds much needed depth. I'm a little irked that after last years 9-4 record I'm had maybe 4 3 stars interested in me, and 1 four star. Signing 2 stars isn't going to help this team so I'm desperately trying to work my way up recruits boards right now, and I did manage to make it to #1 on a 5 star recruits board so far.

It's crazy to me that Michigan St. could be so far down in recruit's eyes...I mean, even if MSU had 10 years straight of losing seasons, they're still Michigan St. Ya know? To think that only one 4* is giving love is crazy. At worst, I'd expect to get a ton of 3* kids with a few 4* kids in there, esp. after a 9 win season. Odd.

I'm glad you agree. I was excited to see this years recruits, but then immediately disappointed. I have so many positions of need that my "early playing time" pitch is high for almost everyone. You would think that would attract some recruits. I'm hoping to steal some higher ranked recruits though to keep my team afloat.

In last years OD I lost a 4* awesome CB who had playing time as "most" on his interests. I was Colorado, and he would have started as a true freshman for me, I lost the guy to Texas, who only used him as a nickel CB his Junior year (OD was stopped after that season due to the release of NCAA'10).

You should be able to steal guys who want to play, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

I finished with the same record as Michigan State, and I was extremely satisfied with the number of interested recruits - several 4*'s and a lot more 3*'s. I think the difference could just be location. Mississippi's surrounding states (GA, AL, FL, TX) have a ton of talent.

What is the prestige of your two schools? If MSU is lower, then they'll have crappier recruits available.
